“Wonderful hotel...... friendly staff, clean rooms and lovely food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2011

Recently stayed at the Albatross Club Hotel which is part of the Mirage Hotel Complex on an all inclusive basis. Very easy to get to on the No19 bus from the airport which costs 30 MAD return. Beautiful reception area and our room was very spacious with two double beds and balcony. Bathroom has very hot shower over bath and there are two soap dispensers. There is also a bidet and the towels are changed every day.
The food was plentiful and delicious and fresh bottled water was supplied with each meal if requested. The wine was good especially the red if you like a full-bodied taste. Plenty of cocktails to choose from and very nice coffee is available.
Two pools to choose from both of which are very clean and blue towels are available free of charge. The pool that is closest to the all-inclusive section of the hotel has very comfortable recliners but the sound system which is on all day can be very loud if you just want to relax or read. I could not listen to audiobooks on my ipod unless I had the volume right up. The animators are very entertaining, they will ask if you want to join in with various activities at the pool but do not keep on bothering you if you are not interested.
I can recommend the open top tour bus which stops outside the hotel every 30 minutes which costs 145MAD and lasts for 24 hours, but be prepared for the taxi drivers who wait outside as they can be a bit full on and will also may tell you that there isn't a bus for another two hours. This happened to us and a bus arrived within minutes!
We arrived in the evening and so we did not check out until 17.00hrs which meant we could have some time by the pool, have afternoon tea and also have a shower before we left.

We only paid £156 for 2 people bed and breakfast at this hotel which is why we booked it, but on reflection I think we may have paid more for something that would have made our holiday more special. The reception staff were so unhelpful almost verging on rude at times and it didn't really stand as a good first impression.

The room was large (the bed big enough to fit 3 people comfortably), but the bathroom was tired and a little brown looking which is never appealing. There were no doors to our wardrobe, our balcony struggled to close and the minibar wasn't stocked. None of these are big offences, but they do bring down the hotel a little. On the plus side, the room was cleaned every day.

Breakfast was good, the omellete and Moroccan pancake stations were excellent and the selection of meats, cheese and fruits were good although the hot food (sausages, potatoes etc) were never kept very hot.

There seemed to be an all inclusive option at the hotel and I would be interested the know the price of this as drinks in the hotel very over priced. However, I would urge you to eat town as there are some really atmospheric places to eat.

There are 2 pools, both are well laid out, but the weather wasn't brilliant when were there and the pools aren't heated at all. In the height of summer though I'm sure this is a blessing.

In conclusion, I would not return to this hotel despite the price tag. Next time I would choose to stay in a riad in town or at a more upmarket hotel possibly in the new town as I felt there wasn't any unique selling points to this hotel.

I got a very good deal for a four night all inclusive stay at this hotel. Be warned it is most def. not 5 star - prob 3 star but if you bear this in mind you will have a nice break. The staff are very friendly, the food good, the wine very good, poolside area attractive and well presented as were all of the public areas. Access to the medina was easy by - 20mins by foot or 5mins by taxi - pay 30 dirhams for the small taxis. When you come out of the hotel turn left and left again and you will hit the new Marrakech with loads of cafes and restaurant as well as the nearest bank. All in all you get what you pay for and I found this to be very good value. A tip for when you arrive at the airport - do not join the long queue to change currency before you go through customs - there are 2 exchanges on the other side both of which were virtually empty. This hotel is now known as the Albatros Gardens.

We stayed here for five nights whilst in Marrakech. It is also called the Albatross Gardens and is a PickAlbatross Hotel. The hotel is situated more on the outskirts of the city near the airport and is a good ten minute taxi drive to the centre of the Medina or to the new city. It is however within walking distance to the Medina if you don't mind a 30+ minute walk in the heat and traffic fumes. The hotel accommodation is of a good quality, two nice pools and the rooms are large and nicely furnished and it has impressive lobby areas. Breakfast is very good, nice large range of typical continental and hot buffet, good freshly made omelette station. Meals at other times were of poor quality and expensive (for what they were) and we would definitely not recommend going to their dedicated Moroccon restaurant, you are better eating out for your main meals. Staff service at meal times is highly lacking for a reputed five star hotel and is far better catered for French speaking individuals than English. We found the hotel too far out from all the action and with the poor service and poor main meals we would recommend you find somewhere a little nearer the Medina. The hotel is not far from the Menara Gardens if you wanted to walk there, and there are some nicer restaurants within walking distance on the Hussain VI. Beware taxi drivers try to fleece you for the trip to and from the airport, they will try and get you to pay between 150 -200 dirham even though it is nearby.

After an initial hiccup which we sorted outselves as the hotel were not interested, we took in the surroundings. Our initial impressions of the ground floor of the hotel we would describe as lavish, clean and cool inside and tidy, clean and plenty of space outside around the large pool area. Building wise, from this point onwards the hotel dropped in our expectations from a 5 to 3 star hotel. The floor we were on was "tired", a missing upstairs window in the hall, damaged walls, areas where wires had been removed from the plastered walls and mess left lying around, the list could go on. Yes they were renovating but it appeared that this was not happening anywhere in the vacinity, or at least started but not finished. The bedroom was airy, clean, tidy with what you would expect from a 3 or 4 star hotel only. Be prepared to be woken by the maids from 7.30am, so remember to put your "do not disturb" out! Even then the racket they made outside your door was unbelievable.

You could either eat in a couple of locations at the hotel or obviously outside. The Tagine Restaurant on site was wonderful and worth a visit. The Hotel restaurant had a variety of food, fresh, either buffet or cooked, but again probably a 3 or 4 star quality.

The service was excellent but remember you are in Morocco, so nothing is done in a hurry. Most of the staff were friendly and very helpful and there was always someone who was there to assist.

We used various means of transport from walking, hiring the taxi, to the tourist open top bus which was excellent and certainly worth it. There were no concerns on walking into the old part of Marrakech (medina) and everything had returned to normal after the recent restaurant bombing.

Marrakech is old and new, traditional and modern and one never to forget especially the sellers in the Souks and the Berbers in the Atlas mountains.

We had a good deal with this hotel and although as a 5 star hotel, it was a little disappointing, we paid the equivelent of a 3 star and it met all our needs. It certainly did not put a blemish on our holiday, which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Room Tip: A room fronting the main pool its quieter!

Had read the reviews and was a little worried as so split. We got bumped by Thomnson the week before from a Riu hotel, they couldn't help so we bookd a cheapy from Teletex. So based on price and location we were not expetcting a real five star (same a most of the med).

Well we were really pleased. I loved the food, quite traditional and simple but good quality.

Staff were helpful, if your up for a laugh, Ie the odd Green Pina Colada - seems to be alittle improvisation.

The gym was out of order - but felt very safe, so went out running.

We walked every day to the Medina.

This hotel is being renevated, but whilsy it did not affect our holiday, I reckon it will be a great hotel once finished.

Room Tip: Be nice to the staff and relax
