“Lovely experience and well recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2011

We were originally scheduled to go to the Aqua Fun Club and it was with trepidation - and the fact that Ryan Air and the travel agents confirmed we would lose money if we didnt take the option of the Albatros Club. So we arrived having been assured by Nadiya, one of the Directors, being offered a superior room and having enjoyed a swift and free transfer offered by the hotel.

Receptionists are helpful, despite the poor reviews but they are much more accustomed to conversing in French.... That is not a criticism its just amazing that Brits always feel they should be understood immediately as of right. It did stretch my O level French but so what!

We had a lovely room in Al Riad, part of the All inclusive package and overlooking the pool. Yes, agreed it was a bit noisy with music and the enthusiastic annimateurs who encouraged gym, bingo, petanque etc... which we didnt subscribe to cos it was too hot! But the music did not continue until late into the night so it was hardly a case of staying on top of a nightclub.

The pool was cleaned from early in the morning and I can only say, having been in it - it was spotless and safe.

The downside to the pool experience is in lazy and greedy tourists who reserved the limited sunbeds and buzzed off into town - I think there has been a couple of reviews to that effect... and if you are the culprit who came back to find your blue towels and magazines missing - it was me who shifted them.. after 4 hours of waiting - I noticed this again the next morning when white towels saved two seats. By then others had noticed - I have no qualms in shifting towels it is so selfish... I have written to one of the directors to ask them to put in place sanctions against this - different if youre off to have some lunch or snack but more than one hour absence is downright selfish. Being so far from the coast, the pool is a vital part of the holiday and to be honest other tourists doing this put more of a dampener to the holiday than anything else.

We did not experience being turned away from the other pool whilst we were sunbathing or using it but we knew that the pool bars and asiatic/mediterranean restaurants around that pool were for paying guests... so as long as you paid, you could use them. The moroccan tajine was a lovely experience and excellent food... very rich though for delicate tums!

I think the hotel is only newly accommodating the all inclusive and so it has some things to learn. The Columbus bar did run out of things and yes, two men were usually loitering around the till whilst a very nice and very busy woman did all the work... but she was very good, despite my pidgeon French and her limited English. In Le Charlot, the other all inclusive bar, there were mixed abilities for communicating in English and it was funny to some extent to see what you ended up with but what you did get was branded soft drinks and mixers and good quality spirits and beer so although there may be a wait, it was worth waiting for.

the brasserie where all inclusive guests ate had a good hot selection, always two fish and two meat dishes, usually two rice and sometimes mashed potato and always one or two vegetable and/or pasta. It was difficult to know what was on the hotplate and I mentioned this to the chef one lunchtime and by the next day. There were little plastic and clearly written signs in place. The drinks - rose and red wine - to be recommended - were available as well as three juices, coffee and tea as well as soft drinks and water. The bread rolls did get a bit dry by the evening but there was always a good selection of other choices, croissants etc. So, as far as we were concerned, the food was fine and supplemented well by the pasta, pizza, chips and burgers at snack times and in the evening offered a relaxed alternative. fabulous omelettes and galette in the morning too!

The rooms were cleaned every day. The quality of our room was very good, probably a good 4 star, spotlessly clean and lovely idea of fruit and petit fours on arrival... rose petals on the bed on our last day.

I hope people remembered that it is customary to tip the housekeeper and we tipped also people who had been helpful to us during the stay. Our moroccan lady was really nice, friendly and helpful - in French.

so all in all, we enjoyed our stay, walking into the medina a couple of times was a good experience, I would prefer to be closer to the coast to take advantage of beachwalking and so this has been a different experience but worthwhile.

I would advise though that if you are very particular about your holiday and always want to speak and be understood in English - then you need to think about what that costs - this was a very good value option. we paid under £700 for two of us all inclusive for a week. I cannot complain about anything about the hotel on that basis.

I had such a brilliant time the weather was 41 degrees but its was bearable. The hotel staff were great, they tended to your every need. I had a wonderful time, the hotel facilities are great and the rooms are very big. I'm booking again for the same hotel! The hotel also had different entertainment each night and I had a laugh with the staff. This hotel is definitely the one to stay in!

Well Where can I start on this hotel. Our stuff got nicked from our rooms. The food gave us stomach problems the whole time we was there. I would rate this hotel 1 star. Don't be deceived by the pool, it was dirty and unhygienic. The bathroom suite was a disgrace. There was old tiles broken everywhere the pool area, bathroom, toilets and the lobby. How can anyone sleep in that hot weather with their air conditioning not working. And last but not least their customer service was atrocious, they are such abrupt people and very rude especially the general manager.

