“Fantastic hotel and staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

Just got back from a family holiday with a toddler and a baby and have to say it was one of the best holidays we've ever had thanks mainly to the lovely venue and amazing staff at the Tikida Gardens. Read some of the reviews before we went and seeing the ones giving the hotel a 3 star status is unfair - I've stayed in lots of 5* hotels all over the world and can deffo say this one deserves 4*.
beautiful gardens and public areas, lovely pool, lots of space outside for loungers and seats. Absolutely spotless. It also has 4 tennis courts, 2 petanque courts, beach volley ball court, badminton, handball court and little mini golf. The sports areas are all spread out behind the garden beyond the pool so lovely and secluded. Table tennis for kids and adults too.
Food choice was great - don't know how anyone could complain but I do like lots of fresh fruits, veg and salads which there was tons of. Something different everyday.
Our room was big, cool and beautifully laid out.
The staff, from the kids club girls, to the "animation" team, waiters, kitchen staff, cleaning staff, gardeners - all friendly, professional warm and incredibly sweet with the kids. Couldn't do enough for us. The evening entertainment was a bit on the cheesy side but kids loved it and it's not compulsory to go - stay in the bar, or up by the library and relax, or go into Marrakech medina.
Smoking is allowed in public areas so we didn't stay in the main bar a night which was a shame, too smokey but that's the same everywhere in Marrakech.
Only slight complaint was to do with getting into the town itself - shuttle bus didn't drop far enough or late enough in which leaves people, particularly those with kids, at the mercy of taxi drivers who are, to a man, awful. Charging 100-150 Dirham for a 5 min ride ( locals would be paying 10-20) but as you have to barter with them there's not much to be done. They just refuse to take you and you're stuck a couple of miles out of the city in an area which you wouldn't walk through at night especially. Total rip off. The front desk were NOT interested in helping with the taxis - in fact I was told 150 dirham was a fair price by one receptionist, when another guest managed to get a ride for 30. Really wish the hotel would either run a bus later or make an agreement with drivers that if they want to pick up from the hotel then guests pay a fair set price. Spoke to other guests about the taxis and we agreed that it was the only thing souring the holiday - no-one likes to think that they're being taken for a mug!

Just returned from a great holiday at the Riu Tikida Garden . After reading the reviews we were a little worried BUT can honestly say the best holiday ever
Hotel lovely....our room(ground floor) clean, large, airy and modern! Fresh towels when ever you wanted, lots of hot water etc etc .food was fantastic! My husband and son are both veery fussy eaters yet my hubby has never eaten so much!! Great choice,if you can't find anything here to eat you shouldn't be going on holiday! I'm a veggi and loved the salads, pasta, couscous ,cheese ,fruit, yogurts, sweet cakes...fresh bread every sitting, with Danish pasties to die for. Beautiful gardens (with some very special creatures living there which made our holiday....which I'll leave for you to find:0) lots of sun beds, and you can join in the yoga, volleyball, table tennis ,cooking classes, tennis, games OR sunbathe. Sadly the pool was too cold for me BUT my 13 year old and many others did swin in it every day.I had a scrub and massage in the spa which was a nice start to my hols. All the staff friendly and helpful .nothing was EVER to much trouble
Marrakech is a MUST....we took the Thomson souk trip(Which gives you a good trip/and a idea of whats what)then when back in twice as we loved it so much(go at least twice day/ night)haggling is a must, just be respectful of them.
But please DON'T encourage the snake charmers or the guys with the monkeys .... It's not nice and not necessary :(
Would we go back? You bet!

Marrakech was brilliant! We had a perfect holiday. The Tikida Garden Hotel was a clean and friendly oasis after a morning exploring the vibrant medieval town.

My old school friend and I chose this hotel because of the gardens and it was a tropical delight to wake and hear the chattering and warbling of unfamiliar birds.

I’m a vegetarian and although I do cook Moroccan food at home I wasn’t sure what the hotel might supply for non meat eaters. The first evening I mentioned this to one of the waiters and straight away he went off to get the Head Chef. Youssef was very considerate. I have never had such good service. He took the time to show me what was available and would have made something special for me if I wasn’t content. As it was there was plenty for me for the four nights we were there (Moroccan and European). Every morning and evening he came to check I was happy. This wasn’t special service for me as I saw him assisting other people too. A big thank you to Youssef.

