Owner description: The Saadian Tombs are located just outside Marrakech and were constructed during the reign of Sultan Ahmad al-Mansur in the late 16th century. This is the resting place of al-Mansur, his family, and other notable officials from that era. These tombs were discovered in 1917; restoration began shortly thereafter. Today, much of its original splendour has been restored.

“Sa’adian Tombs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

This quiet place conveys something of the aesthetic sense, skill and artistry of late Andalusian culture. Buried here are the Sa’adian royal families, notably Muhammad al-Shaikh (d. 1557) and Sultan Ahmed al-Mansour (d.1603) and his family. The prayer halls are decorated with carved stucco and zellij. There’s an air of melancholy, it’s a place of rest, with none of the liveliness of daily activities, no echos of life. It seems to express the demise of Andalusian culture, more than a century after Islam had been pushed entirely from the Iberian peninsula with the fall of Granada in 1492. Next to the Kasbah Mosque, with many of the richly colored tiled graves remaining, the cemetery is situated in the midst of the city, yet a sense of quiet and absolute stillness prevails. Definitely worth a visit.

Beautiful tranquil place, well worth a visit. Amazing architecture, lots of kittens too. We took the Red Tour bus for 48 hours so it was easy find.

“dont go out of your way to find them”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

I must be missing something.
If you have to go, you will do it in 10 minutes.
Its just a load of mosiacs on the floor with some nice buildings.
When you come out eat in kasbah cafe across road.

“Most exquisite decoration in town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Peaceful, beautiful setting. The tiling and carving are both exceptional, even pipping that in the Ben Youssef Madrassa. The garden is also nicely laid out with vibrant flowering bushes.

“Pleasant, no more”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

This is not really a spectacular place, only one really beautifull room you must see.
It's worth the price of admission but if you run out of time, don't worry that you missed it.
