I stayed for 3 nights in April 07. I see from this site there have been a mix of reviews and I can understand why that is. I personally thought the location was excellent and offers easy access to all parts of the city whilst being out of the noise and dust of the medina. The pool and its area were excellent and it was lovely to come and lay on a lounger after a day of sightseeing. The breakfasts were also excellent.
You have to be careful what room you are given, of the ones our party experienced one suffered from noisy neighbours through those adjoining room doors which seemed to have no soundproofing at all and another from the hot piiping that seemed to run under the floor and turn the room into a sauna. I had the noisy room but it was changed with no fuss immedaitaly we said something. Its such a shame that hotels often seem to give you their worst rooms at first and then hope that you don't complain. That is why i wouldn't rate the hotel any higher.
There are so many new hotels being built around Marrakech that the Sofitel will have to up it's game to keep clientel.
