“Beautiful surroundings, disappointing meal”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

The grounds are really beautiful, as is the dining area. The meal was sadly a bit disappointing. The Moroccan salads were probably the best course but the main course was sweet to the point of sickliness and very small. Despite not being overly busy, we did feel rushed as plates were trying to be taken away before we had finished. Overall it seemed over priced for the quality of feed received.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012 via mobile

It is a shame I can not give this more than 3 stars and that is only because of the excellent interior design and decors and the pool area. It has a beautiful garden, classy and authentic decoration. It has the feel of an old mansion, which it was in some distant past and certainly feels like a special place. In fact, it looks like the place where one would expect flawless service and attention to the minute detail. But sadly it is not. The staff seems to have received no training at all other than showering us with "bon soir" at every step. They spoke very poor English, but even in French had a hard time following through and executing. The rooms were large and comfortable but had no heating. In the middle of the winter you do need it. Our rooms had no numbers on them. There was no lobby to speak of, so one little desk they had did not do the job well. Shower did not exist. You had to bath yourself with a loose shower head on a hose. No curtains, so place got soaked if you were not careful. No hair drier in the room though they kept claiming we had one. Slippers provided were for midgets. No WiFi in the room, or it was very poor. I had to go out to one of the sitting areas in the middle of the complex. Not even a LAN cable or outlet. Rooms and everywhere else in the hotel, like many other places in Morocco, were very poorly lit. Oh yes, the wake up call we asked came about an hour too late. We could not find instructions on the TV use and channels and the phone. Figured how to call another room, but could not reach to reception. Though there was CNN, a luxury compared with many other places in Morocco, that was it. Breakfast was sub par; had much better ones with much better service for a lot less in other places in Morocco. Though the dining was highly regarded by many, didn't have a chance yet to try it. Pool is heated and the area was very nicely arranged. Most rooms have a private terrace, which is a very nice touch. Location was nice, near some good stores and clubs. This hotel promises to be a great place to stay one day under proper management, but I can not say it is a good value today.

After several disappointing dinners in Marrakech we fortunately dined at Dar Rhizlane. It was wonderful, starting with the softly lit path from the street, through the beautifully decorated lobby to the lush garden dinning area with rustling palms. Food was beautifully prepared and refreshingly different from that offered by other upscale restaurants.

This small luxury boutique hotel is an airy little piece of lush green paradise with a nice pool to relax in and enjoy the very hot sun. However, the air-conditioner in our friends' room did not work as well as ours did. The staff was friendly and accomodating. The bath tub didn't really accomodate a "shower" although you could rinse with the hand-held device. The gardens were well maintained and beautiful. The food was good. Good location and quiet rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for first floor if you don't like stairs. The elevator was slow and small.

Me and my fiancé spent 3 days at the Dar Rhizlane on the beggining of feb'12. The hotel has a nice location, not right in the centre but walking distance from everything, close to nice restaurants, etc. The room was ok, nothing super fancy and the down sides were the toilet was extremely small, and the bathroom only had bath with a loose shower head, but not a proper shower. So if you're a shower person or if you have lots of hair to wash like me, forget it! There was not tv or mini bar in the bedroom but at the commom area shared with another room just outside our rooms. We did have our "own" balcony but the curtains were filthy because of the pigeons(see pic). The staff spoke poor English, the pool was nice even tho was cold and we didn't really bathe on it, the breakfast was ok, same thing, every day, brought to us, I guess because it wasn't full the hotel.

At the check-out, I left a postcard stamped at the reception to be sent out but my friend never got it, so....

Hotel Class:5 star — Dar Rhizlane 5*
Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Dar Rhizlane is a palace with immense charm and holds an immense grandeur. Located in Hivernage it is located amongst lush gardens and majestic avenues where one is instilled with the feeling of peace and puffed up by the feeling of luxury. Located a little in withdrawal of the principal avenue, the imposing residence is revealed embraced with white bougainvillea creepers and large trees. Conceived in the style of a pleasing palace, this house reflects the spirit of the villas located at the south of Morocco reflecting the Moorish-Islamic style of architecture with a touch of Yemeni and Egyptian influence. One arrives in to a court garden with mosaic floors, hand crafted zellige fountains covered with a thick bed of rose petals, water lilies and imposing papyruses. The main entrance of the palace is carried out by a long corridor arched narrowly inspired by a Derb of the Medina. In the centre of the corridor hang enormous antique wrought iron lamps suspended by pompous silk strings. Four rooms lie on the side of the main hall each named after the perfumes of aromatic plants such as Musk, Sandal and Jasmine... True echo with the thousand exhaled scents, grabbed with the liking of a dawdling in the varied succession of the universes landscapes. Each room has its own theme of decoration defined by its well marked and underlined choice of specific colours, as well as a privative garden or a terrace, inspired by the spirit of the consecutive patios of the palace. Three spaces of the palace dedicate their interiors to full continuations. The left wing draws from legendary female pleasure to name each apartment with feminine grace such as Soraya, Leila... Whereas, the right wing is labelled with male first names such as Bilal, Shahine or Marwane which reveal their personalized Eastern glare. At the end of the corridor "lobby", a double living room with the broad settees strewn with pleasing cushions invites one to relaxation and drift away into the world of luxury. The large windows overlooking the rear patio of the palace reveal a green panorama of lush green gardens, a swimming pool, and the luxurious terraces covered in velvety plants. This patio ends in a broad gallery, the successive arcades, accessible by a passage conceived in the spirit from a floating bridge. The part located on the line of the building, entirely glazed, contains a second interior living room, thus proposing a place of exchange and soft idleness. In its prolongation and on the left, a terrace open on the swimming pool inviting the guests to take a dip or just coil around with a good book. The Sky Bar located just by the pool is a perfect place for a drink to refresh ones senses. In the centre of this gallery, a paved way crosses an odoriferous variegated rosary, and leads to an historic structure which was built in the early half of the 20th Century and its ground floor is devoted to the restaurant and cigar lounge of the Palace. A continuation and two rooms were arranged there in this same will of refinement and intimate comfort. The dining room proposes two distinct poles: An interior space dinatoire in tones of maroon, ochre and beige, and a vast terrace extending towards the rose garden. In the evening, the gardens are covered with golden light and bathed with moist dews. The floating reflection of wavering flames of the many lanterns and candles on the water are like sparks carried by the dance of the wind... The sight of the gardens is worth ones sight forming a very intimate and romantic ambiance. Lampions in finely engraved and studded border the alleys. The spectacle improvised by the fine north wind, plunges the house in a velvety atmosphere of unfathomed magic, where fairyhood becomes only protagonist of a roundly carried out scenario. ... more   less
