For our first visit to Marrakech we don't think we could have done better than accept friends' recommendation and book three nights at Road Farnatchi. This was our first time in a Riad and I can now understand why everyone recommends a Riad in the Medina rather than a modern hotel in the new city.

Our room was a suite with a view over the rooftops of the Medina. The bathroom had one of the best showers I've ever experienced and the bed was sublimely comfortable.

The service from the friendly staff was up their with the best I have experienced. Always efficient, polite and friendly,

Th best part through was the dining experjence. To have dinner at Road Farnatchi you must order your food in the morning. This is so the chef can prepare the right ingredients and ensure that the tagine's are cooked to perfection over several hours.

The result? Wow! A sublime melt-in-the-mouth festival of spices and aromas

Breakfast (eggs-how-you-like, fruits, yogurt etc, coffee) is served to you privately in the gorgeous courtyard

RIad Farnatchi is run by Englishman James Wix. Riad Farnatchi was a family holiday home until it became a RIad hotel eight years ago.

He has done a great job of infusing the Moroccan experience with the best of British catering and hotel practices.

For anyone who is visiting a Riad for the first time access can be a bit daunting, Your driver/cab lets you off at the entrance to the Medina and you need a guide to get you to the Riad. After a long flight it can be a bit daunting dragging your luggage through a warren of narrow and crowded streets and alleys. But call ahead and the Riad will send one of their porters to meet you.

The location is excellent - just a 15-minute stroll through the hundreds of shops of the Medina to the main square of Jemaa el Fna (signposted all the way). You'll find your way around in no time.

We stayed here for 5 days in January ready to spend our time visiting the sites of Morocco, which we did, but only when we could drag ourselves away from this wonderful Riad. We felt cherished by the staff, the beauty of the place, the log fires, the canopies at tea time, the food, everything. At night we had water bottles in our beds and our jimjams were left to warm. Book everything through this hotel and you will continue to be cared for and cherished. We had a guide for the day and an amazing day out in the Atlas Mountains with a lovely guide and driver. ( dear riad, please let me have the names of these companies so I can review them as well) we used the hammam and booked a massage and it was one of the best massages I'd had. My advice is to book your excursions before you get here because otherwise you may never leave. Thank you again to everyone who made our stay unforgettable.

We are so grateful to you for writing such a glowing review, thank you! We have worked really hard to find the very best drivers, guides and experiences possible and it is so good to hear that you enjoyed your excursion. I unfortunately don't think either of the people you were with have any profiles on this site but I will be sure to pass on your high praise to them in person. You will have to come back to Marrakech to experience some more of the many different activities that we have ready for you to try. Thank you again for choosing to stay at Riad Farnatchi.

We had a wonderful three night stay in Farnatchi. Even though it was cold in Marrakech there was always a fire either in our room or downstairs and oh such excitement to find a hottie in your bed!! The staff were brilliant and really cared for us. We had dinner with them one night which was delicious, and we enjoyed their choice of wines - Moroccan! We both luved our massage - seriously good one. We will definitely return but probably when a bit warmer. They organised anything we wished to take part in and the guides we had were superb.

Room Tip: Am sure all the rooms are excellent

What a lovely review, thank you ever so much! I am particularly pleased to note how much you enjoyed your massages as we are in the process of building a Spa that will rival any other in the medina so very much hope that it will be ready for your next visit! We are always looking for new and exciting things for our guests to try in Marrakech so we will have lots of ideas for your next trip.

This riad is stellar in terms of service, facilities, location and food. Everything down to the smallest details are provided for you here and you will truly appreciate having such a beautiful respite from the chaos of the medina. The rooms are huge with fireplaces, free wifi, and Molton Brown amenities. The food here is amazing with generous portions. Enjoy your meal in your room, on the beautiful rooftop terrace or one of the living rooms by a fireplace. The building itself is exquisite and beautifully decorated. The staff will ensure that you are attended to and do so with grace and attentiveness that is not overbearing at all. The hotel provides extensive recommendations for restaurants nearby should you opt to eat elsewhere and will easily arrange travel anywhere from the airport to the Atlas Mountains. The riad is also within walking distance to a number of notable sites: Bin Yusif Madrassa, Jemma al-Fna, Koutubia Mosque and the two main palaces just outside the medina.

A word of caution: once you leave the dreamy confines of Riad Farnatchi, be prepared for aggressive hustlers, beggars and scam artists in the
medina. You will hear about the need to visit the tanneries or receive numerous offers to be shown around. Do NOT accept and simply ignore these people. There are signs pointing you to Jemma al-Fna (10-15 minute walk from the riad)and other notable landmarks so use those instead of listening to the people who are way too eager to help you around. Additionally, if you take photos of the snake charmers and musicians in the Jemma al-Fna, they will aggressively come after you demanding money, so be careful. It will be annoying but that's part of the environment in the medina. Just ignore them and you will still have
a great time.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review your stay at Riad Farnatchi, we really are hugely appreciative, especially of such a glowing report! I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us so much however was concerned that you found some of the local people in the medina to be aggressive, this is certainly not usual, the Moroccan people are extremely welcoming to tourists and normally happy to help. I very much hope that we will be able to welcome you back to Marrakech and Riad Farnatchi soon!

Everything great that has been previously written about this very special riad is true. We are well travelled and have stayed in some luxurious properties but the service and attention to detail was phenomenal. Every member of staff were exceptional in their understanding of what a guest requires. The breakfast was delicious, everything was so fresh. We had dinner twice at the riad and the second dinner outshone our previous night's meal at La Foundouk, one of Marrakech's top restaurants. We were in Suite 8 which was very comfortable especially the bed with the best pillows I have ever slept on.Fabulous Molton Brown shower gels and the most gorgeous glycerine hand soap I have ever smelt. Well done James - you and your staff made our stay in Marrakech something special and we hope to revisit sometime in the future. I just don't know how I'm going to cope with other hotels now!

This was the third time we stayed in Riad Farnatchi and it will not be the last stay.
Perfect Service. They treat you like a VIP family member.
You feel cold in moroccan winter ? You get a crackling open fire and hot water bottle in your bed...
You need help to find a good restaurant, tour guide, fashion guide, sights worth seeing, excursions or any adventure? You will get it. Just ask.
You need a excellent body treatment? Ask for Achmed, he is a world-class therapist.
This team make sure you feel good.

The rooms are all individual, in perfect style, spacy and most of them have a balcony or private roof top terrace.

this is one of our favorite places in the world. We will return again and again.

From the moment of arrival you are made to feel special, a vip even. Wending your way through medieval streets preceded by men wheeling your luggage. A secret door is reached and you are ushered into a sublime paradise. Your cares ebb away as you cross a cool marble courtyard with rippling pool and are led to a sumptuous haven, hung with heavy fabrics, cool mysterious and quiet. You are in real Morrocco and safe and sound. Everyone looks after you. The Hammam is to be recommended though culturally strange to a Westerner. To be cleansed thoroughly by a discreet and gentle young woman in an ancient tiled bathing area is amazing. The massages so professional yet you feel that he cares. Magic to return from the vibrant assault on all senses in the Souk to be cherished by this hotel's wonderful team. To hear the haunting sound calling the faithful to prayer as you await your pleasant meal on the roof terrace in a pink and gold sunset will stay with you forever. I will return.

Room Tip: The suites with roof terrace add another dimension to a marvellous experience.
