“3-days-stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

We have stayed 3 days in Marrakesh, and it was all perfect. The hospitality of Gilles and Dominique is excellent, they really do everything to make their guests' stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible, whether it is helping to organize a camel riding trip in the desert, have a nap in the jacuzzi on the top-roof terrace of the riad, or they go with you to buy the best tea :) The Riad is clean, lovely, the food is amazing, and the atmosphere is oriental. If I happen to return to Marrakesh, definitely Riad Abaca Badra is the place to stay, and I will recommend it to whoever would ask my advice on accommodation there.

Room Tip: We have stayed in the room downstairs, and was very comfortable. Quite enough, very clean and with a...

After one week travelling through the desert, we checked-in at this riad where we found the relax we were looking for. Gilles and Dominique are the perfect hosts, not only very helpful and professional, but also very funny. The place is really quiet and well located. Just 10 minutes far away from El Fna square. There is also a Moroccan chef who prepared a very authentic dinner for us. Simply great. I would definitely come back.

Muchas gracias por todo

I recently visited Marrakech for the first time with my father-in-law. We had such a lovely stay with Gilles and Dominique and I would recommend everyone to stay with them when they visit.
The Riad is a little difficult to find, but it is very centrally located in the Medina. We only found it by paying a local boy to take us there once our cab dropped us off. I would recommend taking up Gilles on his offer to provide a driver to pick you up and bring you there. But once there, Gilles and Dominique were wonderful hosts. They welcomed us by inviting us to sit down and offering us a cup of mint tea and Moroccan pastries. As we talked about our plans and what they recommended for us to see, they pulled out a map and showed us exactly where everything was and how to get there.
That night, we opted to have a traditional Moroccan meal prepared by their cook and served right in the courtyard. It was absolutely delicious- vegetable pastilla, tagine chicken with lemon and olive, and this desert of layered pastry, delicate sweet cream, strawberries, bananas, and nuts. It was really nice not to have to worry about where we were going to eat or how we were going to get there and we could just relax with a bottle of Moroccan red wine.
Before we went to bed at night, Gilles asked what time we wanted breakfast and whether we preferred coffee or tea. When we awoke, we went down to the courtyard to a table set up with mugs, fresh coffee, bread, homemade jam and honey, fresh squeezed orange juice, yogurt, and eggs made to order.
The Riad itself is exquisitely decorated. It was the little details that really stood out for me- rose petals on the beds when we first arrived, orange blossom shampoo, body wash, and lotion, a lounge area outside the rooms with couches and tables, and a rooftop deck with lounge chairs, towels, and straw hats provided for use. The rooms and bathrooms were large and clean.
I chose this hotel for the location and because of the great reviews. We walked across the street and got lost in the souks and then found our way to Jemaa El Fna square at night and easily walked the 15mins back. It’s a quiet, charming place in the hustle of the Medina.

Room Tip: Choose this hotel if you're looking for a bit of an authentic Moroccan experience with a lovely...

Abaca Badra was our first port of refuge in Marrakech. Gilles the proprietor could not have been more helpful. We landed at marrakech airport early evening, picked up our hire car and we where shown the way to the mosque where Gilles met us and took us to the Riad.Dominque and Gilles made us most welcome, with traditional mint tea and biscuits in the peace and quiet of the Riad.
After a most comfortable night in a beautifully traditional decorated ground floor room and a good breakfast. Gilles very kindly drove us out of the maze of the medina and central marrakech to the main road to Safi to the Riad cheval Blanc our next port of call,With out his help I don't know how long it would have taken us.This Riad will definitiley be top of our list when we return to Marrakech.

My partner and I have just spent a wonderful three nights at Riad Abaca Badra and we could not recommend this Riad00oh more highly! It was exceptional in every way! Firstly, the location was excellent, within 10 mins walking of the main square and attractions and the Riad itself was beautiful, with a lovely internal courtyard and traditional ceilings and furnishings. Our room was very spacious and extremely comfortable and the roof terrace is the perfect place to relax after a busy day exploring the city. We also had two dinners at the hotel and it was the best food that we ate in Morocco! But the best thing about this hotel is the wonderful owners, Dominique and Gilles. They are so kind and welcoming and went out of their way to help us in any way they could. Nothing was too much trouble for them! Gilles even insisted on making us breakfast at 4:30am before our early morning flight! We have stayed in many lovely hotels and guest houses around the world but we have never experienced hospitality like this!

Service:
The owners Gilles & Dominique are wonderful hosts. They were very attentive, following up on details the cleaning staff may have missed, providing natural local bath products, and doing the little extras (helped us spread out laundry drying on the roof, getting us napkins when they saw us eating on the rooftop, etc.). They went out of their way to help us find some souvenirs we were looking for. Gilles recommended some excellent, good value restaurants to help us avoid the tourist traps.

Room:
We stayed at both the small room on the ground floor and a larger one on the second floor. Both are clean and comfortable. We were shocked walking into the room & find rose petals on our bed! Similar to other riads we stayed at, the rooms open into the common atrium so it can be noisy when there are people talking outside the rooms. The rooftop is a really nice place to lounge, with a large covered tent-like soft seating area, hot tub, and some patio furniture.

Location:
The riad is located in a more residential part of the medina. Instead of being surround by souvenir shops, it was nice to walk out to local market shops. There is even a traditional hammam just down the street - my most memorable Moroccan experience It is only a short walk away from the main square and other sightseeing spots, and a short taxi ride (and not that long a walk) to the new town. The only down side is there are not as many restaurant choices at the door step, but there are lots of choices within 5-10 min walk.

Breakfast:
Breakfast was quite filling, with the usual bread, yogurt, etc. Gilles made eggs to order. On the first day, he even baked a cake for breakfast.

Overall, it was a pleasant relaxing stay, and good value.

Room Tip: Similar to most riads with traditional layout, I prefer a room on an upper floor as the ground floor...

We have just returned from Marrakech and we just cannot say enough about our wonderful Riad. Everyone comments on Gilles and Dominique's hospitality and there is nothing more to say about how wonderful hosts they are. The Riad itself, however, is also amazing. The location is perfect for exploring the souks, and just a short stroll away from Jemaa el-FNA and all the main tourist attractions. After getting lost (literally and metaphorically) the Riad's terrace is an ideal place to relax and plan your next moves. The standards of cleanliness are extremely high- something that you will appreciate more once in Marrakech. Our breakfast (served whenever it suited us) was always tasty and allowed us to taste all sorts of Moroccan pancakes. Our hosts even upgraded to the suite since they had a vacancy and greeted us with a goodbye gift. We thank them so much for everything they did, their valuable advice and welcoming smiles and hope to see them again one day.
