We had a trek in the hills around Imlil and the valleys and villages that surround it, and thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was a beautiful walk, and our guide, Mohammed, spoke excellent English, French and Arabic as well as his native Berber. After a good climb up one of the hills below Mt Toubkal we descended to a Berber house for a wonderful lunch - a lovely salad, then a vegetarian tagine (our request for vegetarian), which is a typical Berber tagine, then fruit. We more or less rolled down the next hill!
We could only spend a day in the Atlas, but the efficient transfer from our Riad in Marrakech and the way the trek was organised meant that it was a great use of time. We really enjoyed meeting our wonderful guide, speaking to him about Berber, Arabic, Moroccan and Islamic life, about his family, and about the mountains. He was a real find in our Moroccan trip. My advice is to speak to your guide as much as possible. They have a great knowledge of the area, the culture, nature, and just about anything else you could want to talk about on a trek.
A great day out.
