“Impeccable hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

My wife and I stayed here three weeks ago as part of a first anniversary trip. Being our first time in Marrakech (and Africa for that matter), the short walk from the Medina gate following a free transfer from the airport was awakening with the sights, sounds, and especially the pungent odors of the old city. We were surprised and delighted to find the cool, calm sanctuary that Riad Kniza is, and were greeted by warm and welcoming staff including the owner and his son who happened to be there.
For the first two nights we stayed in a senior suite. The living area and bedroom felt like a home away from home, with amazing traditional Moroccan architectural detail and wall decor, yet with the conveniences of any modern hotel (air conditioning, TV's in each room, and wi-fi). On the third night the senior suite wasn't available so they surprised us with a free upgrade to the Royal Bahia suite - the largest and most luxurious - which was an experience in itself.

Everyday the staff provided us an endless supply of free bottled water and freshly squeezed juice (much appreciated in the dry heat) and was very friendly and helpful in giving us directions and visitor advice despite our many inquiries. The riad's location near the Medina gate makes it easy to get back from any part of town by an inexpensive taxi ride. On one of the nights we ate a Moroccan dinner at the restaurant within the riad; it was delicious cuisine in a comfortable and quiet setting, unlike dining in the hustle and bustle of the old city.

Riad Kniza was one of the best accommodations we've ever stayed at anywhere. Though not the cheapest, there's not much more you can ask for from an intimate, beautiful hotel in a great location with incredible service. A memorable experience, our only regret was not being able to stay longer. On the last day after my wife asked about the local green tea that they serve, the staff sent us off with a gift of tea leaves - that we look forward to trying back at home.

Step through the door of Riad Kniza and you immediately leave behind the hustle, noise and "interesting" aromas of the streets of Marrakech. The change to absolute tranquility and peace is immediate. We stayed for 2 nights and couldn't have asked for a more pleasant stay. We had 3 rooms each of which was very comfortable, had plenty of space, was well equipped and very tastefully decorated. The food was delicious - breakfast was plentiful, lunch was light and tasty, dinner was a tour through the several examples of Moroccan cooking (and very plentiful). And finally the staff were amazingling professional, approachable and welcoming. An example to any hotelier.

Situated almost equidistant between the central souks of the Medina and the European quarter just outside the Medina walls, it was a joy to retreat back to our riad from the heat and bustle of sight seeing and shopping / haggling to know that we would be well looked after. I kept wondering whether there was anything I would change about the riad - there wasn't anything that I think of. For us, it hit the spot.

We came to Marrakesh for a short break and spent 4 nights the riad. We did know what to expect but we could not have imagined a more perfect place to be. The riad is tastefully decorated and beautifully restored. It is very imaginatively laid out despite potential constraints that come with the historical architecture. There is a swimming pool tucked off one court yard and lots of salons around the courtyards for a quiet place to sit or read. There are also two roof top gardens with deck chairs and tables set up for meals or drinks. We were informed that meals could be taken at any of these places or in your room. We learned during our stay that this was the proprietor's family home for many generations. Indeed we were made to feel more as house guests than paying guests. The service was attentive without being intrusive. Beside being very helpful with planning our days, recommending places to visit or to eat, providing directions, it was the little gestures like being offered a cold drink after an afternoon's outing in the shearing sun or putting us in another guest room so that we can go for a swim on our last day after we have checked out but came back from lunch looking like we ran the London marathon thar really made the difference.

We also ended up having most of dinners there after our dining there our first evening. We sampled some well known places during our visit and ended up coming back to the riad because the food and services were hard to beat. They also arranged a cooking class from their chef Amina complete with a trip to do the shopping in the neighbouring markets which gave us an even better appreciation of Morrocan cuisine.

We have been fortunate enough to stay at many different hotels in our travels and Riad Kniza is among the nicest and most gracious places that we have visited.

