“good value, great service, a great retreat from the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

Had a superb week at Tikida Garden. Marrakech is a great city, but it is good to have your own oasis to escape to when it all gets a bit too much! The hotel was spotless (slightly dated but clean and pleasant), the food good, varied and plentiful, and the service really friendly and helpful. Book the 'Moroccan' restaurant for a treat. The pool was pleasant and our room large and clean. Location wise, it's a short taxi ride to the city (we never managed to get on the free shuttle bus as people forgot how to queue!). Our only small gripe was the smokiness in the main bar; perhaps the management could think about providing a separate smoking area?

“What more can I say?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

Most of what you read on these pages is accurate (in my opinion!)

We've just returned from a week's winter golf ( 4 of us) We all would go back, without hesitation.

The hotels grounds are immaculate. The staff make the place. The rooms are well maintained, the beds are comfortable. It's not quite five star, but neither was the price - fantastic value for money. In feb, cold first thing, but by 10.30 it was warm enough to sunbathe.

The rare negatives in reviews revolve around the following:

Food - At all meal times there is a huge choice. Breakfast never changed - a wide choice of fresh fruit, juices, cereals, breads, pastries, continental, cooked (eggs every way you want and sausages). We only ate lunch twice - 3/4 cooked dishes, fresh pizza, and an abundance of salads- really tasty. The evening meals were OK - always one Tagine dish, and then 3/4 others with different vegetables and salads. We ate in the moroccan restaurant twice - what tagine do you want - lamb, chicken, fish,or vegetarian. The side dishes and salads were delicious.

Bars - beer pretty tasteless, spirits and cocktails very variable, but the staff will serve with a heavier hand if you ask. Wine is drinkable, I've tasted worse.

Smoking - we feared the worst, but it was never as bad as some have suggested. The bar was only busy around 8-9 pm and we tended to eat then. By the time we went back, most had gone to their rooms. Nothing like the smoky pubs I remember from my youth! Just be careful who you sit next to!

I will review the golf courses separately. We would play them all again, but in order, our ranking would be Amelkis, Al Maaden, Royal, then Palmeraie.

Night market on a Saturday night - so much hassle around the food stands that we didn't eat there and went back to the hotel - not our idea of fun. In comparison the souks were very tame, and good fun.

“Value for Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

This was a last minute winter break and we found this hotel a great base to see the sights of Marrakech and surrounds. All inclusive, it was very good value for money as the rooms were comfortable and clean, the food/drink was fresh and plentiful, the staff were cheerful and efficient and the grounds/swimming pool were lovely. Although the dining room is non smoking, be aware that the main lounge is not and gets very smoky. The other lounge is the entertainment area and so if you like a quiet drink in clean air it is a bit difficult. We only went to see the Senegal drummers (who were very good) so cannot comment on the other entertainment.
If you are a couple then make use of the orangerie area off the main dining room. This is set up with tables for two and the waiters such as Nourradine look after you very well.
Bathrooms could do with an update (the separate toilet is very pokey) but there is loads of hot water.
The 1001 nights restaurant does give you a tangine choice but the starters and desserts are not so different from the main restaurant. They could do more to make it special.
My wife did visit the spa and she commented that the ambience was not great and the staff less friendly than elsewhere though the massage was fine.

Room Tip: If you are non smokers make sure you say as there is a complete non smoking block and if you want a...

“Riu Tikida Garden”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

This is good family hotel, probably not the best place to stay if you are a young couple as its more family orientated. I cant fault this hotel it's fantastic. It's one of the cleanest places we have stayed in. The food is buffet style or A La Carte Menu and theres a big choice. The staff are friendly and very helpful the entertainment staff are especially good. Theres lots to do. The hotel is 10 minutes from the centre of Marrakech and there is a free shuttle service into town. The only bad thing I can say about this place is that the outdoor pool wasnt heated and even in 30 degree sun it was still freezing cold. I would definatly recommend a stay here.

“Fantastic hotel.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

On arrival the staff were nice to us and gave us a drink. The rooms were nice and cosy with aircon to make the room cool. There was a swimming pool which you could cool down. The restaurants were really good, all of the food we had in the restaurants were good. Beds were comfortable so it was a good night sleep. Lots of plants are greenery which make the view of the building look good.
