“Enthralling”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

Lots to explore -just wander through the souk. A good idea to check prices first by going to the artisan centre on the left of the entrance to Jemaa el Fnaa where government set the prices

“Another Tourist Trap”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

The merchants in the souk are very aggressive and kept harassing us for just walking past their stalls. I have been to a few souks and markets in Dubai, Singapore and Mauritius and you would expect the them to try and sell. But Marrakech is something else, the constant pestering and the same products over and over in all the shops at massively differing prices!! I didn't buy anything simply to avoid the hassle of dealing with the merchants!

“haggle!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

Love it, it's so lively and colourful. Not so keen on the haggling but it has to be done. Enjoyed watching the locals make baboosh, lamps etc.

“nice but busy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

beaware as it is easy to get lost in the souk. it was an experience but i personally would not be going back their without my boyfriend. my and my female friend visited the souk. it is narrow and very busy with little shops full of men.

we were called many things from fish and chips, to asda cheap price, to shakira, to skinny, chicken..even offered everything for free if i agreed to be the sho keepers wife for one week!!

i am a patient person but when it comes to things like this i loose my temper. few of the locals asked me to smile as my face looked like thunder due to the things that were being said.

i read reviews on tripadvisor before i went and people did advise to keep smiling and walking. i found if i smiled i got the unwanted attention that made my face like thunder.

however i would still suggest people visit it just once for the experience. i did go back 2 more times and once during the eveing when it was a little bit more relaxed as the local women and many tourists are out.

the local people are no threat and i guess they are trying to do business so cant blame them. however the men are very vocal when they see a woman and do shout out comments like, sexy, baby, nice body.

the stalls in the souks are not different from each other and they all sell the same things. do haggle and do not settle for the first price offered.

i wanted to buy a watch for my partner- fake armani and was told by the shop keep it cost 350 dirham which is about £25 pounds but i ended up haggling it down to about £9

name your price and walk away the shop keeper will come back and agree your price and if he doesnt then dont worry there are plenty of other stalls that do the same item.

“Fab but watch out!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

Vibrant, intersting and colourful, but all the bartering takes its tole, and you constantly feel ripped off. Dont get a guide, get a map! keep your money in a safe place and dont seem keen on buying it, just walk away, they chase you! what ever the starting price, take 80% off, they are still making money off you!
Night souk is also great! careful if you have kids and have small money available like 5d to give the snake charmers or dancers. Dont give more!
