“Wonderful Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013

We chose La Sultana after looking at the reviews on Trip Advisor.

Every single good point that you read in other reviews is correct. It is a wonderful hotel, tucked away down a small street it is a seperate world of calm in the middle of the madness and mayhem that makes Marrakech so fantastic.

The hotel is beautiful, 5 seperate Riads linked together make it spectacular. The rooms are all decorated in the seperate style of the individual Riad, very well equiped and furnished. Sitting on the roof for breakfast was wonderful, looking across the Medina and towards the Atlas Mountains in the distance. The staff are great too, nothing is too much trouble. From reception to check-out, the service is top class.

We ate in the restaurant 1 night, it was without doubt the best food we had during our trip, so that is recommended!

The Sultana offers a sanctuary away from the bustle and madness of the medina. Each of the 5 linked Riads are influenced by different decor and styles. We stayed in Gazelle, a sumptuous room, all be it one of the smaller, more than adequately furnished with every amenity on hand. The staff are friendly, cheerful and cannot do enough for you. With a wonderful bright central pool area, divine rooftop looking towards the Atlas Mountains and relaxing spa on hand, La Sultana is a fabulous boutique property for those looking for a genuine and real Moroccan stay.

We did a lot of research when planning our trip to Marrakech in Sept of 2012 and La Sultana exceeded all expectations. The property itself is beautiful and secluded. All the rooms are different - we got to experience two of them during two different stays. Although you realize it's a hotel you really feel like you're staying in some pasha's private Kasbah and you are the only guest there.Whether you're having breakfast on the breathtaking rooftop or relaxing by the pool in the shade, La Sultana feels magical, luxurious, relaxing and very organic. The staff are truly fantastic and key to making your stay unforgettable. From the front desk being able to help you with absolutely anything to the spa attendants and waiters in the restaurant, everyone is the kindest person you'll ever meet. I called the hotel before our trip and Mohammed helped me plan a trip to the desert that was the most memorable and romantic thing we've ever done. We were alone in a luxury camp in the middle of the Sahara under the stars. It was absolutely magical. Mohammed also helped us book a tour guide to walk around Marrakech and was there to answer any questions, make suggestions and make sure we had everything we needed. I cannot wait to go back to marrakech and stay at the Sultana again. I would also love to check out their beach property.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms are a little more private

From the welcome to the great service an excellent base for exploring Marrakech.
Easy walk to most of the city and very convenient for the square.
The riad design means that the whole place is peaceful in contrast to the streets all around.
Food in restaurant really good - atmosphere a little staid while we were there.
Excellent stay.

I had read rave reviews about La Sultana and I am pleased to say that it was all true, All the staff were super helpful, Ghislane on reception was brilliant. such a beautiful and peaceful hotel, a mix of old riads joined together with uniquely designed rooms. I was upgraded to a suite from a junior suite and we were able to extend the room until we left.it felt like we were the only people in the hotel even though it was fairly busy. great terrace with plunge pool. This hotel made our stay in Marrakech and I will be coming back again.

We were staying at another hotel in Marrakech, and someone recommended that we go look and eat at La Sultana, what a wonderful place, we will go back and this time will stay at this hotel.

The food was easily best we eat during our trip to Morocco and can not be recommended highly enough. The service was spot on and there was a willingness for all the team to show what made this such a special place

This is a small luxury hotel, 28 rooms, in what could be an old palace. I learned that a French couple remodeled it to look like an old palace, and they did a great job with lots of authentic architectural detail. In my opinion, the building was better than the actual palace we did visit.

The hotel is built around 5 courtyards, or "riads", each with a different look. Each courtyard is shared by a few of the rooms. The rest of the hotel is decorated well also. The hotel has a small pool which was a must for my daughter.

There is a garden courtyard on top of the building which has a bar and restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Dinner is held in the main courtyard where the pool is located. They put out candles and the hotel was specially lit at night to make it seem magical. They also burned incense in the hotel to give it more atmosphere. The food was great and dinner had an Arab classical guitarist. The restaurant is separately listed in the Tripadvisor top 10 at the time of this review.

The service was also great. This is a five-star hotel and the service was exactly that. We did the spa also. The spa is beautiful. The massage was great, but my wife said the mani/pedi she received was more of an accommodation to the guests and not something they did well.

Once you leave the hotel and walk out a short alley, you enter a main shopping street in Marrakech. In 10 minutes you can walk to the "main square" which is basically the center of the medina, or old town. There is located the entrance to the "souk" or artisan shops. The main square is a local landmark and anyone on the street will point you there. They actually call it, "the main square". From the main square we visited some of the top Tripadvisor sights like the palace and madrassa. The hotel itself is in the medina and is about 15 minutes to the airport.

The only drawback for this hotel was the price. I paid about $800 for a suite, plus $100 for an extra bed for my daughter, and $20 each for breakfast. With taxes, etcetera, the price per night was over $1,000, more than my usual budget. If this is within your budget, this should not be a problem. I think the hotel was worth the money.

Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Marrakech. A word about Marrakech. It is dirty and smelly, but the people were very friendly. It's an exotic unusual place to visit and a throwback to medeval times. A great place for experienced travellers looking for an authentic place to see. The country is a former French colony, so the local speak mainly arabic and French, though most of the tourist places spoke at least limited English. The weather in November during my stay was perfect: sunny and warm.
