“Dirty but lively”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

Generally an unattractive place, with horse manure and rubbish everywhere. Expect to get lots of hassle from Orange juice vendors, food vendors, beggers, snake charmers etc. Also, many pickpockets in this area. The atmosphere in the evenings, however, is quite enjoyable.

“Best food on our trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

If you get in the spirit of things the square is great for eating. It's cheap and lively and the people have some top class banter. We recommend 31 for the sausages and 55 for everything else. Our tip: they will bring you bread and olives at the start but these aren't free. Also once you've seen the menu you won't see it again so bring a pen to jot down what you ordered so there can be no debate when the bill comes! Also: the cake trolleys that go round the square are great value and really tasty.

“Especially when it gets dark !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

You cannot visit Marrakech without going to Jemaa el Fna and I would especially recommend this when it gets dark and you take part in the buzling and special atmosphere surrounding this place. Taking a photograph, any photograph, you'll surely attract some local asking for money. That's why they are at the Jemaa el Fna with their monkees, snakes, storietellers and an incredible number of fresh fruitjuice vendors. The advantage of going there when it gets dark is that it's easier to look around unnoticed than during the day.
