“You get what you pay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2010

We were nervous after reading the reviews but pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful - the room was perfectly adequate although a bit jaded - it needs upgrading but the beds were comfortable, sheets were clean and we had not paid a fortune for the bed and breakfast - there was plenty of food for the breakfast , waiters were helpful and it was a pleasant atmosphere in the dining room. It would be rated probably a 2 star in Europe though in Morroccan standards it would be about a 6star. What you have to remember is you are in a third world country - things are different.

It makes me bloody angry that after reading all these bad reviews on this hotel the holiday companies do nothing and carry on advertising this [--]. This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. It may have been 4* 20 or so years ago, but now it barely makes 2*. Cracks in bathroom sink, bath pitted and lacklustre, grouting on tiles mouldy, old and new blood stains on mattress protector. Tried to get hotel booking slip returned from reception after refusing 2 rooms so that we could contact holiday rep but was refused. Pool and garden beautiful but the hotel, rooms, food and a lot of the staff were like a mixture of Fawlty Towers, Alcatraz and a Refugee Camp all rolled into one on a really bad day. Avoid at all costs.

Having read other reviews on this hotel, we were slightly apprehensive about staying there. However, we needn't have been. The staff were friendly and hospitable (helped I think by attempting the odd word of Arabic), the food was simple, but tasty, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Whilst it is true that the rooms and the decor in parts of the hotel is slightly tired and well-overdue a re-vamp, the details in the reception area are stunning! Beautiful decor and faded grandeur abound. It is a bit away from the hustle and bustle of the medina, but we were grateful for that. It's straightforward to walk to the medina and the souks, or to get a bus or taxi, adn it's quite nice to escape the sheer intensity of it all at the end of a tiring day of exploring and haggling! All in all this is a basic but perfectly serviceable hotel, if all you want is somewhere to lay your head at the end of the day!

We travelled independantly to Marrakech so we managed to book flights and hotel Amine very cheaply... Firstly on arrival at Marrakech , Menara airport is very new , clean and bright. Outside are taxis (from airport to hotel should be 100 dihrams) . Marrakech was very much more "up together" than we expected, rose beds and beautiful architecture all the way into the city, (particularly the Opera house and railway station were stunning and worth a visit).
We had an open mind re the hotel after reading various critical reviews, on arrival the hotel seemed a little worn but not at all bad, the guy on reception was very friendly and helpful as were the staff at the snack bar by the pool.
Our room was absolutely fine we had no complaints at all, plenty of storage space , clean bedding and bathroom which included a bidet, plenty of hot water and a balcony overlooking the gardens and pool ... We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and the breakfast was continental and once again we had no complaints, there were boiled eggs, tons of various croissants, jams, butter, cereal, yoghurt, fruit and a lady making pancakes, to drink there was tea, coffee and fruit juice... everything was clean and plentiful.
The Amine is not a four star hotel by most European standards but would be a three star, we have paid a lot more for a lot less in the UK so were pleasantly suprised. The Amine is situated by the main road where buses and taxis will take you to the "square" ..3.5 dhirams by bus and around 30 by cab.
If you go to Marrakech and the Hotel Amine and base them on standards you may have found in Spain then you may be dissapointed, go with an open mind, enjoy the culture, the people and the beautiful architecture, you will be hassled in the square , theres no doubt about that ! but just say no thank you and walk away, dont forget everyone has to make a living somehow !! Would i go back ??? For what we paid try and stop me !!

food in restaurant was very poor indeed ,and all waiters just stood and stared at you the whole time you were there, certainly not 4 star, would scrape a 2 star anywhere in Europe, however the pool area was very nice and clean, very far out of main area, and had to haggle constantly with taxi drivers for fare price, would not recomend women to go Marrakesh on their own, felt very intimidated the whole time.

we stayed here for a week, and the staff were not helpful, unless you speak french. the maids kept on coming in without knocking. too many dodgy looks. we asked for a kettle, or even some hot water, they didnt give it too us. i was 21 at the time, not a good place for young couples. if you go over there.. book all inclusive. was expecting more for a 4 star. food was not food. but the swimming pool area was good.

I was worried about going to the amine after reading the reviews but we are the kind of people that judge things as we see them and not others. OK so the hotel its self is basic but nice and clean, it could really do with an update but you get what you pay for. The rep amin is freindly and helpful. the staff are always keen to help. the day after we arrived my partner was not very well the porter went to the pharmacy for us to get something to help with his stomach. You do not have to tip but we believe in giving to those that deserve it and the staff there truely do. they bend over backwards and go out of there way too help you. if you want a drink no need to go out your room just pick up the phone and one will be brought to you. marrakesh its self is a lovely place, we went to for only 4 days to see if it was suitable for our children as one is disabled although I would not recommend it currently for a young family as there is not much for children too do I am sure in a few more years there will be more for children around marrakesh. on the down side it would of been better if the bar was open later after a long walk back from the souk's to sit at the bar and have a few drinks would be good. I am sure that it would be open later in the high season but we only went for a few days break. would also be good if the pool was heated as there was no way on earth I was getting in that cold frezzing water lol but it was funny waiting to see who dared to go in
