“Bargain basement”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2011

A cheap hotel and good value, with lovely helpful staff and cheap at twice the price. It is on a main street and opposite the bus station which has pros and cons - it's hilarious and greatly entertaining watching the goings on across the street, but unfortunately noisy despite two layers of double glazing and earplugs! We moved to the back of the hotel the next day without a problem.

Room Tip: Back of hotel, as high as possible is quietest

We were pleasently surprised with this hotel. We had a room on the top floor with a balcony overlooking the pool and petrol statio (more entertainment in the latter than any soap!) The air conditioning worked fine. The man with glasses at reception (see previous review) was very hospitable - the lady not quite so. We used it as a base and it was ideal next to a Grand Taxi depot and bus station. Easy 10 min walk to the medina and 5 minute walk to the new town. We quite enjoyed the pool as it was somewhere to relax and cool down a bit after visiting the medina - not somewhere you would probably hang out all day though. Room service was pretty good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was pretty good too with pastries, fruit juices, bread, olives, melon, eggs and pancakes as well as tea and coffee. There is a supermarket right next door for water and other supplies. Go to Acima (3 minute walk past said petrol station) for anything stronger!!

Room Tip: Ask for a 5th floor room.

this hotel was in the best location possible everything was within walking distance, and the supermarket next door was ideal for late night snacks and cold drinks. Air con was good and always worked as did the hot water and shower. staff were excellent big thanks to guy with glasses on reception very helpfull as was the guy in the bar. They were all really nice to us and nothing was ever too much trouble I would definately go again. Swimming pool a liitle small but not a big issue. This really was a great hotel I cant believe it was only 3 star.

Room Tip: For the best view on sunset and sunrise you need to be on top floor (5th floor).

Front desk looks nice, and *one* of the 3 reception people we dealt with was nice. However, the room was SO dated- smelled bad- and the "air conditioning" was the equivalent of a hot fan. We ended up opening the window instead, after waking up sweating. Someone who stayed in our room before us had shaved in the shower, and black hairs were stuck to the shower walls. We didn't touch it during our 5 day stay there, and they NEVER cleaned it! The shower was moldy as well, and the room was damp. "Closet" was in such bad form that we left clothes in our suitcases- ants on the floor, and I suspect worse...don't want to think about it. Breakfast is just bread and bread and a few pastries, and bread. Coffee too, but chunks of white float up if you put milk in it. This place is a ripoff- DO NOT STAY HERE!

I stayed in this hotel between late august and early September 2011. The hotel is on a junction of a very busy road to the front and a petrol station to the rear, so don't expect great views. But if you have to choose, ask for a room at the front, the rooms are double glazed to keep the worst of the noise out and watching the 'chaos' that is the junction could keep anyone entrained. Watching donkeys, pedestrians and all manner of vehicle crossing in all directions at once is quite entertaining. The front rooms also have a tiny balcony, enough to stand on but not really for sitting out on. Rooms at the rear have no balcony and don't seem to get much sun until very late afternoon. The air-con in the rooms and hotel generally was fully functional and refreshingly cold,
The corridors smelt of fresh paint whilst I was there and in contrast to other reviews I experienced no sewage or foul smell problems.
The location is ideal, 20mins walk to the medina and old town and 15mins walk to the new town. Both are fairly straight routes and we worked both out without the help of a map. If walking to the old town you can enter the rear of the medina as you have to walk past it anyway, and see the not so touristy bits.
The breakfast was reasonable, a bit repetitive. Usually a selection of fresh pastries and breads, some chopped vegetables, cheese sometimes some meat, and the best bit fresh made pancakes!
Staff mostly spoke good English and could help out with any issues. Quite friendly.
The pool is strangely very cold, but in good repair, clear water and clean surroundings. 15 pool loungers. Not placed in the best location, but like many city hotels it's fitted in between buildings.
The supermarket on the ground floor is not 24hr and not really very noisy anyway. Very convenient for drinks etc. There is also a bakery and it makes great cakes!
Taxi charges vary dramatically and as most tourists don't know the correct prices, here's a quick guide valid for September 2011. Airport to this hotel or vice versa 120dhms, and this does not vary by having extra people or extra luggage! 120dhms no more and they will try saying this is the price per person. It isn't!!!! Hotel to medina or vice versa 10-20dhms depending on time of dAy and how busy the roads are. Apparently it does get more expensive late at night but I didn't experience that.
All In all this hotel is average, never going to be a great hotel, but for a base to explore the city and for £20-£30 per nights it really can't be complained about.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the front, about 3rd floor plus to avoid the street noise.

I stayed at this hotel last august during ramadan. My room was fine, just used as a base really, staff polite, food rubbish !Witch brings me to my main point, was this because it was the month of ramadan ?Food was available but boy do you feel guilty eating or drinking before 8pm witch is about the time the locals can.we waited an hour for a steak sandwich at the hotel after witch we cancelled it .Alcohol can be found but you will need a tour guide to do so, cigarettes are also forbidden for the morrocans witch i found made some, not all,a little tetchy to say the least.Back to the Ryad there is a local who hangs around outside pretending to be a tour guide,DO NOT GIVE HIM THE TIME OF DAY ! PS.Boy was it hot !

I guess if you compare this hotel to other more expensive hotels it'd lose a point, but for the price we paid for this holiday it was a steal!
The hotel was nice, basic, but clean. The staff were friendly and efficient. Breakfast was included, was basic, but covered all my needed food groups (drinks and pastries).
I'd read stories on here about broken air con and cockroaches, we had no such issues. The air con worked lovely and kept the room lovely and cool in the 40 degree heat and at night. As for the bugs, I didn't see any at all.
The hotel is just outside the old city walls, about a 20 min walk from the Square, and really easy to get to it. There's a fair amount of work going on around there, and it looks a bit of a mess, but the works didn't bother us none.

I'd definitely return. For the price I doubt it can be beat!
