“Riad El Fenn - so cool, exotic and peaceful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2013

Riad El Fenn is wonderful with authentic Morrocan design coupled with a modern twist. It is so stylish and luxurious and an oasis of calm yet in the middle of the bustling Medina. The staff are welcoming and attentive and there are so many nooks and crannies to escape to. The real fires are inviting and eating breakfast on the roof-top terrace is a real treat. A friend recommended El Fenn to us and we couldn't have been more pleased and will be telling everyone we know about it. Hopefully we will return to Marrakech soon and there is no doubt we will choose El Fenn as the best place to stay.

Riad El Fenn is full of positivity. The colourful interiors have inspired my next project, the cheery smiles and attitude from the staff made me feel instantly at home and the food was delicious.
The luxurious charm was balance by simple delights and a fun atmosphere created by young and old alike.

Room Tip: Each room has a unique charm, You will not be disappointed.

I stayed at El Fenn to celebrate my 40th birthday with a group 10 friends. Leaving the hectic streets and alleys of Marrakech and walking through the doors into the the Riad was magical. El Fenn is so beautiful and so incredibly calm and peaceful that it is quite hard to put into words. Every room is unique in style and there are many different areas and courtyards in which to relax. I could have easily stayed at the Riad for the whole trip without ever stepping foot outside! Each day we swam in one of the pools and then sunbathed on the rooftop terrace - it was heaven! The food was delicious - we chose to eat on the roof terrace as it was so nice to be in the sun, but next time I'd love to try the restaurant which had the most incredible decor and lighting. I'd like to say a big thank you to all the staff who were lovely and couldn't do enough to help. I would definitely recommend El Fenn to anyone looking for a special break - it was a pretty short flight from Gatwick and we were in Marrakech by lunchtime drinking wine in the sun on the roof terrace - heaven! Thank you El Fenn I can't wait to come back!

Room Tip: Take a lucky dip - they are all beautiful!

We're so pleased that your birthday went so well and thank you for your kind words. It was a pleasure to host your group here and ensure that your birthday was all you'd hoped for. As you say, it really is incredible that you can be sitting in the sunshine looking at the Atlas Mountains within four hours of leaving the UK isn't it?! Hope to see you again.

We were taken to Riad El Fenn for our friends' anniversary celebration. Having never visited Marrakech before we didn't know what to expect. Behind the anonymous walled facade down an alley it opened up into a treasure trove of charm, colour calm and creativity. Interior designed to a high specification every room is different and individual. We stayed in room 14 which was one of the larger, high celinged more stunning rooms on the ground floor with a candlelit metal freestanding bath in the bedroom itself. aThere was also a huge shower room with a shower large enough for two and anti room with a desk and day bed. Brilliant food and wonderful staff. When i unwrapped one of my purchases back in London and found that a part was missing Megan speedily sorted it out and saw that it got to me safely.
I didn't use the spa or fitness centre so i can't comment and it was great value for us as we were treated!
A 5 star jewel in the heart of Marrakech!

Thanks so much for taking the time to review us and it's great to know that you enjoyed your first trip to Marrakech so much. We know that guests can find the medina a little disorientating with its tiny streets packed full of life. But that's all part of the wonderful experience that is Marrakech! May your visit here be the start of many.

We stayed at El Fenn to celebrate a 30th wedding anniversary so our family and friends took over the whole "hotel". The inverted commas are there for a purpose because this is not like any other place I have stayed in having travelled to 40 odd countries in 55 years. The location, architecture, open space, pools, food, staff, hamam, massage and just about everything about it was beyond wonderful.

Room Tip: We stayed in 22 but each one is special

I cannot stop thinking and talking about the weekend i spent here. It was one of the most unbelievable places I have EVER stayed in, and i am widely travelled. Each room is decorated in an individual style and each one is perfect in its own way. I had a wonderful room on a quiet courtyard but others overlook pools or ponds. You can dine on the roof or in the dining room and tea is served in the verdant courtyard. The best bit is that this serene and peaceful place is a 5 minute walk from main mosque and souk - so taxis not necessary. The staff are very helpful and I would heartily recommend it to anyone. I urge you to go !

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking a pool Amazing suites available too

Thanks for recommending us so highly and taking the time to review. We aim to provide a peaceful retreat from the bustle of the medina and guests often enjoy the fact that we're so close to the square and souks which means they can pop back and forth. Great that you enjoyed your stay so much.

I couldn't recomend it enough and would go back again and again. Beautiful interior, wonderful food and perfect location. My husband and I spent an amazing weekend celebrating friends anniversary, and the riad couldnt do enough to make everything run effortlessly and fun.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
With 20 individually styled rooms and suites, a four-bedroom private riad, 3 swimming pools and its own hammam spa, El Fenn is a unique boutique hotel combining grandeur and historic architecture with hideaway nooks, terraces and gardens - making it the most peaceful place from which to enjoy Africa's most exotic city. Our story began with two friends on the hunt for a small riad to buy as a holiday home. It was 2002 when Vanessa Branson and Howell James walked into the almost ruined courtyard of one of Marrakech's formerly great private homes. Nearing dusk and with the sound of the muezzin's call to prayer echoing in the air, they instantly fell in love with the atmospheric house which was being sold with three smaller neighbouring homes. They soon realised that their holiday home was going to become so much more.At the time, only a handful of Marrakech's riads had been converted to small hotels and Vanessa and Howell knew they wanted to open a place offering something different – a home from home retreat that combined great food and service with the spirit of the building's past and a contemporary decorative twist. During a two-year renovation, local craftsman used traditional techniques to breathe new life into the building. Polished lime plastering was used in a rainbow of colours to create walls, baths and bed frames, original tiling was renovated and carved cedar ceilings restored. Retro furniture sourced from local flea markets was combined with one-off bespoke pieces to create a unique interior. ... more   less
