“Try to Avoid Visiting the Souk on a Friday”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2015 NEW

Friday is the Muslim holy day and many of the workshops will be closed and not as full of life as expected. Many of the shops in the Souk sell the same merchandise and much of it is unfortunately made in China, forcing the real craftsmen out if business. Try to purchase from a stall where you can actually see them creating unigue pieces.

“A must see, but DON'T get lost!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2015 NEW via mobile

A miriad of narrow streets with endless intriguing market stalls. However, if you go without a guide, it is very easy to lose sense of direction and get completely lost. It took us over an hour to find the exit from behind this walled market place. In the end, after being given wrong directions from some of the stall holders, we hailed a motorised wagon which then took us back to Medina Square. Without it, we would have gone deeper and deeper into 'Market World!' That said, we loved the experience. The true spirit and atmosphere of Marrakech.

“Just like Arkwrights.”

You name it they have it. Take a guide or you could end up anywhere. Worth the money, you'll see what you want to see and buy all the right gifts.

“Noise, noise and more noise but very interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2015 NEW

We toured the main square with all its snake charmers, jugglers, traders and food stalls with a guide who then took us through the souk. Very typical of souks throughout Middle East with hundreds of stalls selling just about everything imaginable. Very noisy as traders vie for your attention (and hopefully you money). All very friendly and bartering is truly an experience and a test of your resolve. We were told that in most cases the actual price will be around 40% of the initial asking price but getting there takes time and being prepared to walk away several times. They love bartering and are good at it so be prepared to stick to your guns. As is usual when you take a guide he will include one or two places where the proprietor is known to him. On our tour this included a carpet showroom, a carpenter's workshop, a silk scarf shop and a herbal pharmacy but all very friendly and no hard feelings if you do not buy anything. At the end of a three hour tour a glass of fresh orange for 4 Drs was most welcome.

“Lots of fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2015 NEW

See my review on the Medina -- be ready to get totally lost! But there's some fun stuff in here if you take the time to look.
