“This place is amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2007

Stayed for a week at the riad noga from 5-12 May 2007. The riad and it's staff were absolutely amazing. The riad itself has 3 terraces, 2 court yards and a good size pool. We stayed in the smaller white room but it was more than ample. Nothing was too much trouble for Ali and the rest of the staff. The riad is very calm amongst the madness that is Marrakech and it is only a 5 minute walk from the centre. Food was excellent with a good and diverse menu. Lovely to eat under the stars on the terrace. I would not hesitate to recommend this riad and can't wait for my return trip.

We can't comment on the quality of the accommodation itself. From what we saw of it (i.e. the courtyard and pool area), it looked nice.

However, the quality of service that we received when the manager of the Riad Noga managed to double-book us for a 2 night stay in November was extremely unsatisfactory - in stark contrast to the service standards that we experienced in other riads in Marrakech and Essaouira.

We had booked a room for two nights over the telephone. We were asked to confirm by email, which we did. One day later, we had received no reply, so we re-sent the confirmation email. We received a response which asserted that our first email had not been received, and that in the meantime, the room which we had booked had now been reserved by someone else. However, the manager proposed an alternative solution - we could have her own room (chambre de la patronne) for the first night (at the price of 195 euros), and another room on the second night. We rang her up to double-check that this would be OK, she confirmed that it would be fine. In the circumstances, we took no further steps to make any reservations elsewhere.

When we arrived, the manager told us that, on second thoughts, she would not be able to put us up in the chambre de la patronne after all. She had apparently arranged, however, for us to stay at another riad for the first of the two nights - at which she assured us, some of her previous clients had been extremely happy (as a result of which we inferred that it would be of a similar standard and quality to the Riad Noga). After waiting for an hour, we (and our luggage) were taken to the new riad by a fixer (who, amongst other things, managed to run over an old woman on the drive there, and then tried to make us a dinner reservation at his 'friend's' restaurant ...).

The new riad was seriously substandard - in terms of location, quality, cleanliness, and facilities. When we rang the manager of the Riad Noga to explain that this was the case (and to complain), she washed her hands of the situation, stating that because it was cheaper than her own riad, we should be happy with the alternative arrangement. This was not something she had told us when she first suggested the alternative arrangement to us - if she had, we would obviously have taken a somewhat dim view of the arrangement. In fact, the alternative riad wanted to charge us 1000 dirham per night (100 euros per night), which was much more expensive than it deserved - and in any event, if we had wanted a cheap riad, we would have booked a cheap riad in the first place.

As it was, we took matters into our own hands, and found (at short notice) a delightful suite at a new riad hotel very near the Djmaa-al-Fnaa, for only 900 dirham per night.

So what's our complaint with the Riad Noga? The fact that they messed us around on our reservation, and when they had double-booked, sought to place us in an alternative riad without properly explaining the situation to us, and without explaining the various options that were open to us, or assisting us in finding a suitable alternative riad. In short, they tried to treat us like we were idiots, and wasted our time in the process.... This is not the kind of service one expects from a Riad that holds itself out as being of a superiod standard, as being suitable for couples on a romantic getaway, and which seeks to charge 195 euors per night...

We spent the first night of our honeymoon in this Raid. It was just great, a nice place to retire to to come down from the high of getting married.

The staff spoke little or no english - but that was not an issue at all - I managed to muddle by with my O Grade French. The place was very bright and airy with nice bright reds and yellows.

We found the place very easy to get to, especially when compared against El Cadi in the evenings as a car can get within 100m of the front door!

In all the Raid Noga set us up quite nicely for our trip to Dar Ahlam and we will have better memories of Raid Noga than we ever will of El Cadi (where we returned to after our trip up country to Dar Ahlam).

This was our first trip to Marrakech and we were not sure of what to expect. Staying at the Riada Noga was a great idea. We arrived late at night and received a very kind welcome and much sought-after drinks. All members of staff were courteous and friendly, the hotel's pool was just perfect, and despite its phantastically central location it was always possible to relax in silence. The Riad Noga has two court yards - an old one, beautifully preserved, and a new one featuring a large enough pool. Don't miss the cute parrot in the traditional courtyard!

As first timers to Marrakech it was a little nerve wracking to arrive in the middle of the deserted Medina in the middle of night. However once the door of the fabulous Riad Noga was opened and the friendly staff offered us drinks in the beautiful courtyard we were hooked. Our room was so homely and fabulous with upto date magazines and holiday lite reading to hand. The Noga is extremely friendly and very efficiently run. The surroundings are a tranquil retreat from the nearby bustle of the Jama El Fnar square and unusually for a Riad the Noga has a small (but perfectly formed) pool. Private roof terraces and a vocal resident parrot help to make you feel at home in Marrakech.
