“Interesting”

visit the Medina in the old town and the jewish quarter to sample Marakech. You will get the atompshere, energy and sometimes squalor, ingenuity of the people side by side with living history.

“Impressive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

We first viewed the minaret from the end of a long boulevard. It is the oldest mosque in Marrakech and is the tallest structure at 77 metres. We walked around the building and visited the original foundation of the older mosque from the 12th century. The mosque can hold 20,000 people inside and another 20,000 outside on mats amongst the old foundation.

Unfortunately non-Muslims are not allowed inside but it was a nice walk around the grounds.

“Cannot go inside unless a Muslim”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

Dominates the square in Marrakech, has a cute garden and beautiful architecture however I had seen mixed reviews regarding muslims/non muslims allowed inside. When we attended, were told non-muslims not allowed.

“A true icon of the Medina.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2014

It is a truly beautiful mosque standing there for over a 1000 years. The interior is only accessible to muslims. It is the oldest mosque in Marrakech. Every night thousands of people sit around there to relax in the evening. If you are every lost in the medina, use the Mosque as a guide as to where you are.

“Useful Landmark”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2014

Once we had located and memorised the outline of this mosque it was a useful landmark. It was the subject of an attractive show of coloured lights at night and was home to a great number of feral cats. Definitely worth a tick on the Marrakech checklist but as a non-muslim, was not particularly interesting
