“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

Wonderful oasis in the middle heart of the city. Super relaxing, beautiful rooms, great food and very helpful, polite staff. Stayed there for two nights and didn't want to leave to go out not even for a minute!
Thanks

We visited El Fenn at the beginning of this year and had the most wonderfull time there. It was enchanting, such a lovely place to stay. The service is amazing and the ambiance is awesome. Entering your room is like stepping into fairy land. And it is not only the appearence: they have the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in!! The interior, art and design is inspiring and romantic at the same time. For me it is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. An absolut must see (and stay) whenever you visit Morocco!

Room Tip: All rooms are differently decorated and worth staying in!

Our family of 5 hired the Riad Vanessa, an off shoot of El Fenn for a week over New Year. This was an ideal set up for us. We had total privacy as a family in a four bedroom traditional Moroccan house. We had a lounge, a courtyard and a wonderful roof terrace, all to ourselves. Right in the middle of the Medina, the house was really quiet at at night and you felt at times that the big city had disappeared and that you were somewhere in the countryside. The house was only moments away from the main Riad, where we could use all the facilities.

There is an excellent design sense that permeates both properties, from the startling red interior walls and modern art inside El Fenn to the traditional woodwork that decorates the Riad Vanessa. Two real highlights for us were breakfast and service. Breakfast in the bright winter sun was on the roof garden/terrace and the spicy Moroccan eggs, croissants and hot chocolate were firm favourites. Service was excellent. As mentioned in other reviews, Adil leads the guest services team and the team were really helpful and efficient booking taxis and sorting out restaurant bookings.

To give a balanced overview, there are a few issues worth pointing out. There was never quite enough hot water for five, so showers had to be carefully planned. The rebuilding of the old house that is now Riad Vanessa, overlooked the fact that many customers are tall Dutch Germans and British. There were a number of bumped heads over the week. However this did not detract from a very successful winter break. We would love to go back!

Wonderful hotel, very special. Perfect place for couples to relax. Absolutely loved Marrakesh and staying in this hotel is the perfect way to do it. Relax on the sunny roof terrace after breakfast in the morning, then make your way to the souks (5 mins walk to Djemaa El Fna) and head back to the calm of the hotel when you've had enough. Hotel staff are great - always there when you need something but never intrusive. Full of good advice on excursions, good restaurants etc. We followed their advice on everything and it was a fantastic 4-day stay. We will definitely come back!

Room Tip: Higher floors have more privacy

100% romantic and unforgettable riad in the Medina. Adil makes it all happen, smooth, attentive and genuine, the very essence of hospitality. I wish i could have moved in and stayed forever. If you can adjust to the time, get up at 5:30 and bundle up on the roof in blankets and listen to the city wake up to the muezzin calling prayers... unearthly and beautiful.

Room Tip: make sure that there's way to keep the room warm at night besides the fireplaces - the rooms are...

Sunrise and sunset are truly the most magical times of the day here as the light changes and the muezzin calls. Great to know that you made the most of it! Thanks also for the kind words about Adil. He's delighted to know that he made your stay so pleasant and thanks for taking the time to review us.

We stayed in El Fenn during the last few days of December and the beginning of the new year. It is such a great hotel for a whole range of reasons. Firstly, the interior: beautiful The pictures on the website do not lie. it is very stylish and atmospheric. As a resident you feel very much 'at home'. The staff is very friendly and goes the extra mile to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Despite the hotel's central location it is very quiet. The roof terrace, where breakfast was served, is such a great place to unwind and soak up some December sunshine. Many thanks to everyone in El Fenn for our unforgettable experience in Marrakech.

First time in Marrakech. Wasn't sure what to expect but from the moment we walked into the hotel we were made to feel welcome, almost like an intimate house guest. The room was spectacular, the roof terrace relaxing, restaurant excellent. They recommended a wonderful guide to show us around the medina and we even managed breakfast in a balloon over the desert. All the people we met were so welcoming but gold star to Adil who takes the trouble to make everything run so smoothly so effortlessly. He even managed to convince me to try a Hamman. Rush to Marrakech and stay at the El Fenn ... One of very few places I was genuinely sad to leave and want to Rush back to.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
With 20 individually styled rooms and suites, a four-bedroom private riad, 3 swimming pools and its own hammam spa, El Fenn is a unique boutique hotel combining grandeur and historic architecture with hideaway nooks, terraces and gardens - making it the most peaceful place from which to enjoy Africa's most exotic city. Our story began with two friends on the hunt for a small riad to buy as a holiday home. It was 2002 when Vanessa Branson and Howell James walked into the almost ruined courtyard of one of Marrakech's formerly great private homes. Nearing dusk and with the sound of the muezzin's call to prayer echoing in the air, they instantly fell in love with the atmospheric house which was being sold with three smaller neighbouring homes. They soon realised that their holiday home was going to become so much more.At the time, only a handful of Marrakech's riads had been converted to small hotels and Vanessa and Howell knew they wanted to open a place offering something different – a home from home retreat that combined great food and service with the spirit of the building's past and a contemporary decorative twist. During a two-year renovation, local craftsman used traditional techniques to breathe new life into the building. Polished lime plastering was used in a rainbow of colours to create walls, baths and bed frames, original tiling was renovated and carved cedar ceilings restored. Retro furniture sourced from local flea markets was combined with one-off bespoke pieces to create a unique interior. ... more   less