Room Tip: The suites are more expensive but definitely worth the extra.

i was planning on visiting morocco after a cousins wedding in spain back in 2010. while talking about it at work one of my customers recommended riad kniza so i looked it up. HOLY AMAZING! i found the perfect 4 night package, including dinner/tours/spa, for my mom and me and had everything booked and arranged before we arrived. everything about this riad is truely great. my favorite part was breakfast every morning on the rooftop terrace. i am allergic to cinnamon and they did an excellent job in providing delicious moroccan dishes. i also arranged for a cooking lesson where i learned to make the lemon chicken, bread and salad which i later ate for dinner-it was yummy so i guess i did ok! the rooms are beautiful and furnished very nice. it was a perfect room for my mom and myself to share. the staff was also great which is always a pleasant treat. riad kniza is in my top 3 favorite properties in the world!

Visited October 2012 and wrote this upon our return but forgot to post it!
I spent a lot of time researching which Riad to choose and am so very pleased we chose this one. We opted for their 4-night package which was great value (look for 'Our offers' on the website) and then stayed an extra night!
When we arrived they had arranged for a guide (Shafik) to take us on a tour of the Medina. This was the best thing that could have happened as it gave us the confidence to go out and about on our own (with our 11 year old daughter). We actually booked him for another day to visit some monuments as his knowledge was superb and we got so much more out of it than had we been on our own.
There are alleys everywhere in the Medina and it would be very easy to get lost. From Riad Kniza it was incredibly easy to get to places as there is one street which forks off left to the Souks and straight on to the Djemaa el Fna. You are also on the edge of the city walls so very easy to get taxis etc.
The staff are simply wonderful. I read the reviews saying that 'nothing is too much trouble' and it isn't. I have never experienced service quite like it. Samira and Amina on Reception are superb. They will happily arrange/suggest anything you may want to do. They booked a horse and caleche to pick us up, rather than walk to the square to get one, as we were visiting the Majorelle Gardens (and it was the most ornate of all the carriages we saw whilst there!), booked all our restaurants and arranged transport if we needed it - they even sent one of the 'boys' to walk us to the restaurant on our first night as we were slightly apprehensive! On day two I needed to change some money and Samira sent someone to change it for us. On our final evening we were moving to another Suite and they transferred everything for us without having to pack, and it goes on .......
The Riad itself is just beautiful and the furnishings were stunning. We loved having breakfast on the roof top terrace and could have happily stayed up there all day! There are various seating areas (both covered and uncovered) with sunbeds too.
We ate in the Riad for 2 nights and I have to say it was, without doubt, the best food we had in the whole of our trip to Morocco (we had also spent 4 nights in the Atlas Mountains first).
The Riad has been in the same family for centuries which is very unusual in Marrakech and you sense the feeling of pride. Kamal, the director/owner's son, was there a lot of the time and was always happy to talk about his family home and I saw his father, Mohamed, there a couple of times. I thanked him for welcoming us into his beautiful home and he replied by saying "It is your home now" and that is exactly how it feels!

Room Tip: Junior Suite Johara was just stunning and on the first floor with no street noise. We moved to Seni...

We had an absolutely fabulous experience in every way at Riad Kniza, from the airport pick up to the exotic welcome with fresh juices in a magical room that instantly transported us to another world. Our suite was gorgeous (#1), and the traditional dinner in the dining room was so incredibly good we dined there every night. The staff arranged tours for us that were perfect additions to our trip, including riding camels and exploring the souks. We are already planning our return trip - it was the best stop on a 7 country tour!

Room Tip: We highly recommend suite #1, if your budget allow! Magnificent!

Some suspicious travelers have a growing theory that ratings can be engineered to make some properties look way better than they are by playing the ratings game. I occasionally count myself in that camp. Hotel Kniza dispels that notion as it is the real deal deserving of their lofty ratings ie a very nice property with world class service. It should be the choice when in Marrakech medina. First off, they include driver pick up on your arrival and an orientation walking tour with an English speaking guide. For the uninitiated into crazy (and crazy fun) Marrakech, this is great as it immediately makes your trip more settling. Secondly, the property is really nice with well appointed suites, a roof top terrace and a courtyard pool. But it is the service that sets it apart. Ex: show up at 7:30am where not only were our rooms ready but they serve an excellent breakfast on the spot Ex: my daughter misplaces purse somewhere in property…no problem as an all hands on deck entourage turns it up in our kids rooms hiding under an overturned blanket. Ex: wife breaks sandal walking on the cobble streets…no problem as a bell hop takes it to a local cobbler where it is fixed within 30 minutes (and refused to take payment, much less a tip). Go here as they don’t make them like this anymore.
