“Quiet, lovely Riad away from the crowds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2012

This riad is well situated on the parameter of the busy Marrakech medina. We arrived after 3 days in the desert to this beautiful oasis. It is hidden between a tire shop and a repair shop. Don't let that put you off - once through the doors you are in a luxurious boutique hotel. The staff was very welcoming and showed us around. There are 2 courtyards - one where lunch is served and one where breakfast is served. There are many alcoves where you can simply relax. The main pool is small (you could swim laps though) and the other is on the rooftop. Many of the rooms have rooftop terraces near the 2nd pool. Our junior suite (#21) was situated on the ground floor looking out over the courtyard near the larger pool. It was very private. While many of the riads in Marrakech are decorated in Moroccan motifs, our was very "euro" - alot of black, white and tans. There were 3 vases of fresh roses placed throughout our room. The bathroom was cavernous with many luxury touches. This is the type of place where service is exactly what you want - not overt but there when you need something - we had drinks in the afternoon around the pool and on the second day the staff already had remembered "our usual." When you leave to go out, they also have a deal with the Petit Taxi service - they negotiate your fare and you don't pay until you return to the hotel - ensuring that your cab will come back and get you! Our room included breakfast (whenever and wherever you wanted it), light lunch (but at 3 courses, I wouldn't call it light), laundry service and unlimited water and sodas from the mini-bar. The food was excellent. While on the expensive side, this is well worth the splurge.

This is a special place! Yes it is a Relais et Chateaux establishment but is is exceptional even by their high standards. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The courtyards and gardens and pools are tranquil and inviting after the hustle and bustle of Marrakech souks and sites. The restaurant and open-air eating offer excellent French and Moroccan cuisine. Great service too from very friendly staff.

Room Tip: All we saw were excellent!

The pros : typical riad, each room is different and tastefully decorated, many of them with private terraces, excellent restaurant with many private rooms, beautiful and quiet patios full of flowers, helpful and knowledgeable staff

The cons : fitness room is very small and would probably be hard to use with more than 2 people's at a time, rooms can be cold at night during spring season,

A door squeezed in between a couple of moped repair workshops, opposite a little grocery advertising Omo - could this really be the best riad in Marrakesh, as our agent promised? Down a dark passage into a small Reception area, then the door opens into a lovely patio, then another passage into a beautiful courtyard with a pool, people enjoying lunch under a pergola, across the next patio and up a flight of steps to our room - full of character as well as comfort - up a few more steps to a stylish bathroom, then out a door and up another flight of steps to a private roof terrace with loungers and a view of the snowcapped range of the High Atlas! This was a perfect retreat from the bustle of the souks and the mayhem of traffic round the Koutoubia Mosque, both just a few minutes' walk away. In the evenings we found the dining menu so good we didn't bother to go out - and when we lunched at La Mamounia's Italian restaurant we decided that the food wasn't as good as at the Villa des Orangers. Our booking included breakfast, an excellent lunch and all non-alcoholic drinks. It was billed as a 'light lunch' but was more than that suggests, and delicious, and in common with most of the other guests, we found it was very nice to come back to the riad for a break in the middle of the day before going out to explore the city more and especially the Djemaa el Fna in the late afternoon when it gets warmed up for the evening. Good too to have a pool for a refreshing dip (not really big enough for Serious Swimming), and space to relax on a lounger with a mint tea between all that negotiating in the souks.

I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. I have travelled extensively around the world and generally prefer to stay in 4 or 5 star hotels, and Villa des Orangers is in my Top 3, if not number 1. As others have stated, the location is perfect (particularly for a single female travelling by myself, so I didn't want to have to go far to get to the sights), the rooms are lovely and spacious; the gardens and energy of the hotel is a serene oasis in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Marrakech and the good is great (the morning OJ is lovely). But for me, as important as all these other features are - it comes down to the staff and they are the best in the world that I have come across. From the moment I checked in at reception, to the food staff and even the housekeeping staff. Nothing is too much trouble, it is always done with a smile, and everything is remembered. Not only is it a perfect hotel for longer travellers, I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for anyone who wanted a long weekend in Marrakech - it is the perfect getaway. My thanks to all the staff at Villa des Orangers for making my stay so enjoyable and memorable.

Room Tip: Large Suite with a rooftop terrace - with the rooftop terrace being a lovely place to enjoy sunset.

For a first trip to Marrakech as a well-travelled family used to 5 star accommodation, we were delighted with our choice of the beautiful Villa des Orangers. The staff are discreet, accommodating and charming. It is well-located in the heart of the Medina, making it a perfect location to explore the sights and exotic delights of Marrakech. Excellent local guides were procured with ease by the hotel and their recommendations and guidance were very helpful. The rooms are exquisitely decorated in chic Moroccan style. The breakfasts and lunches, often included in the room rate, along with airport transfers, laundry and all non-alcoholic drinks, were stunningly presented and very good. The main pool is heated, helpful in the cooler months, and there is an amazing view from the roof of the entire skyline, along with another pool. We would definitely return and recommend it highly as a wonderful oasis in the heart of Marrakech.

Room Tip: We had a duplex suite with terrace to accommodate 2 children which worked perfectly.

If you are looking for an authentic small hotel experience in Marrakech which is filled with charm and has a great location, you should stay here. The food was excellent and the service was superb and very friendly. The villa has many courtyards with cosy sitting rooms, a lovely pool and charming outdoor area for eating. Our room had a staircase which went up to a rooftop terrace which was great for relaxing and eating breakfast. There even is a small pool up on the terrace. This is an understated but elegant small hotel. I would not stay here if you are looking for a spanking new hotel with modern furnishings. This is a hotel for people who like to stay in hotels with the personality of the country you are visiting. I would highly recommend La Villa des Orangers.

Room Tip: choose a room that connects to the rooftop terrace and eat breakfast there.
