“An incedible experience.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2009

We have traveled extensively and been lucky enough to stay in some of the worlds most exclusive hotels and the Royal Suite at this Riad compares with the best. The whole Riad conveys a feeling of authenticity and the extensive renovations have been carried out sympathetically and tastefully. Nothing was too much trouble for the the staff and the owner and the service was impeccable. We took dinner twice on the roof terrace and it compared more than favorably with some of the recommended and expensive restaurants in Marrakech, with the benefit of ordering the morning before to ensure that fresh produce was bought from the market and used in the chosen dish. Breakfast could be taken in any of the relaxing rooms around the courtyard, in your room or on the roof terrace and was varied and more than sufficient. The staff were happy to advise and/or organize tours both inside and outside Marrakech as well as other more mundane advice regarding changing money or shopping. Our four night stay was a wonderful introduction to Morocco and Marrakech and we would have no hesitation in recommending Riad Kniza to those more discerning travellers

Just back from 3 nights. It is a great spot to retreat to from your adventures in Morocco. Heat was high in Marrakech so I mixed it up with day trip to Essaouria (visit the woman's coop selling direct goods) and to Atlast mountains. The staff at Riad Kniza were outstanding. I had to stay 4th night in a different hotel as they originally did not have room at Kniza and I had to leave my luggage as I would be out during the day not returning until late afternoon. When I returned to "switch hotels", the staff insisted I sit and offerred me mint tea, food, water etc while I just relaxed to get organized. Then they told me if my NEW hotel would not take me to the airport, they would - no problem. Then, their staff carried my luggage to the new hotel which was only accessible by foot!. Its like staying with family.

The first thing that strikes you about the Riad is its calm coolness. Set in the middle of Marrakech, you literally step from the mannered chaos of the streets into the Riad. The tranquility in its courtyard is sublime. There is a wonderfully powerful aroma of jasmine lurking in the corners of the building. The Riad itself appears nondescript from the outside - but the same cannot be said for what it holds within. The interior is full of bright colours, ornate workmanship and decorated with the thick, heavy pillows, drapes and cushions typical of the region. The bedrooms themselves are all unique, all intriguing, and all very comfortable. The bathrooms are not quite as resplendent as the rooms but are still very much up to scratch. The food was excellent, and the meals they serve are made all the more enjoyable by the various areas in which you can eat. However, the singularly most striking feature of the Riad was the service which was quite simply outstanding. Always available, smiling and ready to please, the staff were memorably good. We would thoroughly recommend the Riad to anybody traveling in the area.

I can't imagine that there is a better place to stay in Marrakech.

This Riad is beautifully restored with the finest craftsmanship. The staff there is perfectly attentive and readily available to meet any request. We arrived on the late train from Casablanca and the hotel had a car waiting for us at the station after midnight. The guide included with the stay was amazing and gave us a great sense of the history of the city (and we are generally anti-guide). I thought it was perfect to do at the end of the 1st day so we could get a sense of the city on our own first. Breakfast, included and best enjoyed on the rooftop patio, was amazing. Fresh fruits, dreamy yogurt and delicious breads every morning gave us the energy to explore the maze of the Old Medina. Our room, Suite Loubana, was beautifully decorated and we appreciated the fresh fruit and fresh flowers that gave it a homey feel. The courtyards and salons here are places for great relaxation, including a great pool for cooling off in the hot summer time. The Riad is a 10-minute walk to the main sqaure and a $2-3 taxi ride just about anywhere outside the Old Medina or from one side to the other. Many great restaurants are close and we felt totally safe walking at any time, day or night. The food stalls on the square are not to be missed and the cheapest and best food around. The Riad is tucked away off a busy street and is like an oasis in the middle of the bustling city. We returned each day from the crowded streets and circus on the square to a great sense of calm for a restful night.

A warm, hospitable, welcoming and thoroughly enjoyable experience to stay here...like being in someone's private home and treated as an honored guest. Staff is smiling and friendly, and the accommodations are very clean and comfortable with charming Moroccan details - tired when I checked in, I awoke after a short nap in my room to enjoy the beautiful carved domed ceiling above me. (Bathroom and shower were excellent)
Dinner was superb. I would highly recommend this engaging riad to any single, couple, or family. I look forward to a return visit.

This riad is pronounced Ker-nee-zer. It is located just inside the medina and can be a bit difficult to find (2 taxi drivers really struggled but got there in the end) but don't let that put you off as it is a real oasis from the mayhem outside. However it would be a definite advantage to speak and/or understand French for directions to the riad.

The riad is beautifully decorated and very peaceful. They have several lounges which open onto courtyards on the ground floor plus a small swimming pool, sauna, steam room and treatment room. We had a hammam (45 minutes) and a massage (30 minutes) which were very relaxing and not particularly expensive.

You can take breakfast on the roof terrace, downstairs in the lounges or in your room. We always took it on the roof. The breakfasts were extremely filling and were slightly different every day i.e. porridge, scrambled eggs or fruit salad plus yoghurt, moroccan pancakes, cakes, muffins, jam & honey (the fig jam was my favourite), orange juice, tea or coffee. The freshly squeezed orange juice is so wonderful and it is free.

We had an evening meal in 1 night but you need to let them know in advance if you want to eat in. The meal will change every day according to what the cook can get in the market but we had for starters bread, and a selection of small dishes/dips such as sweetened tomatoes, spring rolls, olives, peppers, aubergines and cougette. The main course was chicken, lemon and olive tagine with dessert of orange slices sprinkled with cinnamon. All the food was delicious. My only gripe would be that the tables you sit at to eat are very low so are not the most comfortable. Also when we came in late in the evening we were also able to have drinks on the roof.

We stayed in the Qamar room on the second floor. It was decorated really nicely, had a safe and the bed was so comfortable I could have slept forever but there were things to see and do outside! There was free wi-fi which was a bit hit and miss in the room but fine in the lounges. The staff are wonderful, discreet and very helpful. Nothing is too much trouble.

We would definitely stay here again if we had the chance. Enjoy!

We spent 5 nights at Riad Kniza and were thoroughly impressed. The scent of jasmine in the courtyard was intoxicating. Everyone was extremely nice and welcoming for my partner and I and the service was excellent. My favorite meal of the entire trip was in the Riad on our last night. After a full week of touring the area we decided to relax in the gorgeous pool, hammam, and have dinner in. WOW! Great rooftop lounge area. In the evening, they will even bring up a bottle of Moroccan wine for your enjoyment.

We booked the whole trip through Boutique Travel, and, again they did an amazing job...

Pros: Beautiful room, incredible staff, outstanding food, extremeley clean
Cons: Can be noisy, but it was election time so it just made it more 'local'
