5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2010

My husband and I spent 2 nights in this beautiful riad at the end of a wonderful trip around Morocco. It is an extremely comfortable riad with only 9 rooms, each one different and designed in a traditional but modern way. The atmosphere is one of calm and comfort. The food was particularly good. We had eaten out in several expensive restaurants in Marrakech earlier in our holiday but the food in the Riad Noga beat them all! I could go on and on- the pool, sun terraces, comfortable beds, the lovely parrot and 2 tortoises!! It was lovely.

This Riad is lovely, it's set at the end of a tall, narrow, typical marrakech street so arriving at 11pm was quite nerve wracking but once inside it's paradise. Breakfast can be taken on the roof in the sun, where there are also loungers for bathing and we had a wonderful dinner in the courtyard. The pool is great and gets the sun and the shade - it's in the centre of the Riad and makes you feel a million miles from anywhere! The staff were friendly and really helpful - we had never been to Marrakech before so they pointed us in the right direction. It is about a 10 min walk to the main square where there are plenty of restaurants, outdoor market and souks - which as perfect for our 3 night stay for sightseeing. We walked to and from the square at all hours of the day including late in to the evening and felt safe doing the walk even though when you first arrive its quite overwhelming. The room we had was traditional and comfortable and ensuite was great with amazing ceiling feature and very good walk in shower. I'd really recommend this Riad if you are looking for somewhere to stay in Marrakech.

From the welcome cup of tea to allowing us to check out very late they made every moment of our stay a joy. Friendly staff who never stopped smiling and made us feel right at home. Great food. Way too much food at breakfast so that we never finished it. Breakfast on the terrace and superb dinners in the dining room. Our room (the Grey room) was comfortable and clean. All in all a great little place to stay. Only minutes away from the madness of the Medina but a real gem of a place to relax in peace. Highly recommended. Watch out for the tortoises!

Heard about this gem via an article in the Guardian. Every aspect of our Riad Noga experience was perfect and we certainly go again. We loved every minute of our stay.

We really loved our stay at Riad Noga. It offered us the perfect opportunity to relax. The staff were friendly and efficient, and allowed us to just get on with relaxing no matter where in the expansive Riad we were.

Would definitely recommmend it.

  • Liked — the space, the many terraces to choose from, the relaxed feel
  • Disliked — quite a lot of stairs!

Stayed for a week at the riad noga from 5-12 May 2007. The riad and it's staff were absolutely amazing. The riad itself has 3 terraces, 2 court yards and a good size pool. We stayed in the smaller white room but it was more than ample. Nothing was too much trouble for Ali and the rest of the staff. The riad is very calm amongst the madness that is Marrakech and it is only a 5 minute walk from the centre. Food was excellent with a good and diverse menu. Lovely to eat under the stars on the terrace. I would not hesitate to recommend this riad and can't wait for my return trip.

We can't comment on the quality of the accommodation itself. From what we saw of it (i.e. the courtyard and pool area), it looked nice.

However, the quality of service that we received when the manager of the Riad Noga managed to double-book us for a 2 night stay in November was extremely unsatisfactory - in stark contrast to the service standards that we experienced in other riads in Marrakech and Essaouira.

We had booked a room for two nights over the telephone. We were asked to confirm by email, which we did. One day later, we had received no reply, so we re-sent the confirmation email. We received a response which asserted that our first email had not been received, and that in the meantime, the room which we had booked had now been reserved by someone else. However, the manager proposed an alternative solution - we could have her own room (chambre de la patronne) for the first night (at the price of 195 euros), and another room on the second night. We rang her up to double-check that this would be OK, she confirmed that it would be fine. In the circumstances, we took no further steps to make any reservations elsewhere.

When we arrived, the manager told us that, on second thoughts, she would not be able to put us up in the chambre de la patronne after all. She had apparently arranged, however, for us to stay at another riad for the first of the two nights - at which she assured us, some of her previous clients had been extremely happy (as a result of which we inferred that it would be of a similar standard and quality to the Riad Noga). After waiting for an hour, we (and our luggage) were taken to the new riad by a fixer (who, amongst other things, managed to run over an old woman on the drive there, and then tried to make us a dinner reservation at his 'friend's' restaurant ...).

The new riad was seriously substandard - in terms of location, quality, cleanliness, and facilities. When we rang the manager of the Riad Noga to explain that this was the case (and to complain), she washed her hands of the situation, stating that because it was cheaper than her own riad, we should be happy with the alternative arrangement. This was not something she had told us when she first suggested the alternative arrangement to us - if she had, we would obviously have taken a somewhat dim view of the arrangement. In fact, the alternative riad wanted to charge us 1000 dirham per night (100 euros per night), which was much more expensive than it deserved - and in any event, if we had wanted a cheap riad, we would have booked a cheap riad in the first place.

As it was, we took matters into our own hands, and found (at short notice) a delightful suite at a new riad hotel very near the Djmaa-al-Fnaa, for only 900 dirham per night.

So what's our complaint with the Riad Noga? The fact that they messed us around on our reservation, and when they had double-booked, sought to place us in an alternative riad without properly explaining the situation to us, and without explaining the various options that were open to us, or assisting us in finding a suitable alternative riad. In short, they tried to treat us like we were idiots, and wasted our time in the process.... This is not the kind of service one expects from a Riad that holds itself out as being of a superiod standard, as being suitable for couples on a romantic getaway, and which seeks to charge 195 euors per night...
