“Low key luxury”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2010

We decided to stay at La Maison Arabe following quite a bit of web research. We decided we wanted to stay at somewhere larger then the typical Riad but smaller then a full blown hotel. La Maison Arabe fitted the bill perfectly, both in terms of size (around 30 rooms/suites in total) and facilities (Spa, restaurants, country club, cooking school etc). We had a fantastic break and would highly recommend this boutique hotel.

Accommodation - we booked a junior suite (patio side) and were upgraded on arrival to the slightly more expensive garden sided junior suite.

We stayed in the Nada suite and I would recommend you look at the accommodation section on La Maison Arabe's website as the pictures are a true representation of the rooms.

Our room was very spacious and comfortable with 2 large plasma TV's and a lovely balcony overlooking the pool. The bed was firm and comfortable and the hotel was very efficient at responding to our request to replace the oversized pillows supplied with slightly smaller ones.

The bathroom was more than adequate with a separate shower/bath and a large and powerful shower head.

There is also free WiFi throughout the hotel.

It is about a 10/15 minute walk to the main square/Souk so during the day it is possible to get around on foot.

Finally, be aware that there is a local mosque nearby which does its 1st call-to-prayer at 4am (!) - that if nothing else makes you fully aware that you are in Marrekech!

Country Club - one of the attractions for us was the use of the hotel's country club on the outskirts of the city. Although there is a pool in the hotel, the country club gives it something extra - it allowed us to spend a day relaxing by its pool and is the perfect opposite to the hustle and bustle of Marakkech. The weather in early October was still warm enough for us to swim in the pool and we really enjoyed the 4 or 5 hours we spent there. The hotel runs a regular free shuttle to/from the country club.

Spa - the spa seems newly refurbished although offered a relatively small range of treatments. While my wife and I both had treatments which we enjoyed, I found it quite expensive and with hindsight should have booked the well-rated "Les Bains de Marrakech" in advance (- we tried to book on arrival but they were fully booked...).

Cooking School - the on-site cooking school was another reason for us booking this hotel. My wife enjoys cooking and spent a great afternoon learning about Moroccan cooking.

Food/drink - While not cheap, the food and drink was top notch and nothing is too much trouble ( - for example, they smiled and quickly accommodated my wife's lunch request for a tuna sandwich without bread!). We ate at the hotel's restaurant on our final night and found the food to be very good, although the service on that evening was not perfect. There is also a very chilled jazz bar for pre-dinner drinks.

Staff - all staff that we came into contact with were extremely helpful and pleasant. Indeed this is probably this factor that made our stay at La Maison Arabe so enjoyable and why we have given it 5-stars in this review.

Conclusion - Marrakech is a fantastic location for a short break from the UK and La Maison Arabe is the perfect place to base yourself. There are undoubtedly flashier places to stay in this city (both La Mamoumia and Naoura Barriiere are within a 10 minute walk of La Maison Arabe) but for a cosy yet luxurious stay, I don't think you will go wrong with this hotel.

3 of the most pleasant nights spent in Marrakech where I have stayed numerous times at other hotels and resorts; my first stay at La Maison Arabe will not be my last. After busy days sightseeing and shopping, coming back to the room was like coming "home". The excellent management and friendly staff always make guests feel welcome and cared for; the public rooms feel cozy and intimate, the food is terrific, and Rachid the bartender concocts some amazing non-alcoholic libations. Other hotels may be more extravagant and showy but La Maison Arabe provides understated elegance and comfort on every level. I look forward to a return visit.

We stayed at this amazing hotel for a week and having stayed in several hotels across the world in the past, there is nothing I can fault about La Maison Arabe. It was clean, comfortable, the staff were very friendly and attentive – they have clearly been trained very well. It was wonderful waking up every day to such beauty, every where you look, there is details in the way of carvings, the quality of the décor, the lighting etc.

There is also a lovely swimming pool with a private terraced area with sunbeds for sunbathing or relaxing with complimentary towels.
The Spa is heaven and once you have had your treatment, there is an area in which you can relax for as long as you want whilst listening to soothing Moroccan music.

Breakfast consits of pastries, pancakes, fresh fruit etc. We ate at the restaurant near the pool and I was surprised by how delicious and incredibly tasty the food was. It was really really good!! Even the club sandwich was the best I have ever had. Please note, a 10% service charge will be added on top of anything extra you have at the hotel.

In terms of location, its perfect: only a 10-15 minute walk into the main square or you can take a taxi for about 20-30 Dirham.

I have to say that staying at this hotel was actually one of the highlights of my trip because I felt I was getting a real taste of Morocco without even leaving the hotel! I loved everything about it and I would definitely stay there again.

This is my second time at La Maison Arabe - and I am sure I'll keep coming back. This time I experienced the next wing they added which makes a huge difference. They had added a swimming pool in the hotel in town so you have a choice - you can swim after walking through the medina shopping or you can spend your day at the country club a short ride away from town on their free shuttle service. Their Trois Saveurs restaurant is fabulous...you can get traditional Moroccan food (the Pidgeon pastilla is exquisite) and also thai and international dishes for those who are tired of tagine and couscous every day. One reviewer mentioned the grand marnier souffle - the lemon one with ice cream inside wasn't too shabby either! YUMMY! The Hammam is gorgeous and the services fantastic. The location is great since you are right in town and can walk from their shopping. I can't wait to go back!!

We didn't actually stay here, but after using the spa and restaurant, certainly wished that we had! I had the Royal Hammam and it was a lovely experience. The spa is beautifully decorated and the staff were lovely. After the hammam, we had mint tea by the pool, and again it was lovely. The tea came with a small selection of Morrocan biscuits that were delicious. The whole place looks exquisite. Great location as well, considering its so close to the Old Square, its amazing how peaceful it is. If we ever come back to Marrakech, we will definitely stay here.

We had not expected to be here! I had booked the Royal Suite at nearby Riad Kniza but our reservation for five nights had got lost between their e-mail system and their hard copy desk diary.Kamal the owner/manage offered us a "standard" room/suite at no charge for the day/night of our arrival and because he was full, as recompense booked us into La Maison Arab and paid room costs for half our remaining four nights stay. The suite on the first floor with terrace overlooking the pool was spacious and very comfortable. For 350Dh /night they promptly supplied a spare bed for our son who joined us later.

We ate "Moroccan" once. The food was good and service also but it was far too expensive for what it was. Including 10% charged for service our meal for three with wine was just under 1900Dh. The other restaurant by the pool was far better value. Breakfast was satisfactory without being outstanding. The freshly squeezed orange juice and grapefruit juice dispensers were so loaded with ice that the juices were heavily diluted and their true flavours lost. Eggs ordered at table were always cooked as requested. No hard cheeses were offered until requested. Coffee was full of flavour and very strong and served in insulated flasks...perfect.

Our room was serviced twice daily by courteous staff. It was a pity that our room service ordered breakfast [noted by staff the night before our very early departure] did not come as specified.

We were as above looking forward to a Riad. This is a hotel in a Medina full of riads. The authentic Moroccan experience is therefore somewhat lost. You pays your money and takes your choice. Our choice was Riad Kniza but then I didn`t pay all the money.
