“Five Star Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2006

We have just returned from a five day five star stay at Riad Kniza in Marrakesh. On arrival we were collected as part of the deal by a taxi and driver who delivered us to the Bab Doukkala – as you follow your luggage through the working and very chaotic souk with butchers, bakers, vegetable and mint sellers you wonder where you are being lead. Right into the alley and a door in the wall and suddenly all is calm, serenity and comfort. Nothing is too much trouble and luxury and courtesy are the by word. Shattered from a four am start we dumped our luggage and staggered onto the roof terrace where we were given a wonderful lunch – we then chilled on our loungers until our energy returned. At this point Mohamed Bouskri, the owner of the Riad, took us on a extremely informative and unmissable tour of the city – he has guided many VIPs and celebrities including former US Presidents and international movie stars including Brad Pit, Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Aniston… but his passion and love of his home city made our afternoon. On our return we were treated to a tasty Moroccan feast on the roof and an early night. A delicious breakfast and we were ready to hit the sights- a great day trip to Essaouria and lunch at the Le Chalet and Restaurant de port and then the following day we drove up to the Ourika Valley – how we managed to buy carpets we didn’t need is still a mystery. The last day an early start and the wonders of the Jardin Majorelle and then relaxing on the roof until we could face the hectic bartering in the souk. On our return it was so special to ring the bell and be ushered back into the tranquil sanity of Riad Kniza. At present they are building a swimming pool and spa – which will further enhance the charms of the Riad. Mohamed, Jamal, Samira and Hamman could not have done any more for us – our sincere thanks for a perfect holiday.

Just got back from a five night stay at the Riad Kniza. This was a fabulous experience... We stayed in the Amber Suite, which was immaculate and impeccably kept. The Riad is beautifuly decorated with great attention to detail. The serivce is oustanding and the views from the terrasse are wonderful. Every morning we were served breakfast on the terrasse, which consisted of a generous portion of fresh local breads, different jams, yoghurts, cakes and fresh OJ...coffee, mint tea and black tea were also on offer.

We had dinner and lunch on different occasions adn the food was delicious and home made.

the Riad is family run and Kamal (the son of the owner) and his family took great care of us and treated us like one of their own. I strongly recommend any stay in Marrakech to be at this peaceful riad!

We stayed at Riad Kniza for our honeymoon in April 2006 but failed to write a review due to pressures of work etc.. however, we heard from a friend there had been a negative review about stealing - WHAT??? Under the circumstances we have to comment.

FirstIy to stated that unkowingly I left my wallet, containing £700, in the dining room and had not even discovered the loss two hours later, when it was brought to our room by the waiter! It would have been very easy for the staff to conceal this fact with the time lapse involved.

Secondly - our experience at this riad, with Kamal, his father and ALL the staff was superlative. Everyone speaks fluent English and nothing is too much trouble. Cleanliness is uppermost, the place has been sympathetically refurbished and is very upmarket.

We met some great people there and formed friendships. Kamal gave us the use of his driver and car for half-a-day and we were chauffeured around the city.

Finally, we consider it an honour to have experienced the warmth, friendliness and professionalism of this place.

...this place really is as nice as everyone says it is here and photos or it's own website fail to do it justice.

I wont repeat the superlatives of others here in detail - suffice to say that if you want to stay in a traditional Morrocan Riad that has been refurbished to opulent standards (the engraved ceilings alone took some 18 joiners over 2 years to complete) then this is the place for you. The contrast between the bustling, crazy streets outside and the tranquility within is quite astonishing. If you want to be away from the Medina itself (if you can't handle it!) then places like the Palais Rhoul are very nice but you'll kick yourself for not being in the thick of the action.

While we where staying there, an advance party for a certain Mr B. Gates (yes that one) were doing a pre-inspection before the man himself is due to stop by during an impending Moroccan visit. This should only reinforce for the quality of the place for any sceptics.