The service we received at the reception was friendly and we weren't kept waiting at all
We got most of our information from our porter at the hotel he advised us were to eat and drink as we were all inclusive guests,
The pool areas were very populated and there were not enough beds to sunbath on many were taken by towels placed on the beds and hardly used, even from about 7.30am there were many guests placing towels on beds and then going off for breakfast or a day trip on some occasions
The hotel fascilities were fine once you got to find out what was going on and there was plenty to do including gym classes at the pool, these were not advertised or told all word of mouth, the hotel is about 25 minutes walk to the square and taxi prices varied from 5dhr up, the pool by le charliot bar was the best i thought it was much friendlier and the bar staff seemed happy to serve drinks unlike the other bar columbus which the staff never seemed to have the drink you asked for as an all inclusive guest but did have if you paid. the rooms were great and were clean

Room Tip: room had all we needed

WE had originally booked the Pickalbatross Aqua Funa Club in Marrakech, and it was only after arriving at the gates that we found out it had not been opened i.e. it was still under construction. The security guard at the gate didnt let us in, obviously, so it was up to resort hoppa, who picked us up, to figure out what to do. No explanation from the hotel or our travel agent (Travelbubble). Resort Hoppa took us to the Royal Mirage and got us checked in. (the Royal Mirage property consists of CLub Albatross and Albatross Garden as well, and it was difficult to see where one ended and the other began). Given that we were expecting water slides, 10 pools and 6 restaurants, this complex was a bit of a disappointment. There were 2 pools altogether, and we werent even sure whether we were allowed to use both, as the nicer one seemed to belong to CLub Albatross. But no one told us anything about the properties.

When we first arrived, the staff at the Royal Mirage didnt even bother to explain what was happening, or apologise that we werent in the hotel we booked or even say hello. The guide from resort hoppa asked us to take a seat in the Lobby, and asked for drinks for us, which when arrived was 2 glasses of mint tea for 3 people. The resort hoppa representative then called us to the reception and said they would check us in. None of the reception staff seemed to have customer service skills, and if not for resort hoppa, I think we would have been on the way back to the airport. The receptionist just gave us our room card without a word. When we questioned our booking, we were met with blank stares. As we had booked all inclusive, we asked about the meals arrangement, and were told, "yes, it will be same".We then proceeded to our rooms.

The rooms were large and clean, if a bit dated. The hotel must have been beautiful at one time, but was now looking dated - especially the carpets and furniture, especially round the pool. Towels and sheets were changed everyday and the room was cleaned everyday, although - one the 1st and 2nd days of our stay, we were given a complementary fruit platter, and this was never cleared away, despite our requesting it. Also, we were 3 people, and we were only given 2 towels everyday. The beds and pillows were comfortable and there were extra pillows and blankets in the cupboard. The a/c worked and we had it on all night. Most of the rooms looked onto the pool, and had balconies. Leaving the balcony door open meant you had to hear all the noise from the pool area. The restaurants were also around the pool, so if you are a shy person, beware as there were plenty of spectators if you decided to use the pool. Also, the sunbeds nearest to the pool used to get grabbed pretty early in the morning.

We discovered that on the all inclusive plan, you could only use the buffet in one of the restaurants, and on one night only, you could have dinner in the morrocan themed restaurant. The buffet was extensive but very same-ish everyday - some things, were also repeated in different meals throughout the day. The salads didnt seem to change at all - The bread was terrible, and nothing was ever labelled, so, especially with the meat and deserts, you didn't know what it was. There wasnt much staff in the restaurant to ask, and those who were there didnt speak English. Despite this, everyday, there seemed to be one thing in the buffet that was good, and because of the choice, you wouldn't struggle to find something that you could eat and like. At lunchtime, there was always pizza and chips and in the evening, there was pasta. Vegetarians might struggle a bit if not for the pizza and pasta. The room service menu (not included in all inclusive) was very limited (and expensive). The morrocan themed restaurant was over-rated. The 3 course set menu consisted of soup, a tagine and fruit salad. I had to wait an hour for my fruit salad, which arrived when my companions had already finished. This was ludicrous as there were only around 6 tables in the retaurant, of which 3 were occupied.

Bottled water was plentiful and free both in the room and in the restaurant.

Reception staff were not very knowledgable about the local area or excursions - in fact one of the excursions we booked through the hotel was completely misrepresented. I would recommend booking excursions via Resort Hoppa instead.

There was no entertainment, and the kids club was closed during our stay, although this is advertised.

The hotel is close to the medina, and taxis or horse carriages are easily available.

On the whole, this hotel was definitely not 5 star as advertised. It would be a good 3 star if the staff were interested in the guests rather than socialising among themselves. If you are looking for a clean, no frills hotel with a pool and a half decent meals selection, then this would be the place. Do not go here expecting 5 star service or quality.

the hotel itself is a 5* it's a lovely place the reception area is stunning it has nice pools and bars the bedrooms have everything you need

rooms are cleaned daily towels are replaced and you get a bottle of water per person daily it has TV (which has a English movie channel) safe ( you just ask for it to be activated and that was free of charge ) phone and everything you need for your stay we spent a few days in the room as we got a bug while there and we was happy with it.

