We came here for a weekend and had the most amazing time. The riad was pretty quiet - we barely saw another guest all weekend. We were given a beautiful suite including a magnificant bathroom with a bath made for 2! My husband was somewhat peturbed that there was no TV but there was an iPod docking station in the room. Lovely little touches like no phone so you press a buzzer to call for service; every morning a tray with tea and coffee is left outside your room to drink before breakfast; breakfast is served until midday so no having to get up really early.
There are lovely spa facilities and we were fortunate that all treatments were half price the weekend we were there. We both had amazing massages. There are 3 pools in the medina - a little chill but since it was 35 degrees in Marrakech when we were there it was very refreshing.
The roof terrace is amazing. Stunning views, lots of space, sun loungers, bar and dining area. We didn't actually have dinner in the riad but went up to the roof terrace to watch the sun set - very romantic!
Staff were very kind and considerate. They all spoke great English. The only slight problem we had was coming back to the riad at 4am after a night out and not being able to get an answer at the door. So if you're planning a night out just make sure that you alert the staff - and take a phone number with you so that you can call if you have any problems.
Would absolutely recommend this riad to anyone. It is stunning, in a great location, and well worth a visit.

- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- With 20 individually styled rooms and suites, a four-bedroom private riad, 3 swimming pools and its own hammam spa, El Fenn is a unique boutique hotel combining grandeur and historic architecture with hideaway nooks, terraces and gardens - making it the most peaceful place from which to enjoy Africa's most exotic city. Our story began with two friends on the hunt for a small riad to buy as a holiday home. It was 2002 when Vanessa Branson and Howell James walked into the almost ruined courtyard of one of Marrakech's formerly great private homes. Nearing dusk and with the sound of the muezzin's call to prayer echoing in the air, they instantly fell in love with the atmospheric house which was being sold with three smaller neighbouring homes. They soon realised that their holiday home was going to become so much more.At the time, only a handful of Marrakech's riads had been converted to small hotels and Vanessa and Howell knew they wanted to open a place offering something different – a home from home retreat that combined great food and service with the spirit of the building's past and a contemporary decorative twist. During a two-year renovation, local craftsman used traditional techniques to breathe new life into the building. Polished lime plastering was used in a rainbow of colours to create walls, baths and bed frames, original tiling was renovated and carved cedar ceilings restored. Retro furniture sourced from local flea markets was combined with one-off bespoke pieces to create a unique interior. ... more less
