Just back from this wonderful hotel after four days lazing by the lovely pool in the very peaceful gardens and hitting the madness of the Medina in the evenings.
The hotel rooms are spacious, clean, well equipped and quiet (ours overlooked the pool). The staff are so helpful, cheerful and polite (especially the woman who was on reception every morning for whom nothing was too much trouble and the good looking, bald breakfast waiter who brought "le bon cafe" every morning with a cheery smile).
The pool is perfect - big enough, cold enough to be refreshing in the pretty intense heat, quiet but still enjoyed by laughing, splashing children and clean.
The gardens are well-kempt and the sunbed guys do a good job - though unfortunately it is necessary to do that awful sunbed grabbing thing as soon as they start putting them out in the mornings.
Breakfast is just fine - slightly chaotic but only in a charming Moroccan way, limited choice but with such delicious fresh rolls, fruit, orange juice and ham and cheese what more do you need?
The location is very good - far enough from the frenetic Jemaa El Fna but an easy taxi ride away.
One or two points to mention from a personal point of view:
1. We were a mother and 17-year-old daughter and we had no unwelcome attention and did not feel threatened at any time.
2. When we came out of the airport the taxi drivers wanted 150 Dirhams - we eventually got them down to 80D.
3. Going out in the evening we walked to the main road (2 mins) and flagged down a taxi which charged a maximum of 30D to go to the Square.
4. At the souks the vendors do try to get you to buy their stuff but if you politely shake your head and walk on they really don't bother you and are perfectly pleasant.
5. We went to the Chez Ali Fantasia evening which is 100 per cent touristy but still a highly entertaining evening with very good food. It seems expensive (450D per person) but that includes transport to and from the hotel, plenty of food and the show itself and we felt it was well worth it for something a little different.
6. When you leave Marrakech don't think that once you have passed through the security departure point at the airport that you will be through to departures - instead you will find yourself in a huge queue for passport control which we waited in for 1 hour - very tedious.
We thoroughly enjoyed our four days in Marrakech and, if we were ever to return, I would have absolutely no hesitation in booking this hotel again.
