“Amazing Riad in the perfect location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2012

We stayed for 5 days in May 2012, it is a beautifully decorated, peacefull place in central Marrakesh. It is 5 minutes from the central square, souks, and ATM and beureau de change. A wonderful slice of tranquility that is needed in busy Marrakesh. We were greated by Madeline who gave us all of the information and maps of the local area and recommended the best places to go. She also arranged a trip for us to the Atlas Mountains to see the Berber villages and waterfalls. The room was gorgeous and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Thank you for a lovely time, we will definately be back!

This was my second visit to Dar El Souk, I stayed for 3 nights with three friends in May. The rooms are very comfortable and traditionally furnished and very good value. We had a very nice meal on our first night which was prepared and served by the lovely staff here. We had breakfast on the roof terrace which is a little oasis of calm above the city and also a great place to sit at night with a bottle of chilled wine from the kitchen.

Madi the owner is a fantastic source of local knowledge and will recommend places to visit and book restaurants which will then give you the best tables. If I return to Marrakech which I hope I will as I've fallen in love with the place I would definitely stay here.

We stayed here for a long November weekend, and would recomend to anyone visiting Marrakech for the first time. The location could not have been better, and the knowledge of the area was really useful.

Having read the rave reviews we were a little disappointed. I think it's because it lacked the personal touch we had expected. We did see the owner Madi who is very nice for ten minutes on the first morning and some people didn't get to see her at all, however, the rest of the time it is run by staff who rather give the impression that you are disturbing them! You have to ring the bell to get in if you come back during the day and each time the staff came to the door and said they were sleeping. Compared to other riads we stayed in while in Morocco the breakfasts were just OK and the same every day - pancake, fritters or thin bread and jam. We couldn't get Wifi at all while we were there, even though we kept asking if they could reset the modem. On a positive note, Dar El Souk is lovely and peaceful in a good location in the Medina and only a short walk to the bustling and vibrant Jemma El Fnah. It is clean and tastefully decorated in true Moroccan style. It has a lovely roof terrace and serves wine at around £10 a bottle. I would definitely shop around rather than just go with the trips organised by the riad as you can get them much cheaper and steer clear of restaurant Marrakech on the square which is also recommended. It is very pricey and touristy and a complete rip off. The worst tajine we had whilst in Morocco and rude staff. Instead there is a lovely restaurant called T'ajine something just as you go onto the square (3rd on the right) which has a roof garden with panoramic views over the square, friendly staff who don't hassle and great food at half the price.

My wife and I recently spent a very happy two nights at the Dar el Souk in Marrakech, and we were over the moon with our stay. The whole place is sumptuous, and our room was beautiful and comfortable, with our own private outside area as well. Sipping chilled white wine on the roof terrace at night, overlooking the city skyline, was a sublime pleasure that I won't forget. Maddi, the owner, is friendly and welcoming and a font of useful information about the city. The staff were friendly and the whole experience was really without fault. If I were returning to Marrakech, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. I can't see any reason to look elsewhere.

Riad dar el souk is absolutely stunning, incredibly comfortable and most of all has wonderful kind and helpful staff. We took over the whole Riad with about 14 friends and stayed for 5 nights. The owner and staff were on hand all the time to help us, clean up after us, and bring us drinks at any time of the day or night. They also gave us great advice on what to see and do in Marrakech and organised everything for us so we didn't have to worry one bit about getting over-charged or lost. I would absolutely recommend this Riad to anyone, and that goes for all 14 of us!
Thank you so much for making our stay so wonderful.
