“Good value and central”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2011

We moved to the Tachfine Hotel after staying a few days in a rather poor hotel nearby. We negotiated a small discount with the lady manager as we were a group of 10 staying for about 10 days. The staff were courteous and helpful and the rooms were clean and tidy and we were given a floor to ourselves. We ate in the restaurant a few times and the food was good and reasonably priced. The hotel's location is excellent with plenty of restaurants and cafes and the train station nearby and its only about a 20 minute stroll to the old walled city and market. The only real negative point is the breakfast, which was the same everyday and very basic, a simple thing to fix by offering a choice such as omelettes or cereals. We handed over our passports, but were not asked to register, which seemed a bit odd. The roof bar is smoke filled and dingy, but we did not spend any time in it. The Tachfine is simple and good value for money and we will use it again if we visit Marrakech in the future.

“Everyones A Hustler”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2011

Hotel standard is as in other reviews. A dated hotel on its last legs. There are some funny practices going on here.

Booked over the internet the night before. In afternoon tried to check in. Not on list, but we provided an accommodation voucher that we printed from an internet cafe. Took our passports off us (couple), (guide book states that it is a requirement to have passports on person at all times as a legal requirement whilst in Morocco), but would not let us fill in the registration documents. Given keys to room -> Room not serviced, bed not made. Given keys to room 2 -> Room not serviced, bed not made. Given keys to room 3 -> Room serviced, air conditioning didn't work. Went out of hotel. On return another air conditioning control provided that worked. Next day went by train to Casablanca, and got passports back in case we had to stay in another hotel.

On return late saw lots of people waiting for lift to Terrace, Next day tried to go to Terrace in morning but told closed. That evening 7ish went up to Terrace by direct lift. There were a few single women drinking alcohol alone at tables. Couple of guys with 2 of the women. Later after dinner, a very hard young lady went up in lift with high heels and very short skirt. It looked like the Terrace was very seedy.

Spoke to Receptionist about a taxi to the airport the next morning. He told us that there was a fixed price of 150 dirhams. I said that this was far too much, but he said that the fair was fixed and he would book a taxi for the next morning. I said no as the guide book states a fixed price of 50 dirhams. He phoned the room to try and get us to book with him. The next morning we walked out of the hotel and got a taxi on the street straight away. We ended up paying 100 dirham inclusive of a tip for the driver.

On checking out, there was a problem. We "owed" money as the room was not paid for. We stated it was and they had the paperwork. I showed the booking email and credit card payment on a phone. After much disagreeing, a phone call was made (to a manager?) and we were asked for tax, 1 euro a night each for our stay at the hotel. This did not happen at any other hotel booked in the same way in Morocco, So a local tax was being collected in a foreign currency, even though no tax was due. This could not be converted directly to the local currency of dirhams by the receptionist. After some arguing the receptionist waved us off reluctantly.

What would have happened if our passports were behind the reception desk?? As we had not filled in the booking forms, were we officially at the hotel, or was the hotel trying not to pay local tax by keeping us off the register???

This is a cheap hotel and worth the money, however, the underhand practices, and attempts to extract money in terms of overcharged taxis and made up tourist taxes means
DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL it is not worth the hassle.

“Not the best but ok due to location and services around the hotel.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2011

I have stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and all i can say is that this is not the best hotel i ever visited because it was no,t but on the other hand the location its perfect, not too far from the medina (30 mins walking distance) u can catch the bus no.19 from the airport and it will stop by the hotel restaurant so that was really nice it costs you 50 dirhams return on this service instead on 150dh if u take a taxi and it picks u up from the same stop en roue to the airport again when u go back home.
The hotel itself is a bit old and run down, it could do with some repairs, the room was ok but the bathroom was abit of a let down in terms of being clean, (we found hair lying around and a dirty cup) all in all it was ok as we were out most of the day and only came back at night.
We did not use the restaurant, it was always empty and it wasnt appealing at all, there are lots of restaurants around with plenty of choice to choose from.
For breakfast we went to a really nice cafe not far from the hotel, as you come off the reception, u turn left then right until u find a round about and turn left again until u find "Cafe Emirates"( really nice, clean, good food and friendly staff).
Staff at the hotel were helpfull and friendly so no problems there, i would go back and recomend it for the price and location as these were perfect.
The Medina was really amazing but please just be carefull otherwise u will be scammed into buying stuff that u think is cheap but with a bit of haggling u can get it for so much cheaper.
Most of the people there are nice but u can be hassled to give them money because you are taking pictures, just say no and walk away(that work for us).

Room Tip: 503 is good and u can avoid the noise from the trafic bellow and its close to the terrace where they...

“NOT THREE STAR!!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2011

Although NOT THREE STAR as advertised, this hotel is cheap, air conditioned and in central location but far from the main Medina area. It may have been good value for money in terms of rates - we couldn't find another hotel that would beat the cheap rate offered on booking.com, we paid €29 per night which included breakfast (not great - the same every day and very basic) but recommend paying a little extra and staying somewhere else.

Despite the nice photos, Hotel Tachfine is old, run down and in need of some renovations. It doesn't have a pool and the 'roof terrace' was closed. The 'nice Moroccan common area' was always used by hotel staff watching TV. In the breakfast room all of the plates and cutlery had a layer of dust because the windows are constantly open because it's not air-conditioned. The service was terrible. Slow, forgetful, no manners and very little English spoken, even refused to bring toilet paper when needed. And we had a mouse in our room. Don't feel pressured to take the day-trips offered by the hotel, do yourself the favor and go to the tourist information center just nearby and they will direct you. THIS HOTEL IS NOT THREE STAR and was disappointing for our first trip to Marrakesh. We won't be recommending this to anyone.

Room Tip: All rooms will have a noisy air conditioner attached.

“HOTEL TOUR SCAM”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2011 via mobile

We stayed in tachfine hotel for 8 nights and while there, agreed to do one of the hotel operated tours to the famous waterfall - after paying 350 dirhams in full before the tour, our driver on the day drove us 4 hours before dropping us off on the side of the road and
telling us it is a transport only tour, the hotel has not paid for a tour guide and we would need to pay all over again for a tour and to be walked through the track to the waterfall. Hotel offered an apology and admitted it was supposed to be a full day tour but we did not receive any money back, a discount nor an explanation for this full day "tour". Cleanliness was iffy at best, any requests take days to fullfill and
no wifi in room as promised. Won't
be staying there again!
