“Lovely hotel in ideal place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

We stayed here for 4 nights in Sept 2013, we had a flight and hotel deal through dialafight.
The hotel is very grand and ideally situated about 15 mins drive from the airport and just outside the medina wall.
We had lunch a couple of times at the Oasis pool bar restaurant and that was very good, pool bar drinks are not cheap! We also had dinner one evening in the L'Orangerie where the service and food was very authentic and good! Not too pricey for a 5 star hotel.
The breakfast was served in Le Jardin restaurant, buffet with just about everything you could want, although if you want pork bacon you collect it raw from another counter then get the 'Egg Chef" to cook it. The staff need more training, lots of them at breakfast, standing around doing nothing when there were tables that needed clearing and relaying.
We had trouble trying to get the mini-bar restocked which proved very frustrating.
They leave all the lounger cushions out to get wet if it rains, which it did most evenings, sometimes torrentially, so laying on them they felt damp, not the most comfortable feeling!!
The hotel organised a walking guide into the souks for about £25 which was very good.

Room Tip: We had west facing room at the end of the hotel overlooking a duck pond, 286, it could do with smart...

The Sofitel Marrakech Lounge and Spa is, with the exception of the Four Seasons, the best resort in Marrakech.

Although centrally located everything you must to in the great city of Marrakech, is not a 'city hotel' or a 'business hotel' - although suitable for businesses and conferences as I witnessed a pan-African conference being held there.

Anyway, the hotel is a superb resort with everything you need to relax after a long day or night wandering around Marrakech.

I stayed in a ground-floor room in June 2013 with my partner for one week to relax and see the sights of Marrakech.

Check-in was smooth, calm and professional. It was unfortunate no water or mint tea was offered. Just be sure to go to the reception for the Lounge and Spa part of the hotel and not the Imperial if you're staying in the Lounge and Spa side.

Basically, there are 2 sides to the hotel. The Imperial Palais side - from all accounts - a little bit more expensive and more authentic, arabesque. The Lounge and Spa side is more modern and contemporary. Technically 2 separate institutes, apart from the 2 separate receptions - they share the same staff, restaurants, pools etc. Anyway, this review is for the Lounge and Spa side.

Back to the reception staff- we fell upon a time where staff were not busy. If there is a queue, the reception staff start to stress and service levels drop.

The Sofitel is equipped with everything you need to relax and unwind and possesses 2 superb pools - the best in Marrakech apart from the Four Seasons, as I've previously mentioned. Poolside service is friendly and efficient.

The rooms are in better shape than you'd find in other Marrakech hotels. The Notes de Lanvin products are lovely. If you're lucky enough to stay in a suite - which I was shown - you'll be bathing in luxury Hermès products. The suites are spacious with a bigger bathroom and a lounge area with 2 terraces.

Technology wise, the WIFI works very well and there is a small business centre with 2 modern, touch-screen computer and printers. There is also an ATM.

I cannot award 5 stars as I will now list the following criticisms-

- The atrium and hall ways are not air conditioned.
- Room service food plates and drinking glasses are just left in hallways, often overnight as I witnessed, not very pleasant or of the standard of a Sofitel hotel.
- Breakfast service is so slow and uncaring. You must grab their attention.
- The ladies on reception hesitate in answering questions and often need the approval of their male superiors at the hotel. I had to ask them to ask their manager. A 'no' answer was often changed to 'yes' after consulting their male superiors.

There are flaws in this hotel, but you'd struggle to find anywhere better, unless you can afford the Four Seasons!

I recommend this hotel and I ensure you'd have a great time.

We stayed in a riad for 3 nights and then stayed in the sofitel to experience both the riad and a larger hotel.

This hotel is beautiful , the grounds are amazing , the pool and hotel grounds. I found check in easy and the staff friendly.

The room was very large with a lovely balcony over looking the pool.

The breakfast was extremely good an excellant choice it is probably one of the best hotel breakfasts I have ever had. Really good!!

The only negative remark I have about this hotel is the price of everything drinks , food is extremely expensive. Cocktails are £12,00 + and snacks by the pool were very expensive. I understand that a 5 star hotel will charge 5 star prices but prices were very high, which was a shame as we would have liked to have food in the hotel a night or two.

Overall a lovely hotel in a very nice part of the city just 15 mins from the madness of the square

The staff couldn't have been more helpful, the room was fine and beds very comfortable. WiFi was free and worked well in the rooms.
The location in Hivernage area is close to the Medina (10 minutes walk)
The restaurants were very expensive but the food good.
Eat out as there are dozens of restaurants to choose from within 2 miles, at much better prices.

Try to get breakfast included in the room charge as its pricey (£25) but a large range of buffet food.
The pool area is well equipped and drinks services well organised.

Beautiful place to stay and very well located.
Rooms are not great but are good enough for a 2 night stay.
Problem is the service. I will not go into details but overall service is Average. Do not expect quick response to your requests or fast service as you order. If you like a beautiful stay and have time to wait....this is you place.

I really do not like writing bad reviews, especially as many of the staff seemed to be ok people. But it really is difficult to express just how bad the service was during my stay. The hotel itself is beautiful with great pools. The room was good and well maintained. But all was overshadowed by the constant battle to get anything like part way reasonable service. You have to practically climb over the front desk to even get them to acknowledge your existence let alone do anything, we were asked to leave the restaurant and hurry up with our dinner (at 10.30) because they had to set up for breakfast, we learnt leave an extra 15 mins when asking for drinks and so on and so on. Service here makes the average Parisen hotel look friendly. Sorry to say this but things need a big, big improvement.
