“Beautiful mosque and gardens”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2014

Beautiful mosque next to the square. Adjoining it is a lovely garden with orange trees that is worth strolling through.

“Nice..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2014

The mosque was closed for the times when we were there, but I don't think non-Muslims can see it from inside anyway. Gardens are beautiful with orange trees growing everywhere.

“Beautiful mosque”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2014

The mosque is only open at prayer times and to muslims alone. The exterior is beautiful with a towering minaret and surrounding trees. The inner part of the mosque is not as ornate as some other mosques we have visited, however the simplicity is akin to a lot of the buildings in the local area. There are no ablution areas within the mosque so you have to have some change with you to visit local bathrooms!

“Beautiful from outside and inside”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2014

Really beautiful building from outside and inside.

Went to pray on a Friday too which was a nice experience apart from all the beggar's outside .

The gardens are nice to walk through too.

Would highly recommend to go see and come again especially if you are in the area to see the market.

“Great traditional islamic architecture ..”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2014

I enjoyed this mosque , with its minaret square shape , it represents the old morrocan architecture style and is considered a symbol of Marrakech city , you can see it with its golden summit from any part of the town ..

Koutoubia in Arabic means = the mosque of books seller , it was named so because this area in the past was the place of books seller market , specially islamic religious books.

The architecture of the mosque from inside is marvelous , i recommend visitor to enter after take off the shoes , and for women put a scarff to cover the hair (like in vatican) and i invite every visitor to admire (like i did) the arches inside the mosque ..

It is fabulous architecture from inside and from outside

poor people are found out of the mosque , they are slept beside the walls , may be they will ask you for a little penny , if you are a charity lover give them some pennies or a little change , and if you don't want , walk without stairring at them ,no fear of them. they just ask nothing more
