“Treated us like Queens!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2011

We stayed three nights and really enjoyed both the riad itself, the wonderful people that work here, the location and everything else about this Riad. Very comfortable and so beautiful too! You can easily walk to Jamaa el Fna the famous square.

Even though I was traveling with a girlfriend I cannot wait to return with that someone special. The quiet elegance of this riad was a true refuge from the sometimes overwhelming intensity of the medina. Our host, Mohammed, went above and beyond to make our stay extraordinary. My friend become quite ill during the night (nothint to do with the hotel, BTW) and Mohammed arrived first thing in the morning to our suite with medicine. They say there is no place like home - they - have obviously never stayed here

We stayed in Riad Kniza four days an every day was a treat. The staff is simply the best and being good hosts seems to be a natural habit. The Riad is in the old Medina but the new city is also within walking distance. The interior and decorations, paintings and antiques in Riad Kniza are top notch and it is worth to take your time to explore this. The hammam and massage are also an experience you should not mis. Both breakfast and diner are excellent.
The roof terrace is nicely decorated and a great place to relax with some mint tea and enjoy the view of the snow covered tops of the High Atlas Mountains. We will absolutely come back with our children to this great place!

Our stay was wonderful. The location is perfect - a 15 minute walk to Djemaa el Fna and a 2 minute walk to one of the gates/entrances to the medina, making it easy to get around. The public spaces were charming and well designed; the pool was a true gem and a great place to relax after a long day of walking around. The rooftop spaces were also a welcome bonus, so we were able to look at the medina rooftops and read while enjoying a beverage. The staff was wonderful; very friendly and helpful. Our suite was impeccably appointed, although a bit on the stuffy side. The part of the suite that struck me as odd was our bathroom. A look at our suite and the word "luxurious" came to mind - beautifully appointed with a chandelier and gilded touches. The bathroom, though, was just like any bathroom in any mediocre chain hotel in the world. nothing at all special or unique about it. even the bath products were mediocre and did not even include anything except shampoo, conditioner, and soap (no Q-tips, no cotton balls, no sewing kit, nothing else at all). This is admittedly a minor shortcoming, but for a hotel that costs as much as it does and advertises its use of antiques as much as it does, the bathroom did not fit with the rest of the decor.

If you travel to Marrakech you need to stay in the medina or old city. It looks and feels as it did hundreds of years ago. If you stay in the medina I would highly recommend Riad Kniza. It is absolute luxury with old war charm. It's like staying at a rich uncles traditional morrocan home. They bend over to accommodate and welcome you. If you want breakfast (which is included and fabulous) at 9am it is and the next day at 12 noon, no problem. You can be served in your room by the pool or any of the other common room in the riad. In a city like Marrakech you need to be wary of what you eat and your safety and the Riad Kniza gives you that in a luxurious royal setting. It is decorated in a very luxurios but traditional morrocan style. In fact a lot of the antiques are available for purchase since the owner owns a large antique shop albeit at a hefty price. My husband who became fell in love with morrocan furniture because of our stay here. This is the place that many celebs stay when in marrakech. This riad was the home of the owners Wealthy ancestors and now gives you the sense that you have be welcomed in to there home. The owner who happens to be an affluent man in Marrakech and the go to person for celbs visiting the area is usually around and very open to making you feel comfortable. It is in the heart of the medina and close to the main souk/square which is a world heritage organization site. If you do go ask them for there recommendation for a traditional
morrocan meal with belly dancing. I can't remember the name but it was divine. I am an avid traveler who has been all over the world and Marrakech is a must as is the riad kniza.

