“One of the best spot for Pictures in Marrakech”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2014

Koutoubia Minaret, built in the middle of the 12th century Abdel Momen Ben Ali, on the ruins of a much older palace that was built during the Almoravids dynasty, the mosque is one of the largest and most significant in Northern Africa

“Beautiful landmark”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2014

The mosque (in particular the minaret) is a perfect marker for finding your way around Marrakech.

The building is beautiful and a great example of architecture within the Maghrib. The surrounding gardens are a nice way to relax from the heat of the day too.

It's a shame that non-Muslims can't enter but we as travellers must respect local traditions.

“A great landmark ”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

It's my second time in Marrakech and the mosque is a godsend (if you'll pardon the pun) as a landmark for the main square (and airport pick up point).

All this talk about not being allowed in due to Moroccan laws is nonsense - I've just come from Casablanca and the third largest mosque (Hassan II) in the world welcomes everyone. I'm guessing it is a size and numbers thing. The one in Casablanca is four times the size and there are a tenth of the numbers of tourists.

“Gorgeous from the outside but unfortunately only Muslims can visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

The Koutoubia Mosque and its minaret can be seen from many places in the Medina although many tourists will probably not be able to enter it.

It is free for Muslims to enter but any non-Muslims will be refused entry. I would recommend going up to the building to see the architecture though as it is stunning regardless of not knowing what the interior looks like.

“Koutoubia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2014

You can't go inside - only have a look outside due to Morroccan laws. Worth having a look, but can't spend a lot of time here.
