“Peaceful oasis in the middle of mad Marrakech”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2010

We stayed four nights at the Riad Kniza with our two children aged 11 and 8. This riad is amazingly quiet despite being close to one of rhe busy street markets in Marrakech. The staff were lovely. We ate at the Riad on two occaisons, both times having a fantastic meal on the roof terrace.

What can I say that hasn't been said before
We stayed for 5 nights over Christmas and Riad Kniza really lives up to its reputation for amazing service. It is the little thingswhich count - like asking if they had any ice cream, they didn't but they went out to the shops and bought some for my husband. We were lucky enough to stay for Christmas day and we ate our evening meal there, the food is fantastic and compared to Tobsil and Al Fassia the food was better
Highly recommended

The Riad itself and staff are great - the location is a little intimidating and made us feel a little guilty for living in such richness compared to the locals who run stalls etc, right outside your front door. We were told that is was safe at night, however we still felt a little intimidated walking home and couldnt wait to get into the secure walls of the riad when it was late. I think if you dont mind being run over by scooters or seeing chickens being killed just around the corner you will be ok - However it is the REAL Marrakech - the Medina and the Old town are what we really all want to experience - but I dont think it is for everyone that is all I would say. Dont expect to stroll around outside the hotel, you need your wits about you and a strong stomach sometimes - For example I know many of my friends who would appreciate the Riad and it's building, but perhaps not what is directly outside the door.

In general this riad is a lovely place to stay. We stayed in a room on the ground floor, which leads on to main courtyard area with the most guests coming and going. The noise was a little annoying in the mornings, the little singing birds were fine but there is a doorbell on the main door and my husband kept telling me to go get the door - just to rub it in each time!!!! You could hear the early risers chatting away with staff etc.....Also if you are staying in a downstairs room the windows lead out into this lovely courtyard, but remember to close the curtains before changing etc....it was a little open/public for a romantic break I think....but perhaps we got the short straw with the room.

The staff are very efficient and friendly and I would say that the cleaning staff do an excellent job.

The roof terrace is a lovely place to start off your day. I really enjoyed having breakfast in the sun each morning, and the staff would bring drinks to you upstairs whenever you wanted it. It is very nice and relaxing...we also enjoyed the music that came on when you were up there.

The food wasnt that great, there are so many nicer restaurants and street food to be enjoyed, as we had a dinner in our package this was a little disappointing.

In all I think it is a great place to stay 10 mins from the centre of either the medina or the new town...which by the way can be good for shopping. Be prepared for a busy hectic street outside the riad, with all kinds of smells and sights and you will not be disappointed with the riad...room was comfy and good looking, staff were helpful without being in your face.

We would stay there again, on our next trip to Morrocco we might do trip to sahara. oh and a tip with the main souks.....they ALL have the SAME stuff!!!!!! So if you can do a deal with one not really close to the main square you'll be good, 40% is enough to pay of the asking price! Dont have to treck through them all because believe me ALL the stuff is the bloody same!!!!!

Listen to the Riad's suggestions for dinner and entertainment we werent disappointed. & Portofino I think it is called, Italian restaurant across from main Mosque - is great for lunch - pizza etc, friendly staff and reasonable....when you a fed up of Moroccan every day!
ENJOY!

Based on TA reviews, my wife and adult son and I spent 5 nights at Riad Kniza over the December holidays. It was a refuge in the storm: elegant, quiet, luxurious, and service that exceeded any prior experience. The restaurant was wonderful, including a free cooking lesson prior to our evening meal. We have traveled the world for 40 years and this is one of the very best hotel/restaurant combination we have ever experienced.

I took my 85 year old mother to Morocco for a week this December and based on the positive reviews, decided on the riad Kniza. We were in the "Sultan Suite" for 3 nights, made a short trip to Fes and then returned for another two nights. Our stay at the riad was delightful in numerous respects: The clean and most beautiful aesthetics of the building (particularly the original older structure with the central courtyard), the excellent service where no wish was too much and often attended to before you could express it and the overall genuine warmth and friendliness of the staff and owners. We visited a few others on the list of top riads in town, which only confirmed we had made the right choice. Some have an arguably better location (i.e. closer to the large square), but often did not impress with their aesthetic "overload". I also enjoyed very much the very authentic and less touristic area of Bab Doukkala, where riad Kniza is located. A special thanks to Samira at the front desk/reception. She went out of her way to accomodate us and make us feel at home. She is a true asset to the riad.

We had a wonderful time at the Riad Kniza. The staff were extremely friendly and the place is absolutley beautiful. Breakfast was always a pleasure to go to, and we had dinner here on a couple of days which was nothing short of excellent!!! Although the Riad is on the pricey side it is an absolute treat!!
