“Great Location and Fabulous Service/Accommodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2014

I stayed at Hikaya with my family and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A very different experience to staying in one of the many chain hotels that we had stayed in before and much more authentic. It is an easy walk to the square and souks and although initially a bit daunting walking through the narrow streets for the first time - especially at night - it was absolutely fine. The riad looks nothing from the outside but once inside the door it is amazing and has been decorated beautifully. The beds are really comfortable and everything is very clean. John the owner is extremely helpful and tells you all the good places to visit - make sure you visit the KozyBar. The food is very good at Riad Hikaya.

The square at night takes on a completely different feel and with 4 teenage girls with you - you do get a lot of unwanted attention but mostly it is just a bit of fun as long as you are appropriately dressed. All the ladies in our group did experience one instance of inappropriate touching however so take care.

I have just spent 4 nights with my family at Riad Hiyaka and I don't think that we have ever all carried such warm feelings about a city break. The owners organised for us to be collected from the airport, and welcomed us with mint tea and a plate of Moroccan pastries. John gave us some great suggestions for places to visit, and to eat and drink and they were all spot on. We had 3 rooms and they were all beautifully decorated, comfortable and provided a peaceful haven in this bustling city. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty and we spent many happy hours on the roof terrace eating delicious meals, playing cards and taking in the sounds and smells of the city in the warm evenings. The pool provided a refreshing punctuation to a steamy day in the souks. All I can say is - don't look any further - you won't find a better palce to stay in Marrakech!

On checking Trip Advisor before booking we found 17 top reviews and after our stay we can add another. We arrived from the coast having been at a friends birthday and where immediately captivated by the attention to detail and love that John has put into creating the Riad. Throughout our stay John and his team where perfect, we felt we where guests in their home. We stayed in the ground floor room opposite the pool which initially felt a little strange but we had our privacy and the bed in particular was extremely comfortable. The food is excellent and we decided not to eat out during our three nights there. We had breakfast on the roof terrace one mornng and enjoyed the views of the snow covered Atlas mountains, a trip to visit them was arranged by John, quite an experience to stand in 2 foot deep snow and have a snowball fight ! The Riad is close to the Artisans Commercial Centre where you can find all the local crafts you want at fixed prices and without the hassle of Souk shopping.

Highly recommended

The Riad Hikaya is a wonderful oasis of calm within this wonderful but frenetic city. Beautifully decorated, with an extraordinary attention to detail, the hotel provides wonderful service and in luxury that is excellent value.
Run by Brit John, who is fluent in Arabic and French, this is a very well run establishment that anticipates your requirements before you realised that you had them! John's knowledge of the city is really useful in helping you to shape the sort of visit that suits you. He can arrange transport, visits, recommend restaurants (although eating here is pretty special too), and help you to make your visit really memorable.
Can't recommend this place highly enough.

I can't add much more to previous reviews which are spot on. As a quick read summary:
- stunning accommodation - amazing interior design, all handmade - exquisite, comfortable and clean
- perfect hosts. John is incredibly helpful, interesting and makes the visit stressless with his local knowledge. Staff are attentive but not intrusive.
- Food - enormous and delicious breakfasts. Order in the morning if you want an evening meal. Eat on the roof terrace and you will not be disappointed.
- plenty of nooks and crannies to relax in - take some books to enjoy as Marrakech can be a bit overwhelming if you don't like crowds or want to buy something!
- try a massage and/or hamam in the spa on the roof terrace - a real treat
- we took the Sharaf room - lovely little private terrace area and gorgeous design
- John makes good recommendations for restaurants although we wouldn't go back to the Grand Cafe de la Poste - nothing wrong with the food but we felt we could have been anywhere in the world and it was full of foreigners. Perhaps it was trying to be a bit slick and quite expensive by local standards. If you want a very special and authentic blow out go to Tobsil - but make a reservation.
- in summary - Hikaya is a feast for the senses - do not hesitate to book this accommodation

Room Tip: Am sure they are all amazing. We took the Sharaf which is the largest I think. Would recommend it...

We stayed at Riad Hikaya for three nights two weeks ago, what a relaxing place after the hustle & bustle of Marrakesh! We loved the larger Amal room while my daughter & friend stayed in Karma, a smaller room but still nicely appointed. When we first arrived, it was wild and crazy along the Medina, but John offered us mint tea and took time to welcome us in his gathering room wanting to know what we wanted to see and offered to help facilitate our last member who was having transportation issues which impressed us greatly. He was extremely agreeable and always helpful with this knowledge about Marrakech-, concerns & recommendations-he called for taxis and helped with every needed translation. John even wined and dined us one night even though it was later at night (the Riad food is delicious by the way). It just shows his dedication to his hospitable service along with his very friendly staff!
My daughter’s friend is living in Marrakech currently doing time in the Peace Corps and she even told us that John’s Riad was the BEST she has stayed at and would definitely go back. He acted like her adopted father while she was there as he made sure to arrange transport for her back to her Peace Corps site. He truly is the best host we could have asked for! We enjoyed ourselves immensely at his Riad and would highly going staying there without any concern. We would have fruit in our rooms and slippers at our disposal. I would recommend going to eat at the “Al Fassia Restaurant”’-this was another recommendation from John. EXCELLENT FOOD!! We are missing the beautiful Riad and food now!!

My beautiful wife and I stayed at the Riad Hikaya for three nights in April 2014.
We were meet at the airport by one Johns transport team and were at the riad within 15 minutes. Once we arrived at the riad John and his great staff welcomed us with traditional mint tea, sweet pastries and talked us through all we needed to know.
The pictures don't lie the riad is an amazing retreat hidden in the hustle and bustle of Marrakech.
Thank you to John and your great staff you made our trip
