“First time in Morocco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

It was our first time in Morocco and the hotel was a wonderful introduction to Marrakesh: a haven in a busy city. Beautiful inner courtyards, tastefully furnished rooms, lovely pools. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Loved going up to the rooftop terrace from our room to read, relax after a day out and enjoy the views with the Atlas Mountains and Koutoubia Mosque.

Room Tip: Top floor rooms have a private terrace

For my first trip to Marrakech, I could not have had a better introduction than the hospitality and quiet luxury at La Villa des Orangers. This small and exquisite hotel used to be a private home, and it is both intimate and authentic. From the moment we entered from the busy streets of the medina, we were enveloped by a sense of calm and privacy. The interior courtyards, beautiful pools, and numerous living spaces welcomed us and drew us in. Every detail is perfect: spacious rooms, tile floors, delicious meals, and courteous and attentive service. There is even laundry service. Don't let the high walls and small door on the street fool you; behind it is a wonderful oasis! The location is perfect for exploring the city, and the hotel staff can help you with restaurant recommendations, etc. For the discerning traveler, La Villa des Orangers is a must when in Marrakech.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms have roof-top patios with private outdoor showers, chaise lounges, and a breakfas...

We stayed for one night on the last night of our holiday and had spent a fantastic 4 days at Kasbah Tamadot in the Atlas Mountains and wish we had missed this hotel and spent an extra day at KT. (see separate review)
As other reviewers have said it is a calm oasis in the middle of Marrakech, and truly like being in a Hercule Poirot novel from the 1920's - but this is the next century!
We had a deluxe room, which was small 8 foot wide, we could touch the walls on both side from the bed! and painted dark maroon, maybe nice if you want to be in a womb. The room had a TV which didn't work, a mini bar with all soft drinks free, but only had 2 bottles of water in, we weren't told you had to call room service for all other soft drinks. On arrival the manager asked if we wanted a drink so we ordered champagne - BIG MISTAKE £55 for 2 glasses, be warned (and they were complimentary at KT) The bathroom was OK if you were 4 foot tall as that is where the shower was fixed to the wall no good for my husband who is over 6 foot. It was a saloon type door into the bathroom which was tight for this larger lady. There was no where in the room to put your case, all in all a disappointing room -and only £450 a night!!
There was a roof terrace - great we thought, beware of breaking your neck on the steep ascent and decent with no lighting and no hand rail.
It was ramadan during our stay which meant we couldn't eat before 8.30pm, not what we had experienced on the previous 4 nights, but we put up with it, although starving! we ate nice food, but large portions with no finesse, and the staff were efficient and brusque, little English spoken and no ready smiles or friendliness.
After eating at 10pm I was very excited to go out and see the night time of Marrakech, snake charmers, and spice markets. I went to the safe to get our money, and after entering my pin number 3 times was LOCKED OUT!
I called reception and was told no one could open the safe so we would have to wait until the next day when the safe person returned. Our papers, insurance documents, passports, money etc was all inside the safe, so if we had fallen ill in the night, or been in trouble we were stuck! I demanded that the safe be opened and they called the safe opener and we waited until 11.15 for them to turn up, by which time it was too late to go into town, so I missed the whole thing. We were told that the safe door would not open as we had a wallet inside the safe that was too close to the door and was stopping it open - well why not tell us this in advance and we would have pushed the wallet further into the safe!
On checking out I told the manager all these things and they didn't apologise or seem to care.
At the end of the day this is a Relais and Chateau hotel that we paid £650 for one night -
Give it a wide berth.

We spent one night at La Villa des Orangers and it was our favorite hotel during our 10-day trip in Morocco. We had booked a room with a private terrace. The room itself was plush and tastefully decorated, however the shower was a bit impractical.
It's one of those hotels where you don't want leave once you check in. Our stay at La Villa des Orangers was towards the end of our holiday and so we decided to make the most of the hotel and take it easy.
We started our afternoon with a treatment at spa. We enjoyed a Hammam treatment along with a massage.
We followed this by a 3-course dinner at the hotel. The food was excellent and we ended the night with a night-cap by the fire place in the bar area. The service at dinner was excellent. Made for a perfect evening.
The next morning, we had a lazy breakfast on our private terrace. It was a great spread.... Topped off with an amazing view of Marrakech.
La Villa des Orangers is a must stay at place!

Upon your arrival you step through the magic door from the busy street. After the door there is complete calm. Our room faced the courtyard and was delightful Moroccan style. Many places for privacy in the lobby if you wish to dine or have a drink. The staff was very caring and tended to your every need. Breakfast around the pool was quite lovely. They even do your laundry, without charge. A good choice in Marrakech.

La Villa des Orangers is the place to stay in Marrakech. In planning the trip, I went back and forth between a few other larger hotel. My wife and I were glad we stayed at La Villa des Orangers. Is off a busy street, but once you enter through the doors – relaxing sanctuary; it is quite peaceful. Villa des Orangers is beautiful. It’s a few blocks to Jemaa el-Fnaa. Personally, I was glad to be slightly away from being directly in the old city (medina quarters). It's within the walls, but not in the craziness of the markets. We were there during shoulder season in December, so the weather cooled down at night and days were wonderful. Our room was a beautiful one with a sitting area. The bathroom with bath and separate shower was just as large as the sleeping area. Outside of ours doors, our room had a stairs that led to a rooftop sitting area larger than our room. It was very cool to sit up at night and see the lights of Marrakech.

Breakfast felt like sitting in someone’s living room. The choices are basic, but the staff works very hard to make sure you get what you need. Fruits, breads, eggs, bacon, etc. After breakfast everyday, the location of Villa des Orangers was a walk to many tourist sites. We had dinner at various places in Marrakech, outside of the hotel, but everything was walkable or a quick taxi ride, which the hotel staff would always easily hail. My opinion, La Villa des Orangers is the place to stay in Marrakech.

We booked this hotel for our 1 year wedding anniversary, the hotel organised transport from the airport and back again which was a little relief.

Upon arriving at the hotel we honestly thought where on earth did we book as the surrounding area is a little bit rough, but once you walk through the doors its like a little paradise with birds singing. We were immediately shown around by a member of staff which was great as you got a feel for the hotel, once in our hotel room we were offered fresh orange juice and Moroccan tea (both amazing)

We were looking for a relaxing get away and this is exactly what we found, the staff were very attentive and even tried to get you items of food that may not be on the menu (eg/ tomato and cucumber) We ate at the hotel 1 evening by the pool and again, the food was amazing, the bill came to around £115 for 2 people which include drinks. If you're looking for a nice meal you'll be paying around this anywhere you go.

If your looking for a relaxed break this is a great hotel and it's very close to the Jemaa el Fna if you fancy leaving the hotel although crossing the roads are a bit of a nightmare :)

Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend it.

Room Tip: Room with terrace onto the roof-top pool are amazing.
