“Nothing there”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

same old shops as souks, people still call out and ask you to buy, less shops and a synagogue where a child tried to get money out of us. not a great looking place.
the trip advisor city guide totally point in the wrong direction. do not use it for Mellah.

“The Mellah”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

I liked the Mellah much better than the square itself as far as prices go. You can negotiate prices much better and it is better to buy your jewelry from the Mellah. Also they have more fixed prices for souvenirs. I bought a nice metal filegree bookmark with the hand of Fatima for only 20 dirhams, roughly 2 dollars. It is very pretty.

“Worth hiring a guide to see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

This old Jewish neighboorhood near the Royal Palace is simple enough to get to, but not as easy to navigate, especially if you want to try to see one of the old synagogues... they are hidden, but worth the look. The streets are more narrow and winding than elsewhere in the Medina, but Morocco has a rich history with the Jewish people from this earliest times... don't overlook it.

“Great history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

Mellah in Marrakesh might be smaller than the one in Fes, but nevertheless worth visiting. Make sure you are not there too early in the morning as they will not let you in the Synagogue (due to the morning prayers). It is an active Synagogue with Jewish ladies living still on the premises. The blue and white courtyard is in a great contrast to the red of the houses outside. It is a little hidden, so you might need someone to point you to the entrance (a little opening in the wall).

“Intriguing Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

This is the old Jewish quarter next to the Bahia Palace very near Riad Hayati. You see Hebrew writing on many of the old buildings and there is a little spice market and tinkers' square that is fun to explore.
