We stayed at this hotel over Easter in 2008. When we first arrived our troubles began immediately as despite having made an internet reservation the concierge staff stated that 'they would find us another hotel' (this was after they stated they had no record of our stay, only for us to show them the evidence in the form of a confirmation print-out with res. number).
Perplexed we asked why, and were given a convoluted story that to the effect that the 'plumbing in several rooms has had problems with many rooms being flooded'. It became clear that this was suspicious as no further details were given when asked for, and we asked to speak to the manager. All the while other hapless guests were arriving and were being shunted to 'alternative hotels' (God only knows where), having bought the plumbing disaster line..
Eventually it became clear that the hotel had been overbooked, since another member of staff admitted as much to us! There was no flooding...just incompetence and a pack of lies. After about an hour of waiting for the manager, and the briefest of chats with him, he suddenly stated that 'everything was ok' and a room suddenly materialised. This was a relief, but nobody apologised for the inconvenience caused. Flustered but glad our initial ordeal was over, we arrived to our room to find the appearance basically adequate if cramped with little storage space and a bathroom without towels. The towels took numerous phonecalls and more hours of waiting to materialise. Despite these considerable stresses, the breakfast selection and spread is very good with adequate if sometimes with mechanical service, and in the day time there is a nice snack type restaurant on the ground floor, popular with trendy locals - ideal for lunch before hitting the town. On the last evening we had a lovely meal in great ambience at the main restaurant on the ground floor - one of our best meals in Marrakesh as it turned out. The location itself is a bit of a trek from the old city, but then again this is also an advantage as the hotel's modern surroundings in the more modern part of town make a nice relaxing diversion from the dusty and lethal souk alleyways beyond the old walls where the crazed motorbikes and hooting cars rule supreme...and where the wandering tourist is a merely an obstacle in their way. I wouldn't recommend this hotel simply due to the very poor impressions we gained when we first arrived, tired and simply wanting our room which we had already paid for.. But if you get past the concierge (do not believe them if they try to shunt you elsewhere!) then the place is more than bearable...
