“A lovely hotel with friendly helpful service and delicious food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2010

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The smallness of the room was well compensated for by a beautiful private rooftop terrace complete with plants and lanterns. We ate in both restaurants and had delicious food in both with really helpful and friendly service.Front desk staff were charming and very helpful. Added bonus is the delightful "country club"were we relaxed every afternoon. A free taxi service takes you about 15 minutes away to a delightful villa with huge pool which is exclusive to guests.Delicious lunches served under trees on the courtyard. We also had a very good massage in the atmospheric spa in the basement of the hotel. This hotel is highly recommended and when we return to Marrakech this is the place to stay!

We have stayed at La Maison Arabe several times over the years and each time we return there have been new additions and surprises. Originally a private home it has been continually enlarged and expanded - since our last visit 7 years ago an addition with a large heated pool, restaurant with terrace over looking the pool, new very well appointed rooms have appeared. Always well staffed with friendly and well trained people, they have added even more. The Spa is world class according to my wife who has visited them all over the world.
The hotel is hidden from the busy streets and yet is only a minute walk to the covered souk/market.
One outstanding offering is their fabulous garden compound reached by their own car service about 15 minutes away in the palm gardens on the outskirts of the town. This facility includes a beautifully maintained garden growing vegetables for their restaurants, plants palms and fig trees, a huge outdoor pool with open cabanas. There is a fig tree shaded garden restaurant, and a tent-like pavilion for evening parties {we had our wedding reception there years ago}. The main building has a large reception area, and on the second floor their own cooking school. A wonderful way to relax after visits to the inner city of Marrakech.
All meals were excellent at the main hotel and the gardens.
This trip we returned with our 3 children and two nannies. The children were adopted by the staff and enjoyed their stay. We also spent a day at the Garden Pavilion where they were fee to chase the kittens and roan inside the walled gardens.
It really doesn't get any better than this in Marrakech.

This hotel was just beautiful, beautifully decorated, I was overwelmed with the sights [sounds & smells]. We had the best meal on our trip (we were in Rome & Madrid, so we ate very well!) here too. The Lamb "tagine" was soooooo good, .... I don't know how to make it at home.

Stayed 2 nights in this lovely place that is based around a traditional riad but carefully and tastefully modernised so offers a number of addtional hotel services without loosing its authentic Morrocan feel. Everything was excellent and it was probably the best hotel we have stayed at anywhere. We stayed in a suite in the old part of the building which was spacious, extremely comfortable and interestingly laid out around its own mini courtyard. The jazz / piano bar adds an extra dimension where we happily spent one evening being entertained by the pianist and the lively bar staff. The Morrocan Restaurant is superb - the food, the service and the decor and is worth a visit even if you don't stay at the hotel. The same is true of the cookery school which we did in the lovely setting of the hotel's country club where we learnt to cook a delicious chicken, olive and lemon tangine which we then ate in the delightful Berber tent in the grounds. The class is suitable for any level of cook from beginner to the more experienced as the cooks and translator are very friendly and offer as much help as you want. Service throughout our stay was outstanding. We will definitely return when we can.

We decided to stay at La Maison Arabe following quite a bit of web research. We decided we wanted to stay at somewhere larger then the typical Riad but smaller then a full blown hotel. La Maison Arabe fitted the bill perfectly, both in terms of size (around 30 rooms/suites in total) and facilities (Spa, restaurants, country club, cooking school etc). We had a fantastic break and would highly recommend this boutique hotel.

Accommodation - we booked a junior suite (patio side) and were upgraded on arrival to the slightly more expensive garden sided junior suite.

We stayed in the Nada suite and I would recommend you look at the accommodation section on La Maison Arabe's website as the pictures are a true representation of the rooms.

Our room was very spacious and comfortable with 2 large plasma TV's and a lovely balcony overlooking the pool. The bed was firm and comfortable and the hotel was very efficient at responding to our request to replace the oversized pillows supplied with slightly smaller ones.

The bathroom was more than adequate with a separate shower/bath and a large and powerful shower head.

There is also free WiFi throughout the hotel.

It is about a 10/15 minute walk to the main square/Souk so during the day it is possible to get around on foot.

Finally, be aware that there is a local mosque nearby which does its 1st call-to-prayer at 4am (!) - that if nothing else makes you fully aware that you are in Marrekech!

Country Club - one of the attractions for us was the use of the hotel's country club on the outskirts of the city. Although there is a pool in the hotel, the country club gives it something extra - it allowed us to spend a day relaxing by its pool and is the perfect opposite to the hustle and bustle of Marakkech. The weather in early October was still warm enough for us to swim in the pool and we really enjoyed the 4 or 5 hours we spent there. The hotel runs a regular free shuttle to/from the country club.

Spa - the spa seems newly refurbished although offered a relatively small range of treatments. While my wife and I both had treatments which we enjoyed, I found it quite expensive and with hindsight should have booked the well-rated "Les Bains de Marrakech" in advance (- we tried to book on arrival but they were fully booked...).

Cooking School - the on-site cooking school was another reason for us booking this hotel. My wife enjoys cooking and spent a great afternoon learning about Moroccan cooking.

Food/drink - While not cheap, the food and drink was top notch and nothing is too much trouble ( - for example, they smiled and quickly accommodated my wife's lunch request for a tuna sandwich without bread!). We ate at the hotel's restaurant on our final night and found the food to be very good, although the service on that evening was not perfect. There is also a very chilled jazz bar for pre-dinner drinks.

Staff - all staff that we came into contact with were extremely helpful and pleasant. Indeed this is probably this factor that made our stay at La Maison Arabe so enjoyable and why we have given it 5-stars in this review.

Conclusion - Marrakech is a fantastic location for a short break from the UK and La Maison Arabe is the perfect place to base yourself. There are undoubtedly flashier places to stay in this city (both La Mamoumia and Naoura Barriiere are within a 10 minute walk of La Maison Arabe) but for a cosy yet luxurious stay, I don't think you will go wrong with this hotel.

3 of the most pleasant nights spent in Marrakech where I have stayed numerous times at other hotels and resorts; my first stay at La Maison Arabe will not be my last. After busy days sightseeing and shopping, coming back to the room was like coming "home". The excellent management and friendly staff always make guests feel welcome and cared for; the public rooms feel cozy and intimate, the food is terrific, and Rachid the bartender concocts some amazing non-alcoholic libations. Other hotels may be more extravagant and showy but La Maison Arabe provides understated elegance and comfort on every level. I look forward to a return visit.