We stayed at Riad Kniza for a week which, on reflection, was four days too long. There is no doubt that the staff are excellent. They are informative, know when to chat and when to remain discreetly in the background, they fall over backwards to make your stay as good as possible, and are simply delightful people. If you want breakfast at 11 o'clock, no problem; in your room, no problem; on the roof terrace, no problem.
The building decoration, fixtures and fittings are also first rate and some of the antiques are simply wonderful. The food too is excellent but this is where the three days rather than longer begins to come into play. The dinner menu has three main course options and doesn't appear to change. Eating out offered much better selections. Don't let that put you off eating in, it is really good food (lamb tajine recommended), just a very limited menu. The breakfast is excellent and it starts with an egg either fried, omelette or hard boiled, in what seemed to be regular rotation. The only addition to the set breakfast was that on two days we were also given a fresh fruit salad, and delicious it was too. Knowing what I know now, I would have asked for this every day and I'm sure it would have been provided. It would just have been nice to have had such an option explained at the beginning. Tea, coffee, orange juice etc are available anytime, afternoon tea came with delicious little pastries and I think only alcohol and evening meals are not included in the room rate.
The pool is probably rarely used from Oct to May, the water is absolutely icy. If you do venture in (nobody went beyond groin level whilst we were there!) the immediate surround provides good grip but beware wet feet on the marble beyond, lethally slippery!
I suppose the key questions are, would I stay there again and would I recommend it? Personally, whilst I absolutely loved most elements of Riad Kniza, I think better value can be found elsewhere and I would especially have liked a useable pool. Would I recommend it? On the understanding that it is a very expensive B&B and it is not quite as perfect as some reports might indicate then yes, a strong recommendation for a short stay.

Room Tip: The cheaper rooms on the ground floor (at £200 per night) are subject to slight noise from other gue...

Dear TripAdvisor Readers,

First, I would like to thank our guests for their support and constructive feedback, which is always welcome as we are continually striving to improve the quality of our service and the experience we provide at Riad Kniza.

My reply to this review is not to contradict the facts as described by our former guest, but simply to add few comments, particularly about the tittle of the review, which might sound, wrongly, as a negative critic to many readers. Indeed, there is absolutely nothing wrong with an establishment or a business relying on its reputation as long as it lives up to that reputation. To put it in few words, the reputation of Riad Kniza is of a beautiful luxury authentic boutique hotel with a great location, great cuisine, and above all impeccable service. I’m glad that the guest who wrote this review fully confirms our reputation:

For the service the reviewer writes, among other praises “There is no doubt that the staff are excellent. They are informative, know when to chat and when to remain discreetly in the background, they fall over backwards to make your stay as good as possible, and are simply delightful people.”

For the hotel itself, the reviewer writes: “The building decoration, fixtures and fittings are also first rate and some of the antiques are simply wonderful.”

For our location and cleanness, the reviewer gives us 5 out of 5 ratings.

For our cuisine, our former guest writes: “The food too is excellent”.
While it is true that we do not offer as a great variety of dishes as other restaurants in Marrakech, our cuisine remains one of the best in town and many celebrities and connoisseurs come to Riad Kniza for an authentic Moroccan culinary experience. Bill Gates, Tom Cruise, Brad Pit and David Rockefeller Jr are among our patrons’ list. Actually our limited choice of menu comes from the fact that nothing our guests are served is pre-prepared and stored in the freezer, but rather cooked freshly from scratch, from the best and freshest available ingredients depending on the season, just before it is served.

As for our room rates, we do not claim to be a budget or a cheap accommodation, but our rates remain very reasonable and a truly great value for what we offer to our guests. You can always find less expensive Riads in Marrakech, but do not expect the refined abundance of museum quality artwork, antiques, textiles and furniture, nor the quality of service you would find at Riad Kniza.

Sincerely,
Kamal Bouskri

We stayed here after our wedding. What an excellent honeymoon location! We were treated like royalty with complimentary drinks whenever we asked. The staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. They were professional and organized guides, taxis and an in house cooking class. The food was authentic and Breyer than any food we tasted during our trip. The hotel was quiet and we felt like we were the only guests there. We couldn't recommend this Rhiad highly enough
