We stayed 5 days in riad Tanine, with little time to enjoy the souk and strolling down the streets of Marrakech as we were busy planning our wedding. The French owners, Annie & Gilles, were very hospitable to their guests and were extremely welcoming.
The riad is tastefully decorated, with large and comfortable bedrooms and gorgeous bathrooms made of tadelakt. The roof top terrace is fantastic, great to have tea or breakfast.

Riad Tanine was a welcome shelter for us to head back to after our endless days of negotiations and hunting for the right place for our wedding!

The service was good. A little disappointed by breakfast (could use more of those delicious morrocan pancakes in the morning). There is a little pool/pond in the courtyard, which freshens the place but definitely not to swim (swimming pools do not go well in the Medina!).
One drawback: the riad is far from Jema El Fna Square, about 15 min walk.

Good place to stay at (i've stayed at other riads and had bad experiences also)!

We stayed at Riad Tanine in November 2005 for 6 days. Riad Tanine is wonderful and conveniently located in the Medina - about a 5 minute walk to the main square. Gille and Annie, the owners, have done a fantastic job with the restoration - the stunning courtyard with a splash pool, and tasteful decor & furnitures. There is a rooftop terrace where we had great breakfast - eggs, crepe, croissant, yogurt, juice and coffee. Our room, on the second floor (i.e., one level above the ground floor) with an ensuite bathroom, was roomy, airy, and tastefully decorated. The riad was a wonderful oasis, yet so convenient to many of the sights, such as Musee Marrakechi and the main square.
What sets apart Riad Tanine is the hospitality of Gille and Annie. From the moment we first sent our reservation query, everything has been smooth and handled with professionalism and warmth. We were picked up at the airport by Karim who took us about 50 yards from the riad. Gille and the wonderful caretaker at the riad, greeted us outside and helped us with our luggage. On our first night there they cooked us a wonderful Morrocan meal with aperitif and wine. The next day Gille went over the map of Marrakech and walked us to the main square. He even called the mobile phone company to make sure we could get the right local SIM card. During our stay Gille and Annie helped us plan our trips to Ait Benhadou and Essaouria by providing helpful tips and even calling hotels for us. When we decided to hire a car to Fez instead of taking the train, they arranged the car service for us at a very reasonable price.
We've been telling our friends about our wonderful experience at Riad Tanine. We would definitely go back to Riad Tanine when we return to Marrakech.

We were picked up from the Djemâa el Fna and went through the Souks, past the Musée de Marrakesh into a tiny alley leading up to the Riad. There was only a torch and a small plag outside to identify the huge wooden door as the entrance to the place we were staying. I cannot describe the 'wow' factor when we entered- this place was beautiful. Huge attention had been paid to restore this old building to its originial glory. There was carved marble and dark wood everywhere; the lighting was perfect and the furniture was carefully chosen. The owners are extremely friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. A bottle of champagne (bought from the duty free) was chilled on request and a table laid to celebrate our anniversary. Breakfast was served on a hide away roofterrace whenever it suited us. This is the most romantic place imaginable- a perfect hide-away from the busy and at times stressful city.

My wife and I have recently returned from a 6 day trip to Marrakech. Firstly, we used a new budget airline called Atlas Blue, who whose prices and service were really good. Our only dwonside was that flights were from London Gatwick, necessitating a connecting flight from our home town of Manchester. Instead of staying at an impersonal "western style" hotel, we opted for a "Riad" in the medina, where all the winding alleys are, filled with traditional "souks" (shops). Riads are traditional Morroccan houses, accessed by an unassuming doorway, but opening up inside to a restored 16th/17th century guest house, often surrounding a central courtyard. We chose an inexpensive Riad (about $80 pernight bed and breakfast) called Riad Tanine, run by a really nice French couple called Annie and Gilles. There were six en-suite rooms surrounding a small pool and the place was beatifully and traditionally decorated. There were three levels, pool and lounge on the ground, rooms on the second and third stories and a pleasant open air roof area where we took breakfast. Inside the Riad it is calm and peaceful and the service was friendly and efficient. Outside the Riad it is like stepping back into the middle ages. Winding streets filled with biblical looking characters. The atmosphere can be quite overwhelming for some, but, these people are hospitable and friendly. We never felt any sort of nervousness, even late at night. The main square of Marrakech, Jemaa El F'Naa was only 10 minutes stroll away, through a maze of alleys filled with old fashioned stalls, still very much original and authentic. The proprietors of Riad Tanine were wonderfully welcoming, arranging taxis, sorting out home cooked meals when required and having time to give the personal touch. Of course, being French, they ensured that drinks were available as and when required! If you want a bit of adventure, a bit of cosy traditonal environment, and don't want to spend a fortune, then I'd thoroughly recommend Riad Tanine. Feel free to contact us if you want any more information or see some of our pictures.
