“A nice Riad and good base for Marrakesh”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

My wife and I stayed here for four nights in March 2013. Really friendly staff, lovely roof terrace and good rooms. Bedrooms are a little basic but if you can live without TV they are pretty good - lots of nice features. We had a great shower in our room.

The breakfast is really good and it's nice that you can have it where ever you want in the Riad. There are lots of nice quiet spaces and, if the weather's good the roof terrace is a lovely place to sit.

The main sites of Marrakesh are really easy to get to (2 mins from the main square) - the area is safe and clean even if it feels a little spooky to start with you quickly get used to it.

We booked a tour to the foothills of the Atlas Mountains through the Riad - it's more money than you'll pay if you go into town to sort it yourself but the guide that Dar El Souk hooked us up with was really great and it was worth every penny to know we were in safe hands and not being dragged around lots of shops.

So, nice place to stay in a great location with lovely staff and friendly owners - very good all round and well worth considering if you're looking for a good base to go and explore Marrakesh from.

Room Tip: the Berber room is the cheapest for a reason - having initially booked this we upgraded on arrival t...

We took the whole accommodation as there were 12 of us celebrating a birthday. The decor was very traditonal and very comfortable, all rooms decorated differently and with bathrooms.especially nice was the rooftop gazebo for per dinner drinks. The staff were very accommodating, nothing being too much trouble. We wanted to go to extra special restaurants, the recommendations were perfect and all reservations made, even providing a birthday cake. Our stay was filled with fun and laughter and I would highly recommend.

Room Tip: If you have problems with stairs the rooms are on three floors, so request the ground floor rooms.

Great experience and so much more interesting than one of the faceless big hotel chains.
Once you get used to the bustle of the Medina and the Souks the Riad is like an oasis, calm and quiet with an old world charm about the centre courtyard,
The staff were so helpful, Abdulah couldnt have tried harder to make the stay comfortable, just offering to serve up dinner at any time we got back from our walk around the Souk.
The room was delightful, and really an old world feeling to it, full of history from the furniture to the carved ceilings.
This is not a 5*, 3 restaurant experience - and all the better for it. Personal service and really friendly in the heart of the old city.

We all stayed here for 3 nights, wish it was longer, It was really a great experience. the rooms were lovely the staff very friendly and could not do enough for us. The location is excellent with easy access to every where. Just off the Main square and so quiet but very central. The terrace is fantastic and we spent a lot of time their drinking wine and enjoying the views. Madi is a super star and really looked after us very well making excellent recommendations for eating out and also if you need a good Spa she knows just the one. Could not recommend this enough. thank you for a wonderful stay and we will be back.

Room Tip: Loved them all we had 4 of the rooms and all were good

We stayed for 4 nights in Dar El Souk and it was really great experience. First class service and very, very friendly staff. Also the best Moroccan meal we had in Marrakech.
Honestly, we should skip all other restaurants we tried in Marrakech and eat in Dar El Souk only.
The location is excellent, in the heart of Medina. Close to Jemaa El Fna, souks and local hammam.
Really recommend.

Seven of us stayed in Riad Dar El Souk over the previous long weekend, and had an amazing time.
We had a meal at the Riad on the first evening, and would highly recommend it as a first encounter with Moroccan cuisine. Three courses for around £20 each, and they also have beers and wine at very reasonable prices. The food was tasty and filling.
The staff at the Riad are very accommodating and helpful. We were especially impressed by Madi, who owns the Riad, and gave us a complete rundown of the touristy things we could do, best forms of transport, etc. Very knowledgeable!
Our room (my wife and I stayed in Attarine) was simple and spacious, with a very comfortable bed. The shower was great, if a little slow to drain.
The roof terrace is wonderful in the warm sunshine, and a great place to put your feet up with a holiday read, or to have a snooze on a sun lounger.
It's only about a 5-10 minute walk from the Riad to the Jemmaa el Fnaa, and it's very comforting to know that you can escape the hustle and bustle of the busy market back at the Riad.
In summary: Highly recommended. There's no better place to stay in Marrakech, especially when the room prices are low while the quality of service is high!

(one thing - you might want to take earplugs, if you're a light sleeper like me. The Call to Prayer starts about 5.30 a.m., which is when the cats also start serenading, some dogs and I think I heard a cockerel somewhere in the neighbourhood)

Room Tip: We loved Attarine, so would recommend it. But all the rooms are lovely.

Just returned from a 4 day stay at this beautiful riad, which my good friend chose to book in its entirety for a group of us to stay to celebrate her birthday. The location is excellent, just off the main square so quiet but central - the riad can arrange for a taxi to meet you at Marrakech airport, drop you at the closest point where a porter/chariot handler will meet you and walk you up to the entrance. All at very reasonable cost, and with clear arrangements.

The style and furnishings are excellent, and very comfortable. As we stayed in February, and the nights in particular were chilly, they lit a roaring fire in the lounge and the bedrooms have heaters.

The service is just so obliging and friendly, nothing we asked for was too much trouble, and happy to give advice or recommendations on where to go or what to see, and they will arrange trips if you want to do something particular.

The food (which you can order on a day to day basis) was marvellous, Moroccan and delicious, served when and where in the riad we wanted.

All in all a fantastic experience - I had not been to Marrakech before, and very glad to have stayed here. I would certainly go back.