The pools are good but if your all inclusive you are only allowed in one pool area and cant use the pool bar we was very rudely turned away as we had our all inclusive bands on pools were sometimes cleaned a bit late 11.30 which us brits are up and raring to go by then
if you are if all inclusive entitled to a card for towels which you get at pool area but you have to ask for it at reception .
the bars were very clean but rarely served alcohol as they was continusly running out of things one day they didn't serve alcoholic and soft drinks till 1.30 another day we started to be served at 1 and by 3 they had run out again on a night they ran out of drinks and was only serving whisky
staff aren't very friendly and don't have a clue what your saying you are always waiting
about to be served and we noticed that men got served before women also they don't wash glasses they rinse them and then use them again
.there was no entertainment in this hotel except karaoke which meant you was the entertainment

food was a disaster your allocated a restaurant which is buffet style it was the same everyday and at every meal time it doesn't have labels so its a guessing game at what your putting on your plate we was very disappointed with the food and we ate salad for the first two days only then to get ill which apparently was because they wash salad in there water (which you cannot drink) and wasn't stored at a cold enough temperature we got a sickness and diarrhoea bug which we suffered with the whole holiday the only nice food we found was at buffet time which was 2.30 although every day was late earliest being 3 which was very annoying and the food served was pizza and burgers and chips which you watched him cook if you was taking away on the very last day we got our food and sat and waited to eat in and when it was brought to me it was raw I was then told when I complained some people like to eat there burgers like that I had to ask for knifes and forks as the table wasn't set and I had to go and ask for someone to get drinks to then be told I had to take my glasses back when I was finished .there was a few restaurants for the people who was paying and as the food was rubbish we went over happy to pay because we was starving and was turned away because of the all inclusive bands even when we offered to pay we was still turned away so we went to complain at reception and was told we was entitled to a night eating at the tajine restaurant (included with the all inclusive band) the choice there was soup or salad starter the soup was delicious the main was chicken or fish we choose chicken and was delivered a chicken leg so again was left very disappointed

the staff and service we was given through out our stay was very poor and we was left angry every day being all inclusive meant they had your money and that was that you no longer mattered it would have been a better holiday if we was room only

and on our last day waiting for taxi to airport a rep asked us how we enjoyed our stay we explained how we felt his response was if you had stayed in a hotel down the road you would think our service was fantastic and want to come back
that is the attitude we had experienced all holiday we was glad to be leaving and defiantly would not go back

stayed first 3 days of our trip at Mansour al Dhabi hotel had approx 12 guests so me and my friend left that after 3 nights and booked in at Royal Mirage now pickalbatros.. What can i say we stayed here for 6 nights and they were the best 6 nights spent in Marrakech...
Room was twin room with queen size beds very spacious and clean with separate loo and bathroom ... sit down balcony with sliding doors with pool view .... air conditioning worked fine.

The pool:
this was the highlight for us good music very helpful staff and great entertainment made loads of friends at the pool side , we was lucky that during our stay there was a big football match between morocco and algeria and both Moroccan and Algerian football fans kept the pool side party going with good dances toeards each other and all well behaved.

Hotel has 2 lobbies both kept clean and tidy great to relax ... i remember sitting in the lobby at 4 am with a group of tourist having a great time without any noise and even getting served with food and drinks at that hour ( The duty Manager Mr Hussein was great he made sure we got what we wanted).

The security guys are very friendly and do a great job making sure all guests are trouble free and enjoying the stay at this hotel.

very friendly and even when the get something wrong they make sure it’s sorted ASAP and also make sure that the guest is looked after ..

very helpful they will go out of their way to make sure the guest is happy.

very nice and chilled out place.

At Night:

No disturbance by guest or staff you have to remember we stayed here during and after a big football game but it was all peaceful and calm without any noise at night.

The General Manager:

I would like to thank Mr Ibrahim for doing a great job at this hotel (we must remember that this hotel has been taken over 6 months ago by new owners).
Hotel is getting a re vamp and all this without disturbing the guests :) .

our flight was due at 7:30 pm check out was 12 noon Mr Ibrahim made sure that we was comfortable and extended our room till 6 pm ( no hotel does that for you ).
check in was 3 pm we arrived at 12 noon and was given room and pool passes instantly.

I can go on and on and be here for ever but let me say every hotel has good points and bad points I'm not saying that Albatros Gardens don’t have bad points but the bad points didn’t affect my stay there they were minor, main thing is if there was a bad point it was dealt with professionally and fast.

yes i will go back again to this hotel with family or friends .

ps. free wifi most hotels charge last one we stayed at wanted 8 euros per hour or 25 euros for 24 hours
pickalbatros = FREE!!!!!!!
