“Good For the Money”

Hotel Ali

OK ,this aint no fancy place,but for the money it wasnt half bad.
The water was hot and the bed comfortable and even though it is shabby it was convenient to everything of interest and not like a lot of the tourist hotels which seem to be on the outskirts of the city. I agree with a previous reviewer go b+b and dont opt for the evening meal.It was noisy because of its location but thats the price you pay for being smack bang in the middle of things;

“Great budget accommodation”

Hotel Ali

Excellent accommodation for the budget conscious traveler. I stayed at the Hotel Ali for 5 nights. It is not 5 star but you are not paying 5 star prices so anyone who complains you are in the wrong hotel! The breakfast was great - freshly made omelets and crepes with orange juice and baked rolls with butter and apricot jam. Definitely filled you up until lunch time. I was pleasantly surprised that the rooms were cleaned on a daily basis. Each time I returned to my room the bathroom and toilet had been cleaned and the floors wiped etc Being a clean freak I was impressed by this considering it is not a 5 star hotel. The location is fabulous and the proximity itself is of great value alone. If you are spending a lot of time in the medina and browsing the souks of which you need a few days at least, it is so convenient to be able to nip back to your hotel room, even if it is just to use a 'clean toilet', drop off any shopping or rest a while before going out again. The staff were helpful and pleasant, despite being busy. I would recommend this hotel for anyone who likes to be right in the middle of the action, who is looking for basic, clean accommodation.

“Disgusting”

Hotel Ali

I lasted about three hours in the Hotel Ali, and most of that was spent locating alternative accommodation and forfeiting two days of prepaid accommodation at the Hotel Ali. Yes, the hotel's position in the Medina is excellent, however...it is dark and dingy, parts of it are under 'reconstruction', including the kitchen/restaurent so there's lots of construction noise, the room I was assigned didn't lock or offer any security at all, it smelt horrible, the toilet didn't flush and I walked past an open door (three doors from my unlockable room) to see intravenous drug use on display. I've travelled all over the world and never felt so unsafe or so revolted by a hotel.
