“Crazy!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

This is the fast beating heart of the Medina. In the early morning you can have freshly squeezed orange juice from the carts. During the day you have typically tourist attractions avialable, like snake charmers, monkeys, men dressed in traditional outfits, etc Make sure you agree a price with them for the pictures and videos before you start recording. You have to haggle nearly everywhere in the Medina. In the evening the place is full of story tellers and you can have something to eat at the food stalls. Be picky as there are lots of them. It's good to ask at your Riad which ones are the best. The stalls are cheap but you have to tip.

“Venue Moroccan charm.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

Before entering the square, it is better to be patient and resist the attacks of the aggressive vendors. It is better not ask anything, Moroccans always will offer you guides to places of friends and then receive a hard sell.

“the famous Market Place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

It wasn't our kind of 'thing'. Too busy with Tourists - I know we are all Tourists, the ambience wasn't quite what we expected, the Cafes around this place were not very charming - this is our experience which doesn't mean others like that place

“The essence of the Medina”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

Fantastic market place - incredibly vibrant and to me, the essence of the Medina. We spent every evening of our 4-day stay walking around the Jemaa el Fna and seemed to never tire of it as there is so much to see - it is very very busy and crowded with locals and visitors - attracted by food sellers, snake charmers*, knick-knack sellers, people with monkeys*, horse and carriage cabs, shoe-polishers, craftsmen, tattoo 'artists', entertainers* of all sorts, to name a few... all milling around incessantly and all assiduously vying for attention. (Those I have asterisked do expect you to pay them if you want to watch them and/or take photos of their 'act').
You can have a really cheap dinner there (we did twice - the food was great and between 70 and 110 Dirhams did the trick!
There are plenty of restaurants and cafes surrounding the marketplace so if eating a bit 'rough' is not your thing, fear not: there are many options...
Not to be missed!