The food is great on site (make sure you eat there at least once) but you are also within a ten minute stroll of some of Marrakech's finest restaurants including Dar Mohar, Dar Marjana and the Maison Arabe so you are ideally located to go off for a wander.

Service is impeccable and the only thing that would make this place better would be the pool and hammam that are currently under construction (and will take about another six months or so to complete).

We'll be back!

Having just spent 4 nights in Morocco with friends, 2 in the Atlas mountains and 2 in Marrakech, I can only rave about the wonderfully friendly service we received at Riad Kniza. It is family run and everyone speaks perfect English. The riad itself is only 3 years old and is beautifully furnished, the rooms are very comfortable, the breakfast and lunches are delicious especially if you take them on the roof terrace.
You will love it.

Booked a night here after reading great reviews on TripAdvisor but it wasn't what we had expected. The Suite was nicely decorated but very very noisy. It eventually went quiet at 1.30am only to be awakened by the air raid siren and call to prayer at 5.00am!
The shower didn't work very well (not at all the morning we left)and there was no sound on the TV (no the mute button wasn't depressed).
The evening candlelit meal on the terrace, which was recommended by several TA members, was a big disappointment. The food was tasteless and unimaginative (- where were all those spices we were promised!) and the ambiance was 3 tables very close together under a wooden and linen covered area - not romantic at all.
For dinner we recommend Le Topsil which is how it should be done - everything included beer, wine etc - amazing surroundings and service second to none for 600 per person compared with 550 at Kniza.
For just a little more money I would recommend staying at the Villa des Orangers, which is where we stayed for the remainder of our visit. It was very quiet, lunch was included and more luxurious surroundings with 2 pools.

Dear TripAdvisor readers,

We highly appreciate our guests’ comments and opinions as we are always seeking to improve our services and to make sure all our guests have the most enjoyable Moroccan experience.

It is unfortunate that the guests who wrote this review had to experience unpleasant incidents. Both the noise and the water pressure troubles were beyond our control: The guests visited Marrakech during the first days of the Month of Ramadan which is considered the holiest month in Morocco as well as in all Arab Countries and loud celebrations are very common during the first days of Ramadan. The 5:00 am air raid siren and call to the prayer signals the start of the fasting day and is played over the entire Medina of Marrakech. Most of our guests do not hear it. As for the water pressure, it was caused by the replacement of old water pipes and the entire neighbourhood had to suffer from low water pressure during two days, but everything is back to normal now. The TV sound problem was also fixed.

I was very surprised to read the comment about the food as this is the very first time I hear a negative comment about our cuisine which is considered among the best in Marrakech. Not only most our guests enjoy very much our cuisine but they also describe it as the best they have ever had in Morocco. I also invite TripAdvisor readers to visit our website and to view photos of our roof top terrace.

Yours Sincerely,
Kamal Bouskri
Director

Our seven day stay at Riad Kniza was a most enjoyable experience. From the moment we arrived at Menara Airport until the day we left the Bouskri family and staff were the perfect hosts,
arranging guided tours, trips, including superb lunch locations to the mountainsand Essouria and even restaurants in Marrakech.

Riad Kniza is a beautiful Riad in a superb location. The restoration work and attention to detail is superb and the furnishings are unique. The rooms and suites are all individual
in a style to match the period of the building - if you visit the Baddii Palace you will see some of the same craftmanship.

The whole Riad is yours to enjoy at your leisure and pace , we spent many a relaxing afternoon , in the shade, on the rooftop, after a hectic , hot morning ,in Marrakech . In the evening we would either eat at Riad Kniza or go back into Marrakech, the food at the Riad is not to be missed and the service is wonderful, and of a high standard.

Kamal is exceptional, The Geni of the Lamp, your wish is his command. He was always so helpful and happy to arrange anything we wanted to do, within minutes it was booked.

He and his father, Mohammed Bouskri, are perfect gentlemen, and their priorities are that their guests deserve the best. They are very proud of Riad Kniza and their guests are treated like family.

We shall return without a doubt, we loved Marrakech and the people.
