My partner booked this as a treat for my birthday. We stayed from Friday through to Monday and from arrival at the airport to our departure late on Monday we were overwhelmed by how wonderful Riad Kaiss - and particularly the staff - were.
On request, the Riad arranged to pick us up at the airport - a good thing as this was our first time in Marrakech and I think we would have struggled to navigate the labyrinthine streets of the old town. After a short taxi ride and short walk with a hand-drawn cart we arrived at the Riad.
We arrived at an ornate wooden door in an otherwise unremarkable and plain building - indistinguishable from all the buildings in the old town. But through the door was a wonderland - something so unexpected and beautiful it literally took our breath away.
The welcome by Hajiba was also amazing - we were given a delightful mint tea and pastries before we even checked in: we have never before or since experienced the friendliness and level of service we experienced here. Hajiba and Hayat (the manager) were simply amazing - nothing was too much trouble; they always had a smile; and their friendly and helpful nature clearly rubbed off on all the staff.
They helped us book restaurants, decide where to visit, and gave advice and directions. In the Riad, we were able to eat and drink at any time and - unusually - anywhere in the Riad. And there were so many places we could sit and relax - from the two beautiful courtyards at ground level to any number of little alcoves right up to the rooftop terrace.
The atmosphere at the Riad was so relaxed and we were made to feel so at home here. And even though there were a dozen or so rooms, we hardly saw anyone. The maze of beautifully ornate hallways and stairways made it unlikely you would bump in to anyone - except somehow - just when you needed them - you would come across Hayat or Hajiba or one of the staff.
Our room was amazing, four poster bed with fresh rose petals every day and a private terrace with two sun loungers and a cabana. As it was my birthday, we decided to have dinner on our terrace, at the end of which all the hotel staff brought me a birthday cake complete with candles and sang happy birthday to me in English and then in French!
I was also treated to a hammam and massage at the Riad both of which were fantastic. We had never had a hammam before, and it was certainly memorable and left us feeling cleansed and relaxed. The massage was also first rate.
We really can't fault this Riad and would certainly recommend it unreservedly - a true jewel.
