“Fabulous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2006

From the minute we stepped into the Riad, we were greeted and rpesented with food options, which is ideal after having an unexpected flight delay in Casablanca. The staff was more than gracious attending to every need. All meals can be served at your whim. After returning from a day touring, the staff immediately had ice cold water sent to us and snacks. The rooms are elaborate, most containing a 2nd level. The bathrooms are fantastic with an extra large shower complete with a full array of soaps/shampoos. The location is close to the heart of the main souks (approx. 10min walk) . Make sure you ask the staff to guide you to it the first time, so you won't get lost. Also, the staff is more than happy to find guides, make restaurant reservations, and recommend things to do.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2005

The experience we had during a four night stay at the Riad Farnatchi was simply one of the best we have had at any luxury property in the world.

Why should you stay there:

1. Service, service, service. The staff, led by Canadian Lynn Perez, and working as a team, deliver an end to end experience that can be as enveloping or subtle as you want. There are only 5 rooms, and the ratio of staff to guests is very high. Want dinner in your room ? No problem. Not only will you get the meal, but your room will be reconfigured (including fireplace, candles and special tables) so that you forget you haven't left the riad. Need to get to the Gueliz for dinner at night ? They'll book a driver with instructions to wait and pickup after - without you having to ask. This was simply the best service we have ever had, including our experience at very good Japanese ryokans and other luxury hotels renowned for service. It allowed us to relax and enjoy our trip without thinking about logistics.

2. Decor is wonderful. Ok, Marrakech is swimming in to die for orientalist decor, but Jonathan Wix has done a tremendous job in creating five different rooms with a blend of Marrakchi style and contemporary design. The pool is beautiful (and yes, you can swim in it). Oh, and the inclusion of Bose Sound Docks in the rooms is a masterful, thoughtful touch - and reflects how closely the Riad pays attention to its guests' preferences. What a great idea.

3. Location is fascinating. You will likely tire of the medina after a few days and flee to the Palmeraie, but to get a sense of how the medina works, you have to stay in it and walk around. Farnatchi even arranges an orientation for you on your first day with a local guide. The riad is close to the souks and the Jemaa El F'Naa, but there are other great things in walking distance, including the Museum of Contemporary Art.

4. Did I mention the service ? I would add that we stayed in two other top "luxury" properties in Marrakech and vicinity during a ten day stay. No comparison - they felt like Hiltons after the Farnatchi. In fact, on one occasion, when we had a minor hiccup in travel plans, the concierge was so useless at one of the superluxury Marrakech kasbahs that we resorted to the Farnatchi folks in desperation, who happily sorted it out (and then followed up with phone calls).

Stay there if you get the chance. But book in advance. Word is getting around.
