We chose to stay here because this was the one time residence of Josephine Baker.
Having staying in Marrakech regularly we were familiar with the trip from the airport to be met in the medina by riad staff. Our transfer driver from the airport met us at the arrivals gate, and took us in a beautiful new car to the edge of the ancient medina. The drive in itself was an unexpected treat, the driver took us via the royal palace to show us some of his city. We were met by a charming young man, who took our cases and led us to the riad, he was warm and friendly, and spoke superb English. We reached the riad in a few minutes, where we were stunned by the lavish beauty of the place.
We were greeted with homemade treats and delicious mint tea, and this level of pampering was indeed the theme for our stay!
The poolside seating with stunning silver pouffes and sparkling sequined carpets was fabulous, and the projections of images of Josephine Baker during her life were a great touch, bringing the lady herself into the space.
We were shown to our rooms ( one for my daughter and one for me!) both were wonderful, large en suite rooms furnished with a real eye for detail. The decor includes an array of Art Deco antiques, and many personal items which belonged to Josephine.
The care which has been taken to breathe the essence of Josephine baker into this immaculately restored home is astounding, there is even a dressing up rail of vintage clothes!
We ate I the riad twice during our stay, and the meal was plentiful and delicious.
The spa and hammam in house are a must!
One other thing which I was very impressed by was the staff, the rooms were immaculate and nothing was too much trouble.
We hope to return soon to this wonderful historical setting in our favorite city.
