3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

We have recently ( December 2012) stayed in Tichka Hotel for 7 nights with half board. Hotel has interesting design and pretty garden with pool. Room had heating so we were warm during cold evenings and enjoyed our stay. Staff was friendly and helpful. On the other hand our bathroom wasn't really clean ( titles looked like they haven't seen cleaner for a long time.) Bedding smelled from bleach and still had stains on. Carpet in hallway had washed out patches and wasn't hovered regularly. I was worried about that as the reviews were not too great but can say it was good bargain but definitely more of a 3 star hotel than advertised 4.
Foodwise - breakfast had nice selection and dinners were good too. Nothing for vegetarians but that's quite difficult in whole Marrakech.
Please be aware the drinks are always added on top. We had a bit of surprise bill at the end.
Also do not take any excursion organized by the hotel. It's overpriced and you better off hiring a grand taxi, which will probably take you there for half price.
Please do avoid the Chez Ali ( Fantasia show). Horrible food and felt so lifeless, rushed and over priced. Was sick from the food all next day, do not recommend to anyone.
Hammam/massage in hotel were good and very relaxing.
In terms of distance from Medina it is about half an hour walking along main road or you can take small taxi.

Room Tip: Aim at garden room, you will have a fab view of the pool.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

Stopped here for 4 days in November and found the bedroom and bathroom very clean and orderly.

The bed was perhaps too soft for my liking but that is just my choice. Breakfast choice was varied and plentiful. The whole hotel had the impression of being very clean. Had dinner in the hotel twice and again no complaints.

In all a very pleasant 4 day stay.

Tichka is an amazing hotel. The rooms are clean & modern, the bed is comfortable & you get an amazing pool view.
For breakfast you get an amazing buffet & the crepes are a must! Staff are really friendly & helpful- regularly saved us money on taxis...
The location is not the best as it is some distance from the centre, square & markets-a taxi ride there (20-25Dh if you can haggle, otherwise double or triple).
Would definately go again.

A delightful hotel, well managed with excellent staff and fabulous food. Gardens and pool are beautiful and well maintained. We passed 12 days in October and will definitely return.
Reception and bar staff are fabulous and nothing was too much trouble. Hotel director was seen around the hotel making sure that everything was going well.
Nice Moroccan atmosphere in a truly pleasant hotel.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view of the swimming pool

First impression of hotel was pretty good - beautiful design, with extensive tiling in foyer and view out onto what I think sells the hotel to most - the pool. I went with a friend and we had a twin room, decent size but a few niggles. There were no chairs & table on our balcony - a request resulted in 2 small chairs appearing, no table though. A lightbulb wasn't replaced despite 2 requests & someone coming to see the light in question. Aircon was very weak & bathroom door dirty with splatters. A lot of the staff just seem vacant and only some speak English which adds to the communication challenge. One lady at reception was helpful, the others are slow to respond and it's extremely hit & miss as to whether they deliver on what has been asked.
We had half board - breakfast was disappointing for a country that has lots of fresh fruit in season - serving just fresh melon & sliced oranges - the organges were lacking in taste. Small selection of pastries, 1 meat (artificial in colour), 1 cheese, bit of salad, olives & figs. Dinner was somewhat bland - poor choice on mains - usually just 2 dishes. The salads would have been vastly improved with some sauces, even some oil & vinegar. So, whilst you might find food that you could eat, it's a pretty joyless experience. As has been said by others, dishes take ages to get replaced e.g. fruits at breakfast. Several days the coffee machine was not working, 1 day it simply hadn't been plugged in & turned on, another day it wasn't working, but no sign had been put up. Flasks with water, milk etc unlabelled so it's just unnecesarily hard work finding what you need for a hot breakfast drink. I think the only reason the hotel has a 4* rating is becuase it used to belong to a 4* chain. There's no way the food standard, service or standard of the place deserves this. Breakfast chairs are very tatty, both the fabric & e.g. wobbly legs. I would advise against drinking the hotel cocktails as I was very ill & I can only put it down to a dodgy tasting moquito - very syrupy & nothing like a moquito. To get a taxi into town, just walk the 100 yards to the main road & get a small yellow taxi - they ask for 30 to 50 Dirhams, but tell them you usually pay 15 or 20, be prepared to let a couple turn you down & after several attempts they'll agree. Coming back from town in the evening you should negotiate down to 25 dirhams. They try to charge an extra 10 dirhams in the evening.

My friends and I went to Marrakech for a short breat, Thursday to Sunday. After a very warm welcome, we were shown to our rooms, 2 next door to each other on the third floor. The rooms were basic but very clean and having read the reviews before departure we were delighted with what we found. Mohammed the porter is brilliant, nothing is too much trouble. We were looked after from arrival to departure. The service in the restaurant/buffet area was passable but we only had breakfast (help yourself) so this was not a problem. There are lots of restaurants nearby and in the main town so I would not bother with half board.
We had the most amazing break, keep lots of small change for tips. If you can find a taxi man to take you to the Atlas Mountains for the day approx 600D it is well worth it. We bartered our man from 600 down to 500D (divide by 13 for the pound) and were out from 930am -630pm with visits to the Jewish Quarter, the spice souks, a traditional Moroccan market, an Argon Oil cooperative in the mountains and finally a walk by a separate guide to the waterfall in the Atlas mountains with a lunch by the river on route. For around £40 this was excellent value for money. Remember this is Morocco; go with an open mind and you won't be disappointed. Take a bag that can be worn across your body so that your valuables are safe because there are pickpockets in the main market.

Room Tip: Make sure you have plenty of change for tips. Go with an empty case to bring things back, there is...

Ok so reviews have been mixed about this hotel and I can understand why. This hotel is a nice hotel - we had a lovely room (306) with a HUGE bed and the people were very nice as well - but you can not be afraid to ask for what you want .... if you need a sunbed and towel you have to go to the pool hut and ask ... if you want a drink you have to get up off yer bum and get one ....
The food is a bit samey yes but all very fresh - however if yoy are like me and have a very sensitive stomach do not think you can get away with the salad and fresh veg as it will have a catastrophic results !
The location was good for us as it was out of the hussle and bussle of the city so a little more peaceful - there are however a few little cafe's around the hotel as well.
Don't buy water at the hotel - buy it from the shop round the corner ( everything sooooo much cheaper)
I would recommend Chicago's cafe up the road for easy western bites to eat and I would also recommend for a nicer meal out : Pepe Nero and Le Chat Qui Rit - stunning food!
House keeping came everyday but were a little slack in the fact they made the bed but only changed the sheets/pillow cases once in 10 days .... this could have been better.
I don't normally write reviews but I did feel people were over critical of this place. It was lovely and the people were great - it may not be five star rating but it was clean and most defintely live-able for out gorgeous 10 day trip :)

Room Tip: room 306 - top floor facing the pool on left hand side of hotel
