“tasteful, beautiful, heavenly!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2010

We have stayed at Jnane Tamsna many times and it is still our favorite place in Marrakech. As soon as we entered, the scent of the garden brought back happy memories of previous stays. Over the last few years we have seen the garden mature. It now has grown into a lush paradise, all under the professional guidance of Gary Martin, part owner and ethnobotanist by profession. We enjoyed a few very relaxed days in the sun. Lunch was the most exiting outing of the day. It is being served in the courtyard of the main house. The children loved being able to walk around and explore. They did not want to leave at the end. Partly because they were terribly spoilt by all the attention they were getting from the staff. The lay out of Jnane Tamsna with several villas and 5 five different swiming pools (!) makes it easy to always find a place of your liking. We met up with another couple with a small child. Our daughter instantly became friends with her. We found a pool where the children could have fun, while some of the other people staying choose a more quiet one.. This is one of the great things about Jnane Tamsna. There is so much space and so much choice. The service is very professional (most of the staff members have been around since we started coming 7 years ago). The philophy of the place is laid back. Service is never in your face, but it is there when needed. We just love it there. Every time we leave we have made new friends.

We always seem to make new friends.

I would not suggest that you spend longer than a weekend in this flaking gilded cage. The food becomes depressingly samey, our nadir was a salad of shredded red cabbage, sliced apple and sliced beetroot, the food overall is little if at all better than average. Be careful of the, apparently, complimentary drinks trolley before dinner, 8 Euos for a G&T is the unadvertised pricing. You will need to ask for pool towels from someone (if you can find a bed by one of the pools (which are not all that idyllic (the one by the private pavillion is nicest if it is available))). You are pretty remote in this place and it is something of an effort to get into town, I imagine that there are significantly better places like this closer in, we were pretty underwhelmed by Jnane Tamsna's totally average achievements in pretty much every area. If you go I hope that you find it a more rewarding experience than we did.

Unwelcoming, shabby, down at heel as if it had been recently evacuated and people had left in a hurry to get away, in fact we were the only guests on the estate. Very poor service, in need of a complete overhaul. Mouldy carpet dumped on the roof terrace of the 'deluxe suite',unsafe cables there, cracked tiles, broken towel rail, dirty plastic loungers, filthy curtains. Poor breakfast so we did not eat any other meals there. Main house/hotel in darkness every evening so nowhere to go apart from the room. Far away from the Medina (40 minutes) 300 Dirhams each way by taxi. It was Ramadan but this did not excuse the poor state of affairs, although we have now been compensated. The Kasbah du Toubkal, Imlil, in the Atlas run by the Berber people, also in Ramadam, however was superb.

The combination of rural tranquility, Zen-like aesthetics and ecological initiatives makes for an almost utopian scenario.” Time out Guide, ‘‘Mrs. Loum-Martin was the first one to create a new type of tourism….she has contributed enormously to the style of Marrakech’’, The Wall Street Journal, ‘‘Meryanne Loum-Martin undoubtedly has the Midas touch. A-list celebrities flock to Jnane Tamsna like moths to a flame. It’s grand yet low-key, uber-stylish yet down-to-earth, and tranquil without ever being boring. How does she do it?’’ , Paula Hardy, Lonely Planet.....and I just can confirm all that saying. I have stayed in Jnane Tamsna several times, for business or for Yoga holidays and pure pleasure. Meryannne offers a lifestyle of serenity and well-being in the Palmeraie. Jnane Tamsna gives guests an atmosphere of being at home while providing the comfort and services of a luxury resort. The wide range of facilities and services as well as wonderful landscaped gardens, the fantastic cuisine and private chill-out corners make this ideal for indulgence. Here one is treated to the rare fruits of the desert.

We attended a friend's wedding at Jnane Tamsna in early May. The location is nothing short of gorgeous. The working gardens are a refreshing and environmentally conscious alternative to the golf courses, manicured lawns and inappopriate plants often found in luxury resorts in hot dry climates. Jnane Tamsna proves that you can achieve luxury and ecology at the same time!

While we did not stay the night, we did use a room to put our baby to sleep and were very, very impressed with the design, atmosphere, scale and peaceful feeling of the rooms and the public spaces. The staff were very helpful and friendly, accomodating our specific needs. As for the owner Meryanne, she is pure class. A welcoming and friendly hostess, and an inspiring woman of the world.

The wedding itself was largely organised by Jnane Tamsna, and was spectacular. It included a lovely small ceremony followed by traditional Moroccan drumming and dancing led by some local performers, a dinner fit for royalty and dancing under the stars until early the next morning. Despite the very, very late hour, Meryanne and her staff were available and helpful the whole time.

I didn't actually stay at Jnan Tamsna, but my friends had a wedding and reception there. While it's a way outside of the medina (and don't get scared when the cab driver appears to be taking you to the middle of nowhere...) once we got there it was this beautiful oasis and the perfect place for a wedding!

The actual service was wonderful, appetizer / drink service was amazing. We walked to the reception area - and it was breathtaking. The food was absolutely amazing and I asked for seconds. The whole group partied the night away and it was such an amazing experience. If you're looking at a place in the Marrakech area for a wedding, this is definitely the place.

The staff also has a good relationship with the cab drivers and helped us negotiate a fair rate back to the medina!

I have stayed at Jnane Tamsna many times, on my own and with my children.
Waking up to bird song and a warm gentle breeze blowing through my curtains is, for me, total bliss.
The hotel is wonderfully stylish and Meryanne and her staff, are as kind, thoughtful and hospitable as could be.