Our highlights of Marrakech were the Majorelle Gardens – small but beautiful with a good café and stylish, if expensive, souvenir shop. The Ben Youssef Madrasa (café at the next door Museum), the Badi Palace (try the Kozycafe near by), the Jemaa el-Fnaa at evening time and of course the markets! The stall holders can be a bit scary if you haven’t experienced this kind of haggling before but the people are friendly and will willing direct you if you get lost in the market maze.

The hotel bus doesn’t go to the Medina (old town). The taxis from the hotel charge 100dh but you can easily get a taxi back for 50dh or less.

Change your money when you arrive at the airport (it’s hard to get in the UK) but keep your receipt to change it back without paying commission – although you’ll need minimum143dh to do this.

We booked a taxi before we left but you can easily get a taxi at the airport for 200dh. We flew from Stansted with Easyjet.

Would I return to this hotel? Definitely.

Room Tip: We just asked for a quiet room and that's what we received.

Just enjoyed a great holiday at the Riu Tikida Garden. Four star plus.

The gardens are lovely; the facilities excellent; the staff extremely helpful and very friendly. Reception staff were particularly helpful - thank you Saddik. There were plenty of activities for those who want to join- classes as well as the sports facilities - but these were not 'in your face'. Nicely offered but no hassle if all you want to do is lie around the pool and read. Plenty of sunbeds even though there is a bit of a tradition of early rising and towel ownership.

The bedrooms were well appointed and comfortable - if you like a harder mattress. Only one of us does.

The food was good and plentiful. We went 'all inclusive' and had read that the food was a bit samey. We disagree. You would only eat the same things if you choose the same things. The buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner were all laid out in a similar way for each meal but there was plenty of variety to choose. The 1001 traditional Moroccan restaurant had to be booked in advance but we booked three times in 11 nights and there was no problem getting in. This restaurant is closed Mondays though.

The only negatives- very minor points - was the temperature in the outside pool [but in March the indoor heated pool was free]; and the coffee. We love a good coffee at breakfast and this was just passable.

The shuttle bus into town is good and, for those who want to stay into the evening, a taxi back to the hotel is only 5 euro [if you agree in advance with the driver].

The medina, souks and square were lively and fun. We had read such a lot of negative reviews about hassling, being given wrong directions to 'trick' you and dangerous people. Not when we were there! Everyone we met was kind and friendly. We got lost a few times and were always helped back to where we needed to be. The bargaining is part of the fun and the 'hassling' was minor compared to Sri Lanka or Kenya. We also walked around the area outside the hotel, including the little berber street market. Never once felt hassled or threatened.

We visited the Ourika valley, organised from reception and recommended by Saddik. An excellent trip in to a beautiful valley in the Atlas Mountains. The day cost about 25 euro each plus the cost of lunch and tips for the berber villagers and Argan Oil co-operative women. The berber market was a riot of colour and noise - very exciting.

Room Tip: Pay a little more for an upstairs room

Stayed here with a friend in March. This was my first 'all inclusive' package holiday so a bit apprehensive initially. But what a great hotel in such a ovely garden setting! Everything watched over 24/7 by the General Manager (Pablo) who really understands what great customer service should be. All the staff were fantastic. Our standard room was spacious, the beds very comfortable and we had a small balcony overlooking the garden and woke up every morning to the sound of birds singing - perfect. The food was really, really good (lots of choice) and the wine (especially the 'red') were very drinkable. Amazing value. I would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: A south facing room with the early - late evening sun is perfect accompaniment for a gin and tonic!

This hotel is fabulous. The rooms are basic but you get what you pay for and this isn't and expensive hotel. All the rooms have a fridge and safe which is free. The facilities are brilliant catering for tennis, badminton, volley ball and plenty more. The drinks are proper measures and even cocktails are free. The wine is also very good quality. The food is excellent all day with so much choice. I found the bed fine but the call to prayer does wake you up - what else can you expect in Morocco. The staff are all so polite and helpful. Well done team.

just got back after a week. On arrival a drink and a smile and a very quick check in. The room was basic and roomy. A fridge, but empty perhaps we have to fill that. Very clean and the grounds tidy. Pool a bit too cold but nice and big, but they do have an in door that you do have to pay for at set times but it is free. Staff are very good and friendly, animation team give it a go at night they do try their best, "bless them". The only point I think they could improve on is the food, its ok but I feel it could be better. But do have the chicken in the resturant , you have to book. VERY NICE and you will get lost in the Souks so that care. All in all not a bad hotel.
