“A great Riad in the middle of the medina!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

We loved our stay at Riad Magellan! We stayed for 4 nights over New Year's and couldn't have asked for a better location. The Riad is beautifully decorated and our room was small, but perfect for our stay. There's a great breakfast prepared for you each day and I also recommend having dinner there. It was probably our best meal in Marrakech! Philippe, Adiele, Mohammed and all of the staff we super nice and helpful from the time we booked until the time we left! If you're looking for an enjoyable experience in Marrakech, I highly recommend choosing Riad Magellan for your stay!

We stayed at Riad Magellan for 6 nights, between Christmas and New Year. We very much enjoyed our experience at this oasis of tranquillity. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we walked through the door, as we were treated to a lovely mint tea followed by dinner prepared specially for us. The staff were exceptionally warm, courteous and helpful, as was the owner, Phillipe. They provided us with detailed information about places of interest in Marrakech, and arranged for us one-day trips to destinations further afield. We strongly recommend it.

It worked marvelously. If you ask the very helpful staff to arrange for a transfer to/from airport, a comfy jeep picks you up and drops you at the entry of the pedestrian precinct, then a trolley is arranged to plunge and wriggle your bags into narrow dark alleys of Medina Souk to reach the cosy riad. We slept gently cradled by distant chants at crack of dawn in the exquisitely decorated room. We relaxed in the courtyard, on the rooftop terrace, in the hammock or even by the fire. The welcome dinner is home cooking delight: a choice of salads nice chicken olive-lemon tajine. Local breakfast with crepes is served, bread butter, jam and honey, you just ask the staff in the kitchen for your hot drink. We highly recommend this gem, to visit the maze of colours, friendly smiles and to log off from it all for a few days, you still have wifi on the ground floor for your peace of mind. No room locks or keys, no problem, yet be prepared.

Room Tip: the Prune room on first floor overlooks the courtyard and there was a hammock across.

We stayed two nights at the Riad Magellan. We stayed in the Orange Room which is one of the smaller rooms. It was definitely small but cosy and the bed was comfortable. The sound does carry in this Riad but it did not bother us at all. The Riad is tastefully decorated and the dining room in particular is very stylish. We enjoyed a candle lit dinner with a roaring fire one evening which was very nice. The Riad is well located in the medina and an easy walk to the main square. The staff were all very friendly. We enjoyed lunch at Dar Cherifa (recommended by the staff) and a cooking class which the staff at the Riad organised for us.

Room Tip: We had the Orange room which is on the first floor and is definitely on the smaller side but it is c...

We had a lovely break in Marrakech for 5 nights the week before Christmas thanks to Riad Magellan. Being met at the airport and taken into the Medina was a very easy start to our holiday, followed by a candle-lit dinner for four of us in front of the fireplace felt like home from home - but with staff. The staff at the hotel were charming and helpful and didn't mind us hanging about in the mornings whilst we used the wifi. I recommend the day we had with a driver and walk with a Berber guide in the Atlas Mountains which Philippe organised for us.
It was heaven to go up to the roof terrace to lie in the sun under a bright blue sky, a week before Christmas.

Room Tip: The red room was very comfortable and clean, with a good bed and pillows on a mezzanine floor, but b...

We stayed 4 nights in the middle of November at Riad Magellan, and it got our visit to Marrakech off to a fantastic start. The rooms are spacious with excellent bathrooms, and the beds are very comfortable. Everyone really enjoyed relaxing on the rooftop deck after days in the maze of souks.

Philippe was an excellent host and was able to suggest a restaurant for a birthday celebration and arranged a driver for a trip to Essaouira. The location is perfect for exploring the medina and is walking part of the airport transfer (cars can’t go very far into the medina) is pretty short. Riad Magellan is at the top of my list for any future visits to Marrakech.

Room Tip: All of the rooms seem to be excellent.
